I spent all day yesterday trying to install Windows 7. Once it was "finished" installing, I got the motherfucking reboot loop thing. Vista is gone, I can't boot into 7, I hate my life, etc. Fuck.
10/28/2009 12:54:40 PM
so how can I get flash to work on my desktop with x64? I'm trying to use the pandora desktop gadget (I used it in Vista x86 and really liked it) but since flash isn't supported on x64, I can't get the gadget to work. I've tried downloading it in FF and IE, I've googled as well (no working solutions yet).
10/28/2009 7:09:51 PM
how in the world do you screw up a windows 7 install...
10/28/2009 7:43:26 PM
lolso, my boss goes and buys his mom a new laptop because it says "WINDOWS 7" on the side of the box (and she was of the "i hate vista forever and always" crowd and f'ed up her last laptop) of course he didn't read the details.turns out it's a free upgrade to 7.. i'm almost certain both of them would have believed me it if i had just told them it was windows 7 and hell, they probably would have liked it then, lol

That Pandora desktop app is really buggy. Don't let it run out of GDI handles.
10/28/2009 8:48:31 PM
^^mine says I need to upgrade my flash player... which I've done. other flash programs have worked well so far... the pandora gadget will not work^I've never had issues. [Edited on October 28, 2009 at 10:10 PM. Reason : .]

How can I get my PS3 to show what I am watching on my computer (thinking about hockey games using justin.tv). I use the ps3 wireless now, but it seems like this would be better, if possible.Any other cool tricks... I love moving a window way right or left and it auto-docking. I use it every day.
10/28/2009 10:53:58 PM
why not just pull up justin.tv on the ps3?so i'm having problems with xp mode. i think i installed it, it says its installed, but it doesn't show up in the start menu and there are no applications in the directory. what the hell? i need it to run expandrive[Edited on October 28, 2009 at 11:15 PM. Soooo fucking angry at Windows 7 installation. 2 days now with a completely unusable computer. Going to attempt to reinstall Vista which will hopefully not lose me any files, but then who knows if a 7 reinstall will work or not. I had an easier time installing an unsupported Linux distro on my rev D iMac back in high school. Holy fuck.

^never heard of it. i'll check it out.^^tried moving sidebar to the startup x86 folder... no luck^^^because I don't have a 64-bit version of autocad. hopefully I'll get one soon, but until then, I need something that works (and 32-bit worked in xp mode).

Vista Home Premium SP2, Windows 7 Home Premium. At what appeared to be the end of the installation process, it rebooted. After rebooting, it says there was a problem with the installation and to restart the process. However, Vista is gone, so I can only boot into 7, which shows the aforementioned dialog. If I boot from the installation DVD, it says to reboot the computer without the DVD to begin the installation process. All I can figure is that I have to reinstall Vista in order to upgrade to 7, which may or may not destroy my user data, or do a complete wipe and install 7 from scratch, which will definitely destroy my user data.http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9139991/Windows_7_endless_reboot_answer_evades_Microsoft]
10/29/2009 12:11:26 PM
worst case scenario you just have to mount that harddrive to something else and backup your data, its still on there so don't worry too much
10/29/2009 12:40:20 PM
it wont destroy your data. it'll put it in a "windows.old" file or some shit like that.. no worries there.[Edited on October 29, 2009 at 12:44 PM. Reason : lawlz]
10/29/2009 12:43:40 PM
Yeah, I've got an external hard drive with the data backed up on it (which is having a separate issue, lolz: /message_topic.aspx?topic=580074). I'm more worried about the pain in the ass than the loss of data.

