Not sure why actually looking at who teams play during the bowl season instead of just the conference record is making excuses. The draw of the SEC and strength of the conference means that they are constantly playing up in their bowl selection. The fact the conference does so well is remarkable considering. There were no UCFs, or Luisiana Tech's out there for the SEC. If anything it looked like the SEC vs. Rest of Football challenge with a bowl slate that included Texas, tOSU, Notre Dame, Louisville, Miami, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, TCU... not like they went 0-10. 5-5 vs. those programs, with 2 OT games doesn't erase 10 years of clear dominance.

But in this case the best team in the country was probably left out and lets not say "if they won all of theor games" whend they had the same record as 3 of the teams in. Lets jold everyone to the aame standards.
1/2/2015 1:11:57 PM
There is definitely a bias to SEC teams, but the exact same thing happens in basketball. You get UNC or Duke ranked between #18-#25 and they can lose at least two games to unranked opponents and still stay ranked where if we lost one game we would be out. This is why I wish there was a better way to decide rankings besides: Strength of Schedule + Record = Ranking, because that isn't how it actually works out when rankings are voted on. Obviously that isn't just the ACC, just using us as an example.

1/2/2015 3:24:27 PM
Both games are up on torrents, we should have some HQ highlights of the insane hits that went on yesterday.
1/2/2015 3:27:37 PM
End the game on a 29-3 run in the 4th. That's almost Bills-Oilers.

I just cant see how getting stomped by vt out of conference is better than losing to a top 10 team in your conference. We kinda know how good tcu is. They are the only top team that is also great on d. They are the most complete team and confirmed that the other day.
1/2/2015 5:07:32 PM
When teams are tied by their record, direct competition is the decider. That's the standard. TCU didn't merely lose to a good team from their conference, they lost to Baylor. You can believe TCU is better all you want, but what they earned is Baylor's sloppy seconds.

i like ecu's white helmets. haven't watched them much this year to remember if those are what they normally wear or not. but i couldn't care less who won this game, really.
1/3/2015 12:32:28 PM
^^Yes! I'd really like to see an ECU win here. And, thanks to the Houston comeback, I gotta watch this thing 'til the end, too.Y'all let me know if there are any other good games on right now.

I dont understand the ecu teasing going on. They lost b it it was a January bowl against an sec team.
1/3/2015 4:42:00 PM
date of the bowl is fairly irrelevant now unless it's one of the "new years six"...dates don't really indicate which bowls are better for the most part

8-5 with wins over mighty UNC and VT. Hell of a season for Carden and those seniors. Couldn't be happier for them.
1/4/2015 3:40:16 PM
This GoDaddy Bowl sure deserves to sit in between the most important games of the post season! Those Toledo Rockets from the mighty MAC deserve national attention!
1/4/2015 10:46:17 PM
Defensive player for Arkansas State just got ejected for "threatening an official"
1/4/2015 11:52:51 PM
Must not have been defending too well since the other team had already put 50+ points on the board.
1/5/2015 12:20:14 AM
So after watching the bowl games and what not here is what the top 4 should have looked like in my opinion:1. Oregon2. TCU3. Ohio State4. Alabama
1/5/2015 8:30:57 AM
meh, they got it right. Theres almost always going to be a team or two that gets left out that has a legit argument for being in over another team. FSU went undefeated and if they could have just held on to the damn ball, they would have been in that game with Oregon. Any team in the Top 10 blows FSU out that game with them fumbling 4 times in the 2nd half.
1/5/2015 8:36:37 AM
If the committee left FSU out of the top 4, all credibility would have been lost. It's easy to say that FSU didn't belong, but if OSU loses by 20+ to Oregon, will OSU not have belonged too? Does Alabama losing to a team's 3rd string QB mean they shouldn't have been in it too? I'm sure FSU would have loved to play against Oregon's 3rd string QB.FSU was slugging it out until halftime and then had one bad quarter and lost the game to the #2 team in the country(at the time) with a Heisman winning QB. They absolutely got it right regardless of final scores. To leave the defending champion out after going undefeated and beating some ranked teams...that would have been ridiculous.
1/5/2015 8:52:58 AM
i agree with ^ and ^^it's easy to say tcu should've gotten in, especially after their drubbing of ole miss. but, imo, you can't really make an argument for who didn't deserve it. they couldn't leave fsu...no way
1/5/2015 8:59:25 AM
1/5/2015 10:25:36 AM
The thing is tcu should have been in before they beat the shit out of ole miss. Hell, evem the comittee thought they were #3 before they squeezedbby isu 55-3. That was wrong. And no, it should never happen that arguably the best team innthe country is left out. If you had 6 teams, 7 might deserve it over 6 but most likely not over 1. Its all about preseason rankings, talent, and school perception.
1/5/2015 10:39:59 AM
1/5/2015 12:02:38 PM
My comments were more based on now that we got to watch everyone play a top tier team this is how I would rank them sorta thing.I think leaving FSU out would have been a bad decision even though I still never believed they were a top 4 team. I think the only reason TCU got left out was because they lost to Baylor. Of the three teams, that was easily the best loss, but in the end they couldnt justify putting them in over Baylor who was only in the conversation because they beat TCU so they took the easy way out and gave us OSU, which looks fine now.
1/5/2015 2:18:46 PM
FSU was a top 4 team. They moved the ball up and down the field on Oregon. Turn the ball over 4 times in one half by basically dropping the ball and you're not going to beat anyone.
1/5/2015 2:32:23 PM
This system is still a complete head scratcher. Why would you make a playoff without a way in. Makes no sense at all. Playoffs should be determined on the field. With more than 4 power conferences a 4 team playoff makes no sense. Its like these people in charge have no idea of how sports work.Take 1 sports management class please. Or just look ay any other playoff in the entire world.
1/5/2015 2:41:39 PM
I wont be happy until the playoff goes to 8 teams:5 Conference Winners2-3 At large bids (this is where having a committee is fine by me)1 spot guaranteed for the non power 5 schools based on certain criteria otherwise just 3 at large.Allow a committee to seed them if they want as well I have no problem with that.
1/5/2015 3:53:36 PM
I wonder how they would set it up? First round would be NYE/day, pushing the semifinals & final to the next two weeks?
1/5/2015 4:09:08 PM
maybe keep the semis and championship where they are (New Years and a couple weeks after) and have the quarters right around Christmas. The only thing that would be tough would be the fans trying to coordinate going to that many sites in successive weeks. But thats for the fans to worry about, the sponsors/NCAA would just rake in the viewers
1/5/2015 4:24:56 PM
I was thinking since conf championship week was the 6th, two weeks later would be the 20th and leave the others where they are, but I don't know if school is out? You wouldn't want to have to travel there like Thursday or Friday for a bowl when you usually get a week.. Unless the first round is at a campus, but then you rob 4 teams of a bowl experience.. So I guess just push everything back another week, final 2 wouldn't play until late January..
