^^^ I had assumed his numbers/rankings were a lot higher than that.
11/18/2009 11:35:54 AM
Don't worry, he's not going to displace Peyton anytime soon
11/18/2009 11:37:46 AM
Rivers should have made it the past two seasons. How the fuck did Jay Cutler and Chad Pennington make it over Rivers last year (or was it two years ago)?.
11/18/2009 11:39:59 AM
^ Brett Favre made it over Rivers last year with the Jets as well
11/18/2009 11:41:47 AM
Rivers got jobbed last year. I think it's because he doesn't get a lot of the fan votes.Huge game coming up at Denver this week for top spot in the AFC west.[Edited on November 18, 2009 at 11:45 AM. Reason : .]
11/18/2009 11:44:35 AM
Outside of Raleigh, San Diego and Decatur, Rivers is almost universally seen as a huge assholeHe'll never get any votes from the rest of the public if there's someone else comparable statisciallyHe'll have to be far and away in the top 3 to get voted in[Edited on November 18, 2009 at 12:15 PM. Reason : x]
11/18/2009 12:15:19 PM
He's also seen as a FIERY COMPETITOR who is down to play playoff games with torn knee ligaments, unlike his pussy ass running back teammate
11/18/2009 12:17:15 PM
^^ If I say that I am "trolling", even though its completely true[Edited on November 18, 2009 at 12:28 PM. Reason : d]

My buddy had some friends up for the Clemson game this past weekend and at the tailgate they kept bringing up that Rivers is a huge asshole. Their rationale is that he talks shit and that is why they don't like him. I knew immediately that not one of those fucks ever stepped on a football field. Somehow, ESPN painted a picture of Rivers being the ONLY player in the league that ever talks trash and it pisses me off!
11/18/2009 1:02:49 PM
^^poor you
11/18/2009 1:03:38 PM
^^maybe it's just me, but if you cry over an athlete talking shit then maybe sports just isn't for you
11/18/2009 3:41:01 PM
i think its just you
11/18/2009 3:50:37 PM
I'm pretty sure he's making fun of your friends and not you Ribs
11/18/2009 4:00:30 PM
I must have misread what he was sayin then
11/18/2009 4:06:40 PM
you did
11/18/2009 5:37:16 PM
I've got to agree that PRiv is seen as an asshole everywhere else. His emotions on the field get to a lot of the other fanbases. Whatever, PRIV!
11/19/2009 8:48:14 AM
that the perception exists is definitely true. A lot of state fans won't even admit that the perception exists.Whether it's deserved or not is the only question, and I think it was definitely blown the fuck out of proportion. I mean, the guy drives a fucking minivan for fucks sake. He's so squeaky clean it's actually a little bit sickening.
11/19/2009 8:52:35 AM
the problem for Rivers (whether deservedly or not) is that he is seen as the only QUARTERBACK that talks junk.brady had that little spat with whomever it was before the pats vs. giants superbowl and peyton lashes out at his own kicker, but you don't see them talk junk to the other teams.Usually linebackers, safeties, RBs, and WRs are going to be the ones that talk junk as they take punishment on every play (hit a lot). That is the unfortunate situation for Rivers. I'm sure it has happened, but you don't regularly see QBs talking junk on the field.
11/19/2009 9:05:49 AM
much like jim mcmahon, rivers is not here to cause no trouble.he's just here to do the super bowl until LT gets a hangnail shuffle.
11/19/2009 9:13:40 AM
people think he's a douche because he was calling jay cutler a baby while they were thrashing the broncos on christmas night 2 seasons ago.i think he was ahead of his time.
11/19/2009 5:28:27 PM
I personally don't give a fuck about the perception of Rivers. I fucking love to see him in the face of defensive linemen.
11/19/2009 6:44:09 PM
I wonder if State fans are blowing this out of proportion too. While plenty of people I know would say Rivers talks too much shit, part of the reason they say that is just getting an opportunity to talk a little shit about State.I'd be willing to bet that many peoples' opinion of Rivers, outside of State fans, State haters, and of course Broncos fans, is basically "one of the 3 great QBs to come out in 2004; the one who hasn't won a Super Bowl yet"]
11/19/2009 6:55:17 PM
^agreed minus that one incident where he was talking junk to the fans late in that one game (can't think of who they were playing)that was the one where all the media and everyone got all excited and a bunch of them criticized him. I think he even apologized (at least half heartedly)i love Rivers and think he is great and don't see anything wrong really with him goofing off some, but I think that one incident got people a little upset
11/19/2009 7:13:22 PM
I think that was a playoff game but I'm not totally sure. He was walking with the trainer to the locker room and jawing with fans on the way. That was back when he was trying to hide that knee injury. Who knows what those folks were saying to him though. Fans will yell the most hateful shit ever to a player and the second they say something back, the fan is automatically the victim in the situation.
11/19/2009 7:18:34 PM
Pretty sure that was a Colts playoff game two years ago.
11/19/2009 7:21:07 PM
I liked Troy Aikman's quote:
11/19/2009 8:47:26 PM
^the deep ball is the thing i notice most. that dude puts it on the money 9.9/10 times. he just doesn't heave it like a lot of qb's (cutler for instance)he throws it down field but still throws it with some touch. his deep ball is very impressive.