So, lets say I have a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. How much would it be worth, even though its technically NFR.
10/29/2009 1:12:21 PM
I got $210 for my 32/64 right before the release date. I think they might have dropped on ebay after the 22nd.
10/29/2009 1:16:36 PM
^^You can sell legally NFR versions, see first sale doctrine. Ethically though, well that's a different issue. If the selling of NFR is abused, I'd say that MS will be more reluctant to give out free versions in the years to come.
10/29/2009 1:21:44 PM
^ Thanks. I might just pawn this copy off them since its sealed in plastic wrap.

just upgraded from vista sp2 2 days ago. the process was easy, no snags. I'm really liking it so far, fast and easy
10/30/2009 12:03:58 AM
my only real complaint is the taskbar. and even that is a minor one. i like it overall, but i don't like that if i have multiple firefox windows open for instance, i would prefer to be able to just click on the firefox icon and it takes me to the most recently opened window. instead it forces you to choose from the previews. other than that, i'm pretty pleased.

http://blog.pandora.com/faq/#1369that's for x64 vista but i imagine it can't be much different with 7i mean i assume you did that by other means, but it's the only help i can offer. with a quick google search it worked in x64 7 betas
10/30/2009 1:36:45 AM
^^^^you can always reactivate the old quick launch if you want.
10/30/2009 2:00:10 AM
yeah i understand that. but that's not what i'd prefer. i'd prefer exactly how it is now, except that if i click and release on just the icon, it goes to the top window from that icon. i like the uncluttered look of win7 over vista's. unless you mean something else that i'm not understanding.

Installed Windows 7 on a dual-boot with my existing Ubuntu installation...not sure I said that right. Surprisingly easy to do. I had a few problems with my graphics card adapter working with Windows 7 though...the screen would randomly be all blue with horizontal lines, though videos still played, just that I could only see a blue screen. Ctrl+Alt+Del sometimes worked, other times I had to reboot. After much forum browsing, I had to overclock the graphics card by ~5MHz from its default and it seems like it's OK now. Also installed the Zune software and signed up for a trial pass....it's excellent so far.

I downloaded the upgrade yesterday off the $30 student site. Read this thread before downloading and figured surely I won't have the same problem spookyjon had...well, I did. Computer is not responding at all.I was running a completely legal copy of Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. My computer easily fits the specs for running Windows 7. I downloaded Windows Home Premium 64 bit and ran the program. Chose "Upgrade" as instructed since I was upgrading from Vista.First time I ran the install, got all the way though and ended up on a blank black screen after the Windows 7 logo appeared. Left it for an hour or two...nothing. So I manually restarted it, thinking it froze. Came up on the black screen two more times. Restarted each time...finally loaded into a screen that said my install didn't work and rolled back to Vista. Worked without problem...Vista came back.Well, I figured I'd try it again. Ran the install. Same thing...at the end of the install when its restarting, it goes to a black screen. If I move my mouse, my cursor pops up, but nothing else. I can't do anything from this screen. I've restarted 15-20 times since and get the same thing. Safe Mode tells me that the install is not complete and only prompts me to restart. I do, and it tries to run Windows normally but then goes to the blank, black screen. Had to come into work this morning to use a computer to try and figure out what the issue is. I see a ton of threads about it online, but nothing I believe will work. The only promising thing I've seen is that my video card needs to upgrade firmware to Windows 7. Not sure how to do this when I can't see anything. And since I don't have a disc, I can't boot Windows from a disc.Any ideas?
11/1/2009 8:36:53 AM
****Was able to fix my problem. Had to unplug the monitor's DVI from the computer. Had to run on VGA. Windows 7 would not recognize the monitor in DVI.*****

Having an annoying issue on my 32bit Win7 with MS Office on my personal PC. Downloaded the MS Office SP2 and all other updates for it, but I keep getting these "sharing violation" warnings and save errors from Excel (mostly) and it seems like Word and Excel (the main two I use) are creating and leaving lots of temporary files. Strange, since I upgraded from WinXP and none of this happened. Upon researching the MS Forums, it seems that it's the University's AV prog - Trend Micro causing the problems. After I turned off the AV scanner it's back to working fine. Maybe I don't even need to bother w/ Trend Micro ....
