new pearl jam came out on the 20th, just bought it last night, listening to it for the first time now..
9/23/2009 7:03:02 PM
enjoying the girls album, even if the singer's voice annoys me from time to time
9/23/2009 10:42:42 PM
I'm ten seconds into the Girls album and I came in here to say that these vocals make me angry
9/23/2009 10:57:56 PM
two tracks in and i'm pretty sure Alberta Cross - Broken Side of Time is going to end up being a favorite of 2009. "ATX" is badass.http://www.myspace.com/albertacross[Edited on September 23, 2009 at 11:09 PM. Reason : link]

tell you whatafter giving the monsters of folk album a few spinsi'm really glad i didnt order tickets for their show here in phillyi was very close to doing so a few months ago whent hey went on sale without even hearing the album, but the $50+ pricepoint scared me away..
9/24/2009 12:34:05 PM
^ yeh, it's not very good at all
9/24/2009 1:08:18 PM
i think a lot of it depends on how much you like the traveling wilburysthat joke was being applied to this band before anyone heard note one, but after hearing it a few times, that's exactly what they sound like, minus some jeff lynne overproduction
9/24/2009 1:32:53 PM
The first half of the MOF album is above average, the second half is a snoozefest
9/24/2009 2:24:45 PM
^^i saw grayson say that in his reviewand then it reminded me that i hadn't listened to TWEETER AND THE MONKEY MAN in a month or so[Edited on September 24, 2009 at 4:56 PM. Reason : AND THE WALLS CAME DOWN... ALL THE WAY TO HELL...]

9/27/2009 1:49:44 PM
it came out about a month before Monster Head Room.. i guess it's an EP, even though it has 8 tracks on it and isn't much shorter than the full length. it's good though.
9/27/2009 2:04:07 PM
^wow. i thought it sucked. they improved and changed a lot between that and monster head room. i understand why they opening for wavves now though...
9/27/2009 6:33:56 PM
something wrong with opening for wavves? Zach Hill f'd up my ribcage and it feels great. There was no stage at the venue I was at in Chicago...so we circled the band. Great night.
9/27/2009 6:59:40 PM
i think it's because the self-titled album sounds much closer to wavves' aesthetic than monster head room does.
9/27/2009 7:04:58 PM
hey, paste magazine said their band of the week is Alberta Cross. I'm a fan of the whole album, thanks for posting earlier.
9/28/2009 10:55:49 AM
I like the new MOF album a lot.... and I too made the Traveling Wilbury's comparison long, long ago on this very interwebs board.I do agree with others than the first half is more enjoyable than the 2nd, but I really like the album a lot.

haven't seen any love for the new vivian girls yet. i dig.
9/30/2009 12:15:12 AM
diggin thishttp://www.zmemusic.com/rock/indie/headlights-wildlife-out-october-6th/Headlights - Wildlife
9/30/2009 10:15:28 PM
^^omg.. the new vivian girls is almost the same, and yet somehow much better than their self-titled. i'm in love all over again. they're playing in charlotte oct. 27th and it will be awesome.
9/30/2009 10:51:54 PM
so, this dead man's bones album is not half-bad for having the guy from the notebook in it.
9/30/2009 11:25:32 PM
I saw Vivian Girls last year and it was pretty much compete nonsense. Im not buying the overly long hype on that.
10/1/2009 12:27:38 AM
i saw them this spring at local 506 and i thought they were pretty great. i'm not buying the hipster backlash.
10/1/2009 12:29:25 AM
eh well I guess compared to other brooklyn bands their popularity seems unwarranted and somewhat ridiculous.
10/1/2009 12:41:16 AM
im trying to get into this new Le Loup, mainly because on their first album the song "We are Gods! We are Wolves!" still holds the title for "Catchiest Song About Abraham Sacrificing His Son". probably will forever. also check out "Breathing Rapture" for a simon-garfunkelesque apocalypse. Actually i think the whole album is bible related and i thought they were a Christian tagged band but I dont see any mention on wikipedia.Anyway, on the new album i love the guitar picking on "Morning Song" and "Grow" sounds like an outtake from Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished. "Forgive Me" sounds like it would be fun live, reminds of Arcade Fire. "Go East" sounds like a Grizzly Bear/Dept. of Eagles arrangement. "Sherpa" is the standout and the only song I had to immediately hit replay on. it lifted my spirits. as did the last two songs so it was a great close, not so great opening for the album. overall 6.8/10 for me. won't top any lists for the year for me but enjoyable.
10/1/2009 1:19:36 AM
ok so im listening to all my new music at once, shoot menow its onto Neon Indian's Psychic Chasms. cheesy lo-fi synth pop. notables "Deadbeat Summer", "Terminally Chill", and "Psychic Chasms"i'm still trying to track down a copy of Toro y Moi cause its similar i think

the new built to spill is streaming in its entirety (i think) at their myspace. it's really good, front to back.
10/1/2009 5:51:05 PM
scotland yard gospel choir is great. it sounds like a smiths cover band, but good.built to spill is, of course, excellent. the first half feels a little subdued but there are lots of high points, like "aisle 13", "life's a dream", "oh yeah" and "things fall apart".
10/2/2009 4:29:37 PM
ive been listening to Sufjan Steven's The BQE nonstop, Movement II is so beautiful
10/6/2009 11:22:19 AM
^^^'Perfect From Now On' good?
10/6/2009 11:28:18 AM
it's not as good as Perfect From Now On or Keep It Like A Secret, but still pretty good.. better than their last two
10/6/2009 11:33:33 AM
yeah, i'm not sure they'll ever top those two. but it's their best work in a decade, absolutely.
10/6/2009 12:06:34 PM
^ agreed from the streams I heard. Gonna buy this asap when I get home.
10/6/2009 4:14:50 PM
This album is fucking FANTASTIC!

did anyone else happen to catch colbert report last night? he interviewed john darnielle and the mountain goats performed one of thier new songs. apparently colbert is a pretty big fan, which is pretty cool.
