I just read the first page of this thread, and there was a similar discussion about too many guards. Except on page 1 the discussion was about how Wall would find time with all of our other guards:

Purvis is a stud. If you are suggesting that Lewis will be taking minutes from Purvis (or Lobes) you are crazy.Hopefully Lewis pans out for us but he doesn't look very promising for next year. He's small and unathletic.Hopefully with some training, diet, age he will become an ACC caliber PG by his junior year. A lot of these "sick" passes you guys are talking about our PG in high school could make easily.Harrow was a sick passer last year too. Still wasn't worth a shit in ACC play. If Harrow couldn't score I'm not sure what makes anyone think this guy can either. Watching his highlight video I barely saw any shots that he will be able to get in college.

^come on now face. i agree that lewis will be used sparingly next year. but monkeys aren't the only one saying his passes are "sick". most of all the credible recruiting analysts are saying he's one, if not THE best passer in the class.

^^^^^ While he's not technically a guard his minutes are definitely up for grabs because we could easily play a lineup of Brown, Purvis, Graham/Warren which would leave Scott Wood on the bench in all likelihood because Wood isn't the type of player you can go with at PF. (unless we are comfortable with Warren at PF as a freshman, or we really want to go small against someone for matchup reasons). There's no reason to get worked up over "positions". Positions are meaningless in college basketball. The point is Wood plays like a guard. He's perimeter oriented and he doesn't ever get a rebound so his minutes are theoretically up for grabs next season. Now unless Graham/Warren are the 2nd coming there's almost no chance they take many of Wood's minutes. I'd still expect him to play around 30mpg because he's deadly offensively and adequate defensively. Perhaps having some rest during the game will be what he needs to shake off his career long slump in the clutch.[Edited on December 22, 2011 at 1:08 PM. Reason : a]

sometimes i think he fouls out on purpose

Purvis is too dangerous of a scorer to be playing PG and passing it to others. We need the ball in his hands and people setting screens for him.

Lorenzo Brown is one of the top passing, rebounding, and stealing PG's in the entire country right now. On top of that he has an effective shooting % above 50%.There is no fucking way that 365 days from now he is on the bench and some guy who looks borderline unimpressive in HS mixtapes is going to be playing over him.I realize the guy is white and everyone secretly wants him to start but let's try to see through the great racial divide and recognize that one of these players is a star and one of them is not.
12/22/2011 1:17:26 PM
not one person has even hinted at lewis starting over brown
12/22/2011 1:19:29 PM
Wood will lose minutes if he can't contribute other than 3's. It's not like he's a JJ Reddick 3pt shooter either. When his 3pt shot is on lockdown like any top caliber team will be sure of (see Syracuse), he is basically useless as he seems to refuse to develop any sort of game inside the 3pt line. Purvis is a shooting guard. I would expect to see Brown/Lewis at the point, however, Purvis can handle the ball well enough we finally have some depth if someone goes down.
12/22/2011 1:20:29 PM
dude, did you miss the part where I said he'd be playing sparingly? i hope noone thinks lewis is going to take a lot of minutes from brown. i just said he's considered one of the best passers of the 2012 class. he's legit, just going to have to ease into college ball.
12/22/2011 1:20:58 PM

^yep...as recently against st. bonaventure, he drove to the basket twice and got to the line down the stretch.

12/22/2011 1:28:23 PM
and really, i've been pretty happy with wood's conrtibutions this year, even if the majority of it is threes (not happy with his silly fouls though)
12/22/2011 1:28:58 PM
Um back up a page. There have been several people saying Lewis will play quite a bit at PG next year.Im just explaining that there is no room at the inn for baby Lewis. He will have a year or two to learn the position and then if he's good enough he might become an ACC player.Being a good passer means dick if you don't have athleticism and/or scoring ability. It's a basketball not a football. Anyone can pass it. It's not like having Marcus Stone at QB. This is just a little round ball that bounces.

This is one those sports where the other team guards you and tries to prevvent you from scoring. Most of the teams in the ACC (excluding us obviously) don't just move out of the way so that you can pass it to them for a layup. I averaged 2.5 asts in HS as a SG. Know how many I would average in the ACC? Zero. Because I wouldn't see the court. You don't get a lot of assists on the bench, therefore your passing skill isn't ultimately all that important.Rebounds, Defense, Shooting, Scoring, Athleticism. Those are major skills. Passing? It's a complementary skill. By itself, it's not a big deal. It's like having a first baseman that's a really good fielder. Fucking great. He's still not going to play if he can't hit.

^^^^where did I state that, the only thing I've stated is that lewis will be the back up behind brown thus sseeing some minutes. he's definitely not gonna see jaquan minutes next year (i.e. none), probably closer to TDT 5-10[Edited on December 22, 2011 at 1:47 PM. Reason : .]

Kendall Marshall. He's got the 6th highest assist rate in the NCAA this year so he's a top notch passer obviously. He's also surrounded by a supporting cast that's nearly 100% NBA first round picks. Many of whom would have been lottery picks last year if they'd gone pro and shouldn't even still be in college.Other than his spectacular assist numbers he has quite a few things working against him.Low shooting %, low FTA, high turnover rate, supremely low FGA which makes his low shooting % even more questionable, doesn't rebound, doesn't get steals. So my "take" on Marshall is that he's not very good and he's unbelievably overrated. He's a great fit on that team though because he gets the ball to their stars and doesn't waste possessions taking shots he obviously isn't capable of hitting.Remember Ed Cota? He was deemed the greatest PG of all time when he had Jamison, Carter, and Williams around him. Then they all went to the NBA and he went from being ED COTA! to (oh that's ed cota)[Edited on December 22, 2011 at 1:50 PM. Reason : a]

Saps you are saying TDT gets 5-10 minutes. And then saying Lewis will get 10 minutes. The problem is TDT gets like 1-2 minutes per game. And that's probably a lot closer to what Lewis will get than 10.And mean maybe he comes out next year and starts breaking people off all over the place.I just don't see it. 5 mins per game in ACC play. He's just not ready.I find it really hard to believe Lobrone and Purvney are going to be gnawing their cuticles on the bench next year against UNC while Tyler "Honeydrop" Lewis is throwing lobs off the backboard to Calvin Leslie. Sorry, I'm just not buying it.[Edited on December 22, 2011 at 1:56 PM. Reason : a]

TDT was the first name that came to mind in a minutes comparison. I'm saying he'll get 5-10, you're saying he'll get 1-5, either way its a silly thing to argue about. the point is he will see the floor, even if sparingly. we dont have the depth at 1 for him not to play some. and no one said he would start over brown.[Edited on December 22, 2011 at 1:57 PM.
