I have a phone interview (at the place I currently work) this coming week...I has scheduled vacation a month ago so it will not be in person. I think there will be 3 people sitting in for the interview with really one person asking the questions. I work with all three daily. Heck, I got the job I have now just doing a phone interview. It is a promotion, I am so comfortable talking on the phone because I do that all day at work so I don't think I will have a problem. I kinda know who I am up against...will be interesting to see who gets it.[Edited on April 4, 2010 at 4:14 AM. Reason : w]

i'm going to conclude that any engineer who can't get a job is not willing to relocate
4/4/2010 2:30:46 PM
or has less than 1-2 years co-op/intern experience that all "entry" level jobs want/require[Edited on April 4, 2010 at 3:01 PM. Reason : that's not me but i still haven't found anything for when i graduate in may]

^^yea, that's kind of a dick thing to saypeople coming out of college with no experience are going to have the absolute toughest time finding working IMO.you really think engineering hasn't been touched at all by the recession?
4/4/2010 3:11:34 PM
engineering has most certainly been touched, but there are jobs if you are willing to follow them. Sure, you may not be able to find one in the Triangle or even the southeast. But if you are willing to go pretty much where ever you need to, you should be able to find a job in a pretty reasonable amount of time.

I work for the feds, have since about a year after college....I have had to relocate 3 times for advancement jobs and I have this one I am interviewing for at my current place plus another one that is in another state that hopefully I will get a interview for also (I have been helped with networking on that one, go betweens have put in a good word for me). It seems everytime I want to advance I have had to relocate, seems like it is occuring about every 3 years. Old school feds waited 10 years to get to a certain salary, I am willing to wait 2 or 3 years and if it does not occur where I am at, I will relocate. Eventually though I need to settle down somewhere. However, for now, I am really focused on my career and want to get to a certain level before I think about putting down roots anywhere.[Edited on April 4, 2010 at 4:30 PM. Reason : e]

Back when I was looking for something last year from February to August I couldn't get calls for anything. I was applying for everything entry level that showed up on indeed.com. Granted that was probably the worst part of the recession, I couldn't get anyone from out of state to call me.

Oh well, phone interview was moved up, tough tough questions (14)....oh well, at least I have a job, been 2 and a half years since I interviewed for my current job. I sorta had an idea who they were targeting and I think they were just doing interviews because the higher ups dont want them to rely solely on the KSA questions. I had 10 narrative questions to answer when I turned it in, scored a 100 so at least I know my answers were good. Now, I have them for future uses.

I am still unemployed- been trying to look for some part time work that I wouldn't mind, but nothing really has interested me (except one place that I made it to a second interview and they ended up going with someone else)
4/25/2010 7:06:44 PM
finally had someone interested in me (they contacted me after seeing my basic resume online), so I sent them an updated/cleaner/better version but I still haven't heard back. :/

I just posted a message in the tech jobs thread, so if you are an unemployed programmer with some experience, head over to tech talk and take a look. I posted 5 positons.http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=532684&page=5Also, UNC Chapel Hill doesnt do a very good job posting positions externally. I highly suggest you go to hr.unc.edu and look at staff positions in the various departments.[Edited on April 29, 2010 at 3:12 PM. Reason : .]

omfg did I get lucky I just accepted an offer today in Greenville.-After months of looking I was convinced I'd be taking a huge pay cut, but I'm actually going to be making more than I do now. -Telling people I want to be a developer is super demoralizing. "Oh you don't have any industry experience. I see..." Well, fuck you. I'm finally getting out of testing.-There is nothing in Greenville. It is a black hole for IT. Yet...A man can change his stars

The clock is ticking on my current employment and so far zero luck on jobs I've applied for in NC. Some of them I'm more than qualified for and they don't even bother setting up an interview. Tis' depressing
