Is that new construction? Streetview pics show empty lots.[Edited on March 15, 2013 at 8:40 AM. Reason : was that new construction]
3/15/2013 8:40:15 AM
Yep, it's a couple of months into it I think.
3/15/2013 8:47:22 AM
yeah. I am not sure exactly how new but they are still filling it out right now so the timing worked out perfectly for me. My assignment here is 6-7 months at the moment. I doubt it will be shorter but it could be longer. Worst/longest case for me is 2 years - there are two projects right now. The first one I am on is this the initial stint and then we are bidding on another job and if we win they want me to stay out here for up to another 18 months on that... (but I think I would try to work something out where I am back and forth and not full time up here if that was the case). The money when you go work out of town for this kind of thing is outstanding, but it comes at the expense of living at home with my wife. Some people don't care about that and are glad to get away from their wives but I actually do miss being at home with my wife and dog everyday a good bit. /lifeblogSo far, so good though in Greensboro. I've done nothing but walked between my apartment and the downtown bar/restaurant area this entire weekend and I'm still in one piece. I feel reasonably safe doing it, but it does get pretty quiet on the last stretch up Eugene to Smith where I'm usually the only one there at 2am. I'll be home the next two weekends but once I'm back, if anyone wants to grab a beer or something sometime, let me know.[Edited on March 17, 2013 at 11:36 AM. Reason : ]

So Deep Roots is perfect for me. Tonight was the first time I've gotten to go since it opened because I was in Raleigh presenting at State Wed/Thursday and then back home this weekend.Glad they have the small hot bar and that it is a reasonable price. Overall it's the perfect size for a downtown grocer, I like what they offer, and I have a feeling I'll be there frequently considering it's literally across the street from my apartments.----On a different topic...where are the "chill" bars or dive bars around Greensboro. Natty Greenes isn't bad and there are times I'm up for a louder bar like some of the others I've tried around time, but on the regular I tend to prefer the smaller, quieter bars or the moodier Belgian bars etc. especially i I will be going out by myself some here. IOW, high quality brews with a conversational atmosphere. I have several back home that I love but I haven't really found that yet here so I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of one downtown.

I think there is only one person from Greensboro that I can stand the site of, never like the whole bunch of em
3/25/2013 8:40:58 PM
^^ so apparently I was drunk or something when I wrote that based on the typos. doh. Not sure what happened there [Edited on March 25, 2013 at 8:49 PM. Reason : ]
3/25/2013 8:49:12 PM
^^ also siteI've heard decent things about the Flat Iron. To be honest though I've got no idea about downtown bars anymore. Last time I went drinking downtown we were thrown out of a bar (Natty Greene's). Here's the DGI website, that might helphttp://downtowngreensboro.net
3/26/2013 12:13:14 AM
Nattie Greens suck.
3/26/2013 12:32:29 AM
^^ Thanks I'll look into Flat Iron. Appreciate the website too.I'd be interested in checking out stuff outside of direct downtown as well; that's just always my first preference since I could walk there instead of drive.
3/28/2013 10:21:57 AM
It looks like that new Ham's they are opening up downtown is going to be pretty sweet. Hard to believe they were almost out of business 5 years ago.
3/28/2013 10:42:45 AM
I'm looking forward to checking out the new Ham's.^^no problem.
3/28/2013 10:32:38 PM
any good Sushi restaurants downtown? Or any restaurants in general downtown I should check out?
4/3/2013 1:09:51 PM
I liked hanging out at ritchie's but im not sure if it's around anymore. Also liked natty greens, greys tavern, m'couls. All somewhat near each other too. I have absolutely no idea about sushi in Greensboro though [Edited on April 3, 2013 at 3:24 PM. Reason : ]
4/3/2013 3:23:46 PM
^^ The sushi at Hibachi Cafe (on elm right next to the tracks) is pretty good and CHEAP.
4/3/2013 3:38:25 PM
^^ Thanks. I've been to Natty Greens and Greys so far. I'll look into the others. From reading online it seems like M'Coul's has a good brunch so that may be a good time to go there.^ Awesome, thank you. Definitely sounds like a place I should be checking out. I will most likely go there one day this weekend.[Edited on April 3, 2013 at 3:56 PM. Reason : ]

