I found Exactly what I wanted at wally world- one that said they didn't have what I wanted- go figure. But in all fairness I was talking to someone in sporting goods and the safes, for somereason, are located in the "stationary" section

it will fit under the seat, and it is big enough to hold everything i could need to put in there (ie, my pistols, a laptop, digi cameras, phones, wallets (stuff I could throw in there at a tailgate if i didn't want to risk losing at a game), etc...) and it can be bolted down (which should make it and it's contents covered by my insurance)the only thing I don't like about it is that there is no handle on the front of it (but that can easily be changed)now here is my next questions- some states say that you have to travel with your gun in your glove box, but would this thing count? Is anyone going to the gun show at the fairgrounds this weekend? Ive only been to dixie shows at the fairgrounds, never a showmasters show. Is it worth my time to go?
12/17/2008 6:37:40 PM
haven't heard about this one... any links?

I'm gonna go, mostly for shits and giggles.
12/17/2008 11:47:50 PM
That box would be fine for NC.
12/17/2008 11:49:33 PM
^^^sure, why not... i gotta burn up these permits before my CCP comes through anyway, so no sense in not looking^same for SC? on opencarry.org, they say you have to keep it in the gloveboxalso, another question- a purchase permit i got here in wake county- could i use that in GA? or is it only good here in NC... the reason i ask is because I'm going to be on-base at Warner Robbins AFB and I know that military base pawn shops are sometimes gold mines for finding some good pistols[Edited on December 18, 2008 at 11:02 AM. Handguns have to be purchased from a dealer in the buyer's state, IIRC. I know rifles are g2g anywhere from an FFL.
12/18/2008 1:29:42 PM
well damn- maybe if i found a stellar deal I could have them ship it up here to a shop
12/18/2008 1:44:23 PM
How many of you guys open carry? When/where? Had any problems, any places that said to leave, etc?I'm comfortable enough to open carry now, but I'm still not sure of how people will react (employees of stores, restaurants, etc)What about conceal carry? Are you carrying everywhere it's legal? (I'm hopefully getting mine in January) [Edited on December 20, 2008 at 3:49 PM. Reason : any advice on either]
12/20/2008 3:49:10 PM
I'm interested in WHY people open carry. I simply see no benefits to it.
12/20/2008 6:05:51 PM
I always carry concealed and only in places that is allowed. I really dont see the need to open carry, in most situations I would assume that it would tend to make most people uncomfortable. But to be honest I have never been interested enough to spend any time researching it. You might ask MaximaDrvr I provided this like a few pages ago.http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum41/18955.html On a side note I have a factory Sig front and rear sight changer for a few days if anyone needs sights installed or adjusted for free.
12/20/2008 6:09:40 PM
Well I realize that concealed carry is probably preferred, but for those of us without a permit that would like to carry..
12/20/2008 6:24:19 PM
Some Reasons Why People Open Carry:1. "A right overexercised is a right lost"2. Don't have (or want) a Concealed Carry Permit and want to carry a Firearm3. More comfortable4. Some people like to educate others about rights, and openly carry a firearm around is one way to do that. I'm sure there are others. I don't typically open carry.
12/20/2008 7:11:44 PM
If you're going to open carry, simply be aware of this - businesses can kick you out for open carrying a firearm. It is completely legal and within the management/owner's discretion. It won't happen every day, but you should be prepared to at least explain yourself and defend your right to carry. It might not keep you from getting asked to leave, but it shows responsibility and education on your part.If you are going to do it, get a good retention holster. There would be nothing worse than getting disarmed by someone and hiving your own weapon used against you.
12/21/2008 10:01:34 AM
Yeah, I see no advantages to it.To draw a somewhat stretched comparison, open carry is something like a gay rights parade in San Fransisco. Sure it can be entertaining to some to see men in pink leather catsuits fondling each other in public, and sure it makes the populace aware that people like that exist, but the far more effective means of promoting tolerance of homosexuality is to go about your life as a "normal" responsible person and let yourself define your choice instead of your choice defining yourself.I carry religiously and no-one who doesn't know me would be able to tell for a second that I do. However I have friends with very liberal, very politically active families who have somewhat seen the other side of this issue because I didn't show up at their house looking like an ad for 5.11 tactical and over time they began to see where I was coming from, partly because I didn't throw it in their face.]
12/21/2008 10:14:23 AM
^ Also, I'm well aware that homosexuality is not a "choice". The point was more in how you chose to live your life.
12/21/2008 10:56:56 AM
^^open carry doesnt mean you have to look like a 5.11 tacticool admost people don't even notice the gun when open carrying, the general public usually isnt even observant enough to notice
12/21/2008 11:08:14 AM
sheesh. not the direction I was exactly looking for. I realize that it's probably best to conceal carry, which I plan on doing; however, I don't have my permit yet, but I still like to carry sometimes, thus I have to open carry.I know you can be asked to leave places. I was hoping someone had some advice on it/places to avoid/stories/etc.

