Yes.I'd be happy with fire-and-forget SAMs and an AA tank on every map.

so basically, you want a noob cannon that kills jets in one shot?I wouldn't get 60 kills "flying around in circles" if I had a jet on my ass harassing me.I promise you, it works well. Try it out. Also,

I consider myself a "good" pilot. I die 0-3 times while flying, deaths due to carelessness or lag usually. Jumping in a stinger/igla will be CERTAIN death for you. It takes about half a second of gunfire to not only kill the guy, but to blow up the site as well.they're the easiest kills on the map, and they'll always be right there waiting for you.all you have to do is spiral up to 300+ (at which point you can no longer be seen from the ground), fly out and back and blow up the guy in the stinger.yeah I hate missiles flying through blackhawks too. I like shooting bullets up the ass of that huge Z8 thing or whatever it is. You'll gut like the whole crew, it's pretty hilarious[Edited on October 16, 2005 at 11:22 PM. Reason : poop]

taking out mobile AA with a cobra is pretty easy, tooon the dam map, i took out 14 mobile AAs in a row... i was the gunner, and my pilot happened to be really good. when we'd get locked on, we'd run like hell then peek over a hill across the valley... i'd instantly fire off a hellfire and he'd instantly drop back behind the mountain.. the mobile aa wouldnt even have long enough to get a lock on us. so other than the other teams ramming us (and our own team), i dont think we died at alland i dont think a score of 70-80 should be that easy
10/17/2005 6:38:45 AM
heres a hintdont jump in the stationary AA until you can see us.once you shoot the missiles, (and miss) gtfo of the thing. You light up like a xmas tree while you're sitting there reloading.
10/17/2005 7:49:46 AM
that doesnt sound too promising in shooting down aircraft

Few things here...I said SA-80 earlier and I meant SA-7. Only the Vietnamese had them in BFV and it was a very limited kit. We rarely used them in matches because they weren't very accurate and you had to pretty much set up by a ammo crate to use them due to only being able to carry 3 rounds. If someone charged you on foot, good luck fighting them off with the pistol. Sometimes if we were blowing the other team away in a match, we'd all switch to SA-7 kits and see who could get the most ground kills before the round ended.Back to the pilot issue - I rarely have a problem with bombers, I'd say maybe 1 out of 10 rounds I get annoyed.Usually I move so much they don't mess with me. I rarely use ground vehicles except for FAV to get from one place to another quickly. Usually I'm on the ground and try to spend as much time under shelter and in buildings as possible to avoid arty or bombs. The only time they can get really annoying is in helicopters, and if they aren't flying into you usually they can be avoided. You have to get creative. If the pilot is constantly dropping bombs on you, hike over to his base with the spec ops loadout. If you can get someone to drop you off in a helo that's the best way to get there. Get them to drop you on the roof of the hanger and plant a bunch of C4 on it. When the pilot comes back to reload bombs, he'll probably be low enough that you can take him out when he flies over the hanger. Then kill him when he respawns and steal his jet. If you want to get really sneaky, fly it somewhere and land it so he will have to hike a long way to get it.Or get a convoy of jeeps and/or tanks to go to the airfield. When he flies over to reload, fire all your guns at him. He won't have any bombs to take you out and you'll probably catch him by surprise so he won't be lined up to gun you.The fun thing about the Battlefield games is the open-endedness. You can go anywhere on the map in any vehicle and do whatever you want. Get creative to take out a bomber, there are better ways than using SAMs.

all of your examples sound extremely unrealistic, c4 on the runway? come onand this sounds unrealistic, too:

Just be creative, there are so many things you can do with these games. In BFV my clan found an exploit with the mortars and mines. You would put down a mine, then set the mortar right on top of it. It would blow up the mine and launch you about 20 ft up in the air and only take maybe 20% of your health. There was a spot on Reclaiming Hue where you could propel yourself over the city wall and on top of a CP that you couldn't normally get on top of. We confused a couple clans pulling that trick. We'd cap a spawn and they had no idea how we got there so fast.Similar things can be done in BF2 but people either don't care, aren't sharing, or haven't figured them out yet. I'm willing to bet you could pull some crazy shit with the claymore and C4...[Edited on October 17, 2005 at 3:56 PM. Reason : t]

