Yeah, I'd say they might have a higher average rating than us, but that doesn't mean much at this point. We've both had some 5-star flops over the years and some 2-3 star surprises. I still think we'll have some 2-3 star players be stars, mainly our LB's(Lucas, Maddox), OL's(Allen, Wallace, Jaradat), and ATH's(Graham, Wolff, Palmer).
2/6/2008 12:08:07 PM
and remember UNC and Miami came after our "low quality" 2 star corner Gary Grant
2/6/2008 12:11:36 PM
Yeah I think our 2-stars have potential and they weren't evaluated by various media sources as to why they don't have higher star ratings. The offer list for our 2-star guys aren't bad, and Jaradat is suppose to be the #1 prep player in Canada. And Clem Johnson supposedly has been getting a lot of attention from major schools since committing to us.
2/6/2008 12:15:49 PM
Well, TOB is a better coach than Butch I believe so I could give a fuck all about their stars. We'll see you on the field.
2/6/2008 12:17:54 PM
^ftw

All of our commits are in now. Looks like we had a successful day, didn't get Mackey but keeping all of our great commits is good enough for me, haha.

ESPN is showing us at #20 now

As far as QBs go it's the Mike Glennon show on the ESPNU recruitment special.

"NC State may have the next Matt Ryan in Mike Glennon"-headline at the bottom of the screen while they showed his highlights
2/6/2008 3:36:40 PM
I just hope it's not the next Marcus Stone.
2/6/2008 3:37:14 PM
Tom O'Brien is going to be on the Primetime with the Packman radio show today "at 5 oclock" according to Packer although he might mean sometime in the 5:00 hourshould be interesting^he's 6'6" and according to scout.com his strengths are 'accuracy' 'arm strength' and 'touch' and his only negative is 'mobility'sounds good on the surface[Edited on February 6, 2008 at 3:38 PM. 2/6/2008 3:38:03 PM
he needs to get some meat on him tholook how skinny his arm is...like fucking Tayshaun Prince[Edited on February 6, 2008 at 3:47 PM. Reason : x]
2/6/2008 3:47:08 PM
yeah i saw the 6'6" part and was like "nice, a QB who can see over the line" then I saw he was like a buck 85
2/6/2008 3:50:36 PM
Yeah that's why Glennon will end up redshirting. Even if he has the ability to make every throw in the book, he still will need time to add some muscle, and learn how to read college defenses. The difference in speed between the college and high school game are worlds apart.
2/6/2008 3:51:37 PM
If any of you watched the Under Armor game, this kid is for real. He looked excellent and was clearly the best QB there (Including EJ Manuel... who many consider to be the #1 QB)Some throws were wide open, but others were difficult (On the run across his body, fades, etc) to recievers he had been playing with for a week. He has very good arm strength and pocket poise. Let him learn the system and I think he'll be an all-ACC quarterback from what I've seen. [Edited on February 6, 2008 at 4:02 PM. Reason : ]

State #31 and UNC #34 on Rivals final rankings
2/6/2008 4:07:28 PM
you'd think "quality" would rank higher than "quantity" is what I'm saying. In fact, they aren't ranked here, which is what I was referring to:http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/columns/story?columnist=luginbill_tom&id=3214300They weren't even considered.(here it comes about that poll being "shit")[Edited on February 6, 2008 at 4:13 PM. 2/6/2008 4:11:44 PM
You clearly don't understand how those team rankings are calculated. It's a combination of quality and quantity. It's almost impossible to break the Top 25 with only 17 signees unless you're bringing in almost all 4 and 5 star guys.
2/6/2008 4:18:48 PM
UNC got some good kids, but higher quality than ours??? The wilson TE fell into their laps when michigan didnt want him. Coples may not make it in, the other DE is getting over a tumor. Dwight Jones.....might not ever make it in himself. THey got some good LB's, but hell, we got some good LB's. Other than that...................they don't have a whole hell of a lot
2/6/2008 4:19:54 PM
No, it's,clearly I don't understand somebody saying how awesome UNC football will be on a state messageboard in a state football thread...
2/6/2008 4:24:37 PM
^^ Womble, Williams, Davidson........Also, we got a verbal from class of 2009 WR Josh Adams about half an hour ago. Great start for the 09 class.^ Someone asked how Carolina's class compared to State's. I was just giving my opinion.[Edited on February 6, 2008 at 4:27 PM. Reason : ]
2/6/2008 4:25:17 PM
I think it's fair to say O'Brien and Butch both have a history of developing very talented players.Who cares who is ranked higher...we'll still whoop em'
2/6/2008 4:26:17 PM
Also.......speaking of QUALITYTop 100 recruits:NC State-2UNC-0THeres a difference b/t a bunch of lower tiered 4 stars and a few mid-high tier 4 stars. But w/e gets UNC fans through the day
2/6/2008 4:29:41 PM

2/6/2008 4:33:42 PM
^^ it was three before Terrell Manning got hurt. even though that was in Rivals' or Scout's rankings. he wasn't in the ESPN 150, but I think that list was finalized after he got hurt.
2/6/2008 4:46:21 PM
Yes, you guys are more top heavy than us. We have more highly touted players throughout though.[Edited on February 6, 2008 at 4:51 PM. Reason : ]
2/6/2008 4:48:22 PM
TOB is speaking on 850
2/6/2008 4:52:15 PM
State got 3 of the top 5 players in the stateword up
2/6/2008 4:53:07 PM
You can say all you want about ranking classes but until they get on the college field you won't know jack. The ranking is based on potential. Hell Jimmy Clausen was the second coming of Montana and so far he is a bust. I like our class but lets see what TOB can do with it, he's done more with less at BC so we shall see. I think we are still 2 seasons away from being a top tier ACC team but we are getting there.
2/6/2008 5:00:47 PM
^yeah no doubt...its interesting to go back and look at our classes over the last few years and their *Star rankings coming out of high school versus their productionyou've got your 5 stars like Mario who play like 5 stars, but iirc Manny Lawson was a 2 star recruit and now he's playing on Sundays
2/6/2008 5:28:42 PM
Thomas Barnes was only a 2* recruit and he played well in a reserve role for us as a freshman last year.
2/6/2008 5:33:55 PM
Miami then Clemson in the final ESPN rankings 1 and 2
2/6/2008 6:25:52 PM
2/7/2008 12:21:30 AM
we need to redshirt him
2/7/2008 12:22:30 AM
If he can significantly improve our team, why red-shirt him? At his height, he's never going to be a bulky guy, so the whole sitting him a year so he can "bulk up" doesn't seem like it'd be tremendously beneficial.Unless Wilson provides an answer, or Beck/Burke show some huge gains, I'd much rather take our lumps with Glennon than say, Evans. I'd like to have a quarterback that can throw an out route without it getting picked off.
2/7/2008 6:51:33 AM
Sounds like a solid class for us, and I really hope Geron James can get his act together and rejoin the team. Dude would be a serious plus for our WR corps.
2/7/2008 10:52:06 AM
yea, play him. It's not like we have any decent QB that's playing right now.
2/7/2008 10:54:34 AM
2/7/2008 10:55:53 AM
^Yeah I agree I'd love for Glennon to be ready to start, but there could be negative repercussions if he starts too early. He could struggle his whole first season and lose confidence, and with our fan base not all being football savvy they could turn on him. While I don't think Glennon is that type of player, he seems to have a good football mind and confidence about him, but you can never really tell with high school kids, especially QB's.In Tom We Trust.