I open carry out in the boonies but don't want to do it in the city.
12/21/2008 2:44:50 PM
I don't open carry any more but I used to quite often a few years ago before I got my CCP. I lived in Raleigh then and I never had any problems anywhere. Nobody notices. If they do, they assume you're a cop (assuming you don't look like a thug). It will sometimes prompt questions from those that do notice. Usually it's something about Law Enforcement first (i.e. are you a cop?). After that, it often went in the direction of rights & legalities and that was pretty universally positive with the reactions ranging from mild interest & awareness to excitement that they could carry legally (usually with gas station attendants and the like). The ONLY negative experience that I can think of is when I was with a buddy that carried in a POS Fobus paddle holster and didn't pay attention to how he looked when he went out. We had gone to Wal-Mart on 70 late one night. I came out of the bathroom to see him standing near the exit with a bunch of female employees sitting near him talking to him. One of the fucking idiots (1/2 jokingly) said "Oh my God, he's gonna shoot us all". That did get some attention and we promptly asked her to shut the fuck up and pointed out that that was a good way to scare people and make a scene. He then pointed out that if he wanted to kill her he'd do it when he first came in the store and hadn't noticed him yet & proceeded to walk out. The same guy had a few more incidents when he was carrying. He was asked to leave another Wal-mart and nearly got arrested because he wasn't calm & said things that he shouldn't have.Basically, if you're paying attention and act normal then you shouldn't have any problems. If you dress like a bum or thug, act nervous or like a bad ass, somebody is going to say/do something and you'll have problems. Like I said before, I had nothing but good experiences and wouldn't hesitate to OC still if I didn't have my CCP. I even made friends with employees & shop owners at stores that I went to because they "felt safer" when I was around.

now here is a legality question...i know it is super illegal to have a gun on campus (one of the worse carry laws to break)but what if I park my car on campus, with an unloaded pistol locked in a safe?is this illegal? it isn't on my person, but it is still in my possession... i feel like it is a no-no, but I was wondering if anyone on here knew for sure

I know somebody who got charges and lost guns for UNLOADED over under sporting clay's guns, in locked cases, in a locked card, parked in a parking lot NEXT TO campus, not on campus.

^ HOW DID THEY GET FOUND OUT??? SEEMS LIKE SOME SHADY SHIT HAD TO HAVE BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE POLICE TO EVER EVEN KNOW ABOUT IT.

^^^ person went and shot at a sporting clays event, had 4 guns, cased in 2 locked hard cases in the back of a locked SUV. He parked off campus near UT, as the other folks who had gone shooting with him lived in UT at the time. He walked in, walked out to find car had been opened and relocked, a note left in the back stated to contact RPD, he contacted them and was told to come downtown to pick up his firearms that they had sized form the vehicle. He was then arrested and charged.Apparently somebody who lives in ut saw the gun cases, had a liberal freak out attack, and called 911 and stated that they had seen ' a car with guns piled in the back parked on campus'. The result was 6 months to a year of court dates and battles to avoid having around 7K worth of guns destroyed. Throw in criminal charges against a kid, and you have a hell of a crappy time.

awesome. I looked around that site for a good explanation/posting of NC CC/OC laws, judicial reviews, judicial rulinings, etc but didn't see anything. Is there a thread on there like that? I know I can read the NCGA website, but that's a real pain in the butt. I also saw that a lot of this information gets posted in threads on there, but there seems to be a lot of misinformation and a lot of "I was told" information, which I don't like basing facts on. If you have specific questions, you can send a message to DreQo on there. He is titled a "state researcher" and has almost all cases and specific law bookmarked for posting. It just takes a lot of reading on that site to find the info you are looking for. Good siting happens occasionally in other sections besides the NC sub forum as well.Pretty much OC is legal in MORE places than CC. Peoples beliefs vary on following posted signs in retail establishments when CC though.[Edited on December 30, 2008 at 11:14 PM. Reason : .]

PDHS- they used to allow them, but they said they had problems with people being wild with them (someone even broke one of the target holders/returners using one)the guy didn't get mad or anything when we came in and saw us using it, but he told us the new rules (we didn't know at the time). I have a feeling that the more I go in there, the more comfortable they will be with allowing me to shoot from the hip with the stock folded in

Other than Republican18, I doubt anyone wears a holster on a separate duty belt. For everyone else, how do you like to wear your holster and what type is it?I've got a Bianchi 7001 AccuMold holster that I carry my 6" GP-100 when I carry it. I'm considering upgrading to a leather model, but I'm split between the 111 and 5BHL. The 111 protects the trigger, while the 5 is open and may have an easier draw. The 111 can also be carried cross draw. As a general rule, I only carry on my family's property when I go out shooting; I haven't open carried anywhere.

M9 Beretta in a shoulder holster (or in a pocket in my survival vest when I'm flying)I wouldn't want walk around town in a shoulder holster, though, unless maybe with a small pistol under a coat.