played some wake island with the enemy having the carrier and the airstrip capturedyou can tell the kind of team you're on as soon as you join half way through a game of 32 and you're the only person who is on a squadwell, i got my purple heart
10/17/2005 4:16:54 PM
I absolutely LOVE playing as a sniper when someone spots you, you round a corner, and they come chasing after you to run face first into a claymore you just planted. There are tons of great places to do this in Karkand and Mashtuur. The same trick also works with C4 if you can get to a safe distance. As a pilot, I do get a laugh when people on the other team start calling me out. The fact is that I'm only a mediocre pilot, and I make it my business to single out and hunt down vehicles. I never spawn bomb flags, I very seldom go after just infantry on foot, and I do tend to get shot down a few times per round - but usually only by other fighters. I have a 548:133 kill/death ratio, but something about that tells me that those numbers are pretty screwed up when I consider how few maps have the fighter bombers. I still believe having more mobile AA's would do a world of good on nearly every map. I personally love the Linebacker - it's very underrated. Now, for another question altogether. Is there any way to make it so that when you use the mouse wheel to change weapons that the weapon you stop on will automatically ready itself? Think Tribes - Opstand will know what I'm talking about. I found the "cycle weapons" key map in the options section, but I don't know how to make it be just the mouse wheel. I have become extremely annoyed when I go to switch to a grenade, and then the dumbass just sits there and holds it in his hand while I have the button pressed down because the interface is still thinking that I'm pressing to select that weapon.Hey, here's another good one. Is there any way to determine which servers have foreign IP's before you join? It's too bad there's not a "select region" filter. So many of the 64-person servers are not in the USA, and they have auto-boot on for pings higher than 150 (which is a good thing).
10/17/2005 5:31:02 PM
I didn't use the scroll wheel for weapon change in Tribes. I used it for set zoom. Instead of WASD I used a joystick and had the hat switch set up as weapon change. To this day I still can't play Tribes with a keyboard...
10/17/2005 5:36:45 PM
Wow, are you serious?! For as fast as Tribes is, I can't imagine playing it with anything other than a keyboard and mouse.
10/17/2005 6:17:12 PM
The joystick in Tribes is superior to the keyboard. I still use the mouse like normal, just use the joystick to move WASD. Trigger is jump, hat switch does change weapon, zoom, and throw flag. 4 buttons on top of stick are for nades, mines, use pack, and use health kit. 2 buttons on the base are for throw pack and place beacon. I used to have it set up so that the rudder twist switched to mortar when twisted one way and missles when twisted the other.Really the only thing I used the keyboard for was choosing loadouts and spamming voicebinds. So anyone up for some serious BF2 tomorrow night? I'm going to be on quite a bit...
10/18/2005 9:21:29 AM
Man, if you ever made it off the bridge in Reclaiming Hue, the other clans had no idea what they were doing (or it was very small clan matches). Three mortars at the NW flag would just spawn rape the US trying to get off the bridge. The ammo crates and BTR's prvided an endless supply of ammo and was extremely annoying.Found my new favorite anti-air last night. Sitting on the hill looking at the carrier with an eryx and a buddy rolling support. Just spammed rockets at the carrier all round (except for chasing off the occasional cobra who dared to try and hover cap), and had multiple kills of people jumping in the jet or CIWS.
10/18/2005 11:19:35 AM
^^ I might be able to play some if we can get a squad together - all depends on how my Wed. goes
10/18/2005 11:45:39 AM
^^ We jumped off the very back of the bridge beyond the draw distance of the other team. Unless they had a sniper on the south wall CPs they never saw us. We would have a sniper on the bridge to try to keep anyone from picking us off though. Usually 3 of us would jump off and the rest of the team would feign an attempt to leave the bridge. We would swim to the little island half way there, run a bit and swim the rest of the way to our "launch point".Once we got there we would take turns mortar-jumping onto the top of the southeastern most CP. When you got 3 guys up there you could take it fast. Sometimes you would kill yourself if you didn't place the mine just right on the hill (it would blast you back into the city wall and kill you), so that's why 3 people went. There was another wall jumping point on the northwest corner of the city by the tower, but it was much harder to pull off.Another technique that worked sometimes was to create a convoy of all the vehicles on the bridge. First we would drop 3 or 4 quick mortar rounds at the base of the bridge to kill off people putting down mines. Then someone would load up a jeep with C4 and haul ass off to clear a path through the remaining mines. If you did it fast enough and had an M113 right behind you, you could usually make it through. Then the tanks would roll through last. We would go straight up the road for the NW tower. That worked a couple times if you did it fast enough and caught the other team off guard.

Speaking of annoying players...what kind of a bitch spawn camps?I just had my first major run-in with one.On the plus side, I just dinged full-fledged corporal
10/20/2005 10:25:55 PM
Spawn camping is worthless in this game. You can spawn camp but anyone who knows anything about the game can just squad hop to beat you.
10/20/2005 10:41:27 PM
wtf is a squad hop
10/20/2005 10:56:38 PM
You go from squad to squad spawning on the squad leader to move around the map faster. All a squad leader has to do is hide out near a spawn and the whole team could eventually spawn on him to take a CP if they were organized enough.Sometimes if the squad leader dies, he quits the squad and rejoins, making someone else the squad leader for him to spawn on. You can keep this up indefinitely as long as one person stays alive.

I love that they made the blackhawk less efficent of a flag capper. No one takes it very much anymore, leaving me and the 4 or 5 guys I normally play with a free ride. I had 102 points on Dragon Valley and 113 on Matsur City by either being the pilot or gunner. Also picked up my veteran heal badge as the pilot healing up the crew members. I figure I average about 500 points a night when I play now.
10/21/2005 2:34:18 AM
Yeah they made it so that only one person in a vehicle can cap now, so if you have a Blackhawk full they have to jump out to make the flag timer go faster.
10/21/2005 9:24:29 AM
It has changed the game for the better if you ask me
10/21/2005 9:56:20 AM
Well, it's more realistic, that's for sure. I mean IRL, if a squad is going to secure an area, they don't just sit in the huge target that is a helicopter with a wrench out.At first I didn't like it, but the more I play the better I think this change is.
