I'm actually pretty pumped about seeing Vandy with a year of conditioning under his belt. He's an absolute force on defense and surprisingly athletic for a 7-footer. If he can get any sort of offensive go-to move (or simply pass out of the post without turning it over) he's going to help. Also think De Thaey is going to just fine and a terror on the boards. Just needs to get some confidence out there.
2/29/2012 11:15:24 PM
If TDT seems more than mop up time in the future, then we have failed somewhere. Guy is a practice player, only.
2/29/2012 11:17:18 PM
Not so sure about that. He's got some athleticism and a lot of toughness ... and he's supposedly a decent shot. I'm not saying he should start, but he's going to be a contributor. We'll need some big bodies to crash the boards and play tough defense. He can certainly do that.

And julius hodge is the next jordan, too. Is that how this random comparison game works? Already grasping at straws for excuses in case Gottfried doesn't get a big
3/1/2012 2:09:50 AM
^ Says this all while declaring a player that hasn't finished his freshman year as a failure. Fuck off and give Gott and the staff a chance to develop TDT.
3/1/2012 7:17:28 AM
Yes and maybe staats battle is the next Scott wood. Cmon be serious. And vandy is a terrible rebounder its his biggest weakness
3/1/2012 7:36:27 AM
3/1/2012 8:07:42 AM
itt people are forgetting that freshman who actually contribute are way mor rare than we've been made accustom to over the past few years.Gott wouldn't throw a scholy at some kid who is a good practice player. That's a waste of a perfectly good roster spot. He can still develop.
3/1/2012 8:12:21 AM
3/1/2012 8:27:19 AM
Look saying he "could" develop is one thing. But acting like we aren't going to be a flawed team when Leslie, Howell, and Painter bounce is just crazy talk unless we land some serious studs in the 2013 class.Zobo is a great rebounder, but I don't think he's going to start averaging 10 rebs/game or anything.
3/1/2012 9:43:58 AM
shut up
3/1/2012 9:49:49 AM
^^ I don't see where I said we'd be fine if we don't recruit some big men.All I did was respond to the statement that TDT will never develop past a practice player on full scholarship.

He's got a good point. If you remove All Americans from teams they aren't the same teams. Also, having good players is better than just having players.I didn't see him address whether having a good coach was more important than just having a coach though

saw this article about Amile....not feeling to great about our chances...he's going to duke for 3rd time since January and this time of course it's the unc gamehttp://buzztap.com/link.jsp?id=7698192&cid=231&source=feed&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

^Another reason why winning more games was important
3/2/2012 9:00:43 AM
Nobody has felt good about Amile for at least 2 months. It's just not happening.
3/2/2012 9:13:42 AM
^^it's pretty idiotic to think that a guy was sitting there thinking "well, gee i guess I'll just go with the team that wins more this season!"
3/2/2012 9:20:51 AM
3/2/2012 9:21:01 AM
3/2/2012 9:21:10 AM
^^^ I can't tell what's sarcasm and what isn't. It's pretty reasonable for some players to want to win. Some guys just care about playing time. Some guys also want to win. I have to respect a guy if he cares about winning more than he cares about himself.Besides, Duke also has the most players in the NBA.Seeing as how Duke has so many recruiting advantages over us, winning a lot was really the only way for us to close that gap.
3/2/2012 9:31:11 AM
my point is that nothing within reason (IOW winning games we lost that we should have won) would have overcome any recruiting advantages Duke has over us.
3/2/2012 9:33:47 AM
^^^ Oh lawd...

Julius Randle update:
3/2/2012 9:50:58 AM
What a tease
3/2/2012 10:00:43 AM
3/2/2012 10:06:09 AM
I feel like winning is more likely to affect any slight chance we have with Randle than it would have with Amile. If Randle is still showing interest come next season and our incoming class appears to be getting something special going here maybe that would help Randle consider us over some of the other schools. There is always that feeling that kids want to be a hero. If he gets the feeling that he could join our program with those guys and do something special here the guys have to know with our passionate fan base they would become legends. If you goto a school like Duke, Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, etc. even if you win a national championship you are gonna be just another guy in a long list of awesome players who did the same thing. For an 18 year old kid sometimes that can be a selling point.
3/2/2012 10:12:09 AM
Bottom line, there are a million things that go into why a recruit chooses one school over another. Arguing over what the deciding factor is just ridiculous because there is no way you can know what the kid is thinking. Every kid puts more value on something different and there are also the things that aren't surface level like relationships with coaches and other players, proximity to family and whether or not that even matters to the kid, how he fits into a system and whether or not he is sold on his potential role. Some kids are infatuated and star struck by the big name schools and some aren't. If success of a program and winning were all that mattered then lower tier schools would never land big recruits over higher tier programs.

3/2/2012 10:29:26 AM
Randle may well be a tease, but its awesome to have your name on his list.

3/2/2012 11:14:05 AM
According to every unc fan the last time we beat them for a recruit was David Thompson. Would be great to land one for once where we can definitively that we beat them for a recruit
3/2/2012 1:46:53 PM
if they say we did not beat them for TJ Warren, they are either straight up lying or dont know what they are talking about.
3/2/2012 1:50:03 PM
According to every UNC fan, if we beat them 70 straight times in basketball, they'll still own us because they'll have one more win in the all time seriesfuck what UNC fans say