http://www.news-record.com/home/1018097-63/update-greensboro-mayor-declares-bankruptcyfor those of you in the city, Mayor Perkins filed for divorce before his election and was ordered to pay alimony and child support to his wife and kids. They've gone back and forth in court several times and last year Mayor Perkins quit his job on the board of directors for Newbridge in hopes of getting his monthly amount lowered. Judge more or less laughed him out of court over that. The Mayor made roughly 500k last year. He is currently dating a bankruptcy attorney and has yet to give up his membership at the country club. Mayor Perkins is primarily a realtor and this year has sold 3 million in property. He also owns quite a bit of property around the city, but has only defaulted on the house his wife and kids live in which he is required to pay the mortgage for. It's amusing. If you get a chance to catch channel 13 when they have the replay of the council meetings do so. There's two or three people that come to every meeting and talk at the beginning. It's like watching a train wreck sometimes. There's one guy that was a former police officer that wears sunglasses to the meetings and the other one is a white guy that keeps calling the Mayor out and asking him to resign. Still not as good as the guy that used to hang the county commissioners in effigy and was banned from attending meetings for a while because the threatened to blow them up and brought a box with wires in to demonstrate how easy it would be..lol
4/7/2013 4:08:58 AM
ha wow. I had no idea about any of that Also, I went to Hibachi Cafe Friday night. Very good for the price, especially since you get 8 pieces per roll for most of them. I will definitely be a regular there on the weekends I am in town. Thanks again![Edited on April 7, 2013 at 11:15 AM. Reason : ]

You should be within walking distance of The Corner Slice if you're looking for a pizza place downtown.
4/8/2013 11:28:24 AM
Thank you. I didn't know that was there. Easily within walking distance; looks like it is a quarter mile or so so I'll definitely check it out.
4/8/2013 11:38:48 AM
The Corner Slice isn't half bad. I still like Mario's better. alsohttp://www.news-record.com/news/elections/1030275-63/records-perkins-in-debt-108m

First Thirsty Thursday for the Hoppers tomorrow night.
4/10/2013 8:22:54 AM
Just heard that yesterday. If I don't end up doing something with an old friend I am trying to catch-up with, I may end up walking to the game.
4/10/2013 8:24:48 AM
It's also opening night I believe, so it will probably be packed.
4/10/2013 8:26:33 AM
Yeah I believe you're right, but there was definitely some game being played last week. Maybe a HS or college team was using the field? I know back home Furman and Clemson both play some games downtown at our nice minor league stadium.I think my apartment complex actually has 1 ticket available for everyone in the complex or something. I need to check into that if my other plans don't pan out.
4/10/2013 8:33:57 AM
When I was in High School we played our All-Star game at War Memorial, where the Hornets/Bats (now Grasshoppers) used to play. I'm sure when there aren't home games they will rent the field out to anyone willing to pay for it.Funny story. I read the schedule wrong one year and me and a buddy went to the stadium expecting it to be Thirsty Thursday. We get there and there was no line at the box office, which was strange. Come to find out it was a High School Cheerleading competition. We probably would have stayed anyway if they were serving beer.[Edited on April 10, 2013 at 8:39 AM. Reason : a]

I just avoid that whole stretch of Elm after probably 10pm. I had multiple people (adults and teens) seeming like they are just tempting you to do something to start a fight when I was walking back through there when I first got up here for work. It's not worth dealing with that.
7/3/2013 9:57:04 AM
hmmm too early to hit a strip club?
8/6/2013 12:40:45 PM
I've realized that a lot of the show Campus PD is filmed in Greensboro.
8/6/2013 12:42:12 PM
why does that not surprise me.
8/6/2013 12:50:08 PM
Also in case you don't know Wendover is going to have a lot more cops on it because of the aggressive driving campaign running this week. So be careful
8/6/2013 12:53:13 PM
What channel does Campus PD come on?Also, Krallum should promote his upcoming show here
8/6/2013 12:59:55 PM
It's on G4 or Spike, usually before or after Cops
8/6/2013 1:01:27 PM
Which campus are they on? I'd guess A&T, but it's probably UNCG
8/6/2013 1:02:08 PM
I don't recall, but it's usually them busting college kids at bars and off-campus parties (so it's somewhat of a misnomer)
8/6/2013 1:15:39 PM
I'll make it easyAre the kids black or white?