11/19/2009 8:49:02 PM
i remember that most people were talking shit about his deep ball before he started to play. those gigantic receivers help him out a lot
11/19/2009 9:02:00 PM
^they certainly don't hurt
11/19/2009 9:21:10 PM
Well he doesn't really have a huge arm like Cutler, but his deep ball is good because he has good accuracy all the way out to his maximum range.
11/19/2009 9:36:07 PM
Mel Kiper's knock on Rivers was arm strength
11/19/2009 9:47:08 PM
^^yeahwhat i was saying was that Cutler doesn't look like he is trying to throw with any accuracy down the field at all. just heaving it up there. Rivers, on the other hand, throws beautiful balls down the field even if he can't throw it 75 yards in the air.
11/19/2009 9:50:24 PM
^^ Well, armstrength and mobility are Rivers' 2 main drawbacks. If he had a cannon and could escape pressure, he would be unstoppable. One of the reasons Rivers' deep ball is so good is that he puts air under it, allowing the receiver to adjust to it. It's also why he is much better at the deep post than the deep outs. An out route requires much more armstrength. He throws that deep post to V Jackson when the safeties creep up and there is no one deep. If he overthrows it, no big deal. But if a QB doesn't rifle the out, it'll get picked off by a CB cutting off the route.
11/19/2009 10:08:10 PM
^ now thats some good ST analysis
11/19/2009 11:10:58 PM
11/20/2009 10:40:34 AM
i've seen commentators compliment rivers on his ability to hit that deep out on occasion as well, not because of his arm strength, but because his timing is impeccable. Obviously, we all know hes damn good
11/20/2009 12:13:32 PM
11/20/2009 1:25:07 PM
they were talking about top 5 QB's on first take earlier...Skip Bayless had Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger, Rivers and Brees in that order.I can't remember the other guys name, but he had Manning, Brady, Brees, Rodgers and McNabb.
11/20/2009 1:37:40 PM
^ I saw that too.. McNabb in the top 5? What a fucking idiot.
11/20/2009 1:39:38 PM
liberal. media. conspiracy.
11/20/2009 1:42:41 PM
I'm sorry Skip, I don't care about his SB rings, I'd take Brees over Big Ben all day. Big Ben just holds the ball too long and if he wasn't behind a solid OL he would take even more of a beating, see: Aaron Rodgers, David Carr. And I'd say Big Ben vs. Rivers is more of a toss-up. Rings vs. stats. You can't always go by rings or Dan Marino would be way down the list of best QBs. I'd probably have a similar to 5 to Skip but I'd have a different order.
11/20/2009 1:59:43 PM
I, too, would take Brees over Big BenRoflcopter is very Dr. Jekyll/Mr Hyde. One play he makes a ridiculous throw or run to keep a drive alive, then the next play he will throw across his body into triple coverage and get it picked.
11/20/2009 2:09:02 PM
Stats worked out by a guy on the Chargers forums named ikeyray, awesome poster (unparalleled stats guru)
12/7/2009 11:44:03 PM
^ good find
12/9/2009 9:08:32 PM
yeah but you guys know he had LT, otherwise he would be doing meth in montana with ryan leaf somewhere
12/9/2009 9:29:33 PM
<WET BLANKET TIME>the thing is, p. riv has thrown less than those guys in his career (thanks to martyball and lt+turner early on)i just got this off espn.com. hopefully i didn't screw it up:career attempts per game:p. riv 1802 / 64 = 28.15real manning 6420 / 188 = 34.1brady 4111 / 125 = 32.9brees 4042 / 119 = 34.0cutlerfucker 1641 / 49 = 33.5manning lite 2663 / 85 = 31.3career ints per attempt:p. riv 42 / 1802 = 2.33%real manning 176 / 6420 = 2.74%brady 96 / 4111 = 2.34%brees 109 / 4042 = 2.70%cutlerfucker 77 / 1641 = 4.69%manning lite 85 / 2663 = 3.19%so phil still has the best ints per attempt percentage, just barely over brady. on top of that, i think higher pass per game ratios will unfairly boost a QB's interception count, because the defense will be playing the pass. nobody could play the pass against phil until this year.</WET BLANKET TIME>anyways p riv is awesome
12/9/2009 10:45:29 PM
He needs a ring
12/9/2009 10:48:30 PM
just for fun i thought i'd do ints + fumbles, because it seems like our boy is always fumbling. at least when i'm watching. maybe i'm just cursed?anyways, career (ints + fumbles) / attempts:p. riv (42 + 12) / 1802 = 3.00%real manning (176 + 19) / 6420 = 3.037%brady (96 + 17) / 4111 = 2.75%brees (109 + 14) / 4042 = 3.04%cutlerfucker (77 + 20) / 1641 = 5.91%manning lite (85 + 10) / 2663 = 3.57%in other news, jay cutler is a turnover machine. somebody should tell the bears before they trade for him!
12/9/2009 10:59:48 PM
but a qb fumble wouldn't count as an attempt. it would just be a snap, sack/fumble. you'd have to calculate snaps taken, i guess.
12/10/2009 12:06:44 AM
it was his birthday the other dayHAPPY BELATED, PHIL
