Unfortunately for us and Tott, Liverpool are for real this year. And Rodgers won't 'fact' it up this time. Top 4 is going to be tough even if we regain form in the second half of the season. But lets see...

I don't dislike Liverpool but I just don't see their defense and midfield keeping up with the top three right now.But a lot of that goes out the window as Suarez keeps Baleing.[Edited on December 17, 2013 at 2:05 PM. Reason : Actually that's underselling Suarez. He is best in world right now]
12/17/2013 2:04:40 PM
Wasn't about LFC.Just saying that it's way too early to "surely" list off the three teams that will finish top 3.

Aguero out for 2 months?

New Suarez contract Madrid will need to come up with Bale money if they want him next summer
12/20/2013 8:43:06 AM
^ Not necessarily. Suarez' form could drop. He won't keep up with this form. Liverpool have played very well but as soon as/if Suarez' form drops I can see pool struggling a bit as well. The start that Suarez has given pool is going to help at the end of the season but its still a long season and I still think pool don't have the required depth for a title challenge. Finish top 4? Its looking likely but how is pool going to respond when/if form drops? Finish top 4 Saurez will stay, don't have Champions League again and will Suarez want to spend another year without champions league at age 27? He will force a move out unless pool finish in the top 4. The contract just gives pool more of a bargaining chip in the worst case scenario.
12/20/2013 8:56:12 AM
I think you should have mentioned the possibility of a drop in form more in that post.I don't get your point in all of that rambling. Longer/bigger contract means higher transfer fee if somebody wants to buy him. You're right, Suarez's FORM will most likely DROP at some point because he is converting chances at an insane rate right now.
12/20/2013 9:08:08 AM
Man this sucks. Suarez is key to Liverpool's top 4/ title chances. Well, here's hoping he does something stupid that gets him banned...
12/20/2013 9:11:25 AM
^^ I already said pool will get a higher transfer fee but it won't be close to $100 million. At the end of the day Suarez will want to leave without top 4. Pool will hold out as long as they can but will eventually have to settle for somewhere between 50-70 million.
12/20/2013 9:27:09 AM
Thanks for that peek into the future. What if his form doesn't drop and he smashes the PL goals record?
12/20/2013 9:31:50 AM
Well in that case pool will probably be title challengers. Also I am clearly giving pool a lot of credit here. I already said dropping out of the top 4 is the worst case scenario for pool right now. I am just questioning the depth that Liverpool has. Its an objective analysis. Out of the top 4 right now, Chelsea, Arsenal, and City have experience in title challenges/top 4 battles. Pool doesn't. Mentality/experience matters when the fixture list piles on. Pool have done well, now they must finish well to make it worth while. There is a reason why a young United side without Scholes was outdone by City three years ago. Hell without RVP that side would have been outdone last year too.
12/20/2013 10:12:51 AM
I agree with you. I still think Liverpool should be on the outside looking in at a top 4 finish right now. But I think with Suarez grabbing all the headlines, it's masking the fact that the team is a lot better than last year. Certain players like Henderson have improved dramatically and Rodgers has shown he's a very capable manager that will mix and change tactics accordingly (unlike AVB). Don't forget they won games without Suarez to start the season, they've continued to win without Sturridge/Coutinho, and now without Gerrard. The team isn't super deep like City but they're not exactly threadbare either.I think this Suarez contract shows some serious commitment from FSG and I wouldn't be surprised if they spent some money in January either.
12/20/2013 10:27:20 AM
^ True. Henderson has had a good few weeks. He put in a great performance against Tottenham too. Rodgers has done well and pool is def confident going into a run of tough fixtures. I have to agree with your point about AVB. Maintaining a high line game with that Tottenham defense without Vertognen was stupid. AVB's tactics I think are good but he can't adapt them. He needs players to adapt to his tactics. It doesn't work when you have a team like Pool who is going to press and a striker like Suarez who will take advantage of a high line. Its also pretty stupid to maintain a high line without a high pressing game. Tottenham let opponents just sit on the ball. Whether that was down to the players or the tactics I guess we will never know. Still believe AVB has a lot of upside. He is learning and maybe he will learn to adapt now.
12/20/2013 11:31:08 AM
Did Suarez refuse to use a black ink pen?
12/20/2013 11:35:39 AM
Good question
12/20/2013 11:56:10 AM
Great job by Liverpool. They did what Arsenal and Spurs wouldn't and told a want-away player to fuck off. Then went out and competed and locked him up...[Edited on December 20, 2013 at 12:19 PM. Reason : i do wonder if there is a legit "no champions leage... fee" clause this time]
12/20/2013 12:17:24 PM
AVB was more adaptable last season. Even then, many of the same problems existed and we got "Baled" out by one of the best individual PL seasons in history. This year it was either his dumbass 4-3-3 or the highway. Apparently he was really pouty because we never signed Hulk, Willian, and Moutinho. Those targets were unrealistic even with the Bale money because of the wage structure. There was no way that was ever going to happen and he needed to get over it. The thing is, by being such a stubborn prick, he essentially fucked himself over now because he's going to end up at a mid-table club at best unless he lucks into the Porto job again. I will not miss him at all. Good riddance, the guy's a fucking asshole.
12/20/2013 2:55:28 PM
12/20/2013 2:57:13 PM
Gary Neville doesn't know shit about what was going on. AVB and Levy are both leaking their stories out now and it definitely seems like AVB was being a huge douche about the whole thing.

Liverpool will go top today but won't be at the turn of the year after away to City and Chelsea.Though Michael Owen did say that Arsenal don't have the class of player Liverpool has and Ozil is inconsistent (to be fair, Ozil has been a slight disappointment).[Edited on December 21, 2013 at 7:33 AM. Reason : on a related note, why are there so many pundits who are ex-pool?]
