alright, finally around an actual computer and not my phone... what the fuck happened against Wake?? and god dammit, this isnt trolling. I wasnt able to watch the game, couldnt even really get score updates either. And yes, I am going to look around for stories on the game too as soon as I post this, but also want to know from my brethren

Jaybee,We came out flat and let WF march down the field for a quick score. It took until the 3rd quarter for our offense to show up, and the D never really showed up. We made their QB look like much better than he really is.
9/11/2011 1:01:20 PM
thank you... did they consistently drive down the field each possession? random big plays?
9/11/2011 1:03:16 PM
Wake burned our D because we got almost no pressure on their QB. First half offensively we were being cautious and didn't put up anything outside of fieldgoals.
9/11/2011 1:03:27 PM
They ran 2 reverses for decent gains (maybe 15 yards). And they ran a reverse where the WR passed for a TD...but their drives were mostly pretty consistent. Our secondary looked poor. We got to the QB a couple of times but he was pretty good at moving up in the pocket and making smart throws. I think he completed his first 8 or 9 passes against us
9/11/2011 1:12:49 PM
When you're down by a load (as we were) and you're going for massively deep passes on 4th down (like Glennon did) solely because you're holding on to that tiny slight hope in hell that you'll come up with the big play and the defense (for some reason) doesn't cover their backfield properly (which happened), that's a lucky play. The announcers were bad but they said, "That shound NOT happen on 4th down." That's absolutely right. We got lucky that they weren't provided proper coverage and we turned it into a huge play. I'm not trying to take anything away from Glennon and Palmer, because they made a good play there, but it was more on the fault on the WF defense than on them, I think. Or at the very least, 50/50, and 50% isn't enough to win football games.
9/11/2011 1:21:49 PM
4th and long you shut down the underneath routes that would produce a 1st down. Wake blitzed and got pressure to Glennon. He just happened to get the ball over the coverage to the fastest player on the field.
9/11/2011 1:32:58 PM
Yeah, Glennon was almost sacked on that play. He made a good play to get rid of the ball quickly and found an open receiver.
9/11/2011 1:48:07 PM
^^^ However the other deep pass that "doesn't cout" was on 1st down so yet again you are wrong.
9/11/2011 1:50:01 PM
actually, 50% is enough to win football games. I loved watching baylor and michigan play because they were just launching it downfield and hoping their wr made the play. For michigan, even though it was 50/50 with picks, thats still a good gameplan because if they pick it off, o well, it was like a punt and if you score 50% of the time you will have at least 40 something points.
9/11/2011 1:52:38 PM
Just thought I'd mention that the RBs seemed to perform very well in pass blocking yesterday. It may just be selective memory but I recall multiple attackers and blitzes getting picked up by the RBs.[Edited on September 11, 2011 at 2:38 PM. Reason : ]

For as bad as we played for 3 quarters, we could have stolen a W if George Bryan could consistently catch balls. I have a feeling that is going to be a problem all year, because we're likely going to be throwing to him a lot with Glennon at QB.And if it weren't for some ballsy playcalling by WF, we could have gone into half within striking distance. For all of the problems we showed, most of them look correctable and this could be a decent season........err, I mean, 000oohhh knoes. Falling skyzeee!!1

If you guys want to delude yourself, that's fine with me. 22/39 for 187 yards is far from "an impressive game." My point with the previous posts was to say that Glennon only took the chances to throw those bombs because we were down by so much. Yes, they were good passes, but we would have never made those plays with Bible's conservative playcalling if we hadn't been down by so much. We got lucky. If you remove the 65-yard and 63-yard passes from his statistics for the game, you'll see that he did NOT play as good of a game as you think. Just because you make two huge bomb plays doesn't make your ENTIRE GAME a good game. Is that clear?I agree that 24/41 for 315 sounds like a fairly good game (bad completion percentage, but 315 yards is huge), but this is the reason why so many people who know what they're talking about say that statistics lie. I understand that people are trying to find the positive in yesterday's loss. There is some positive there. Glennon does have a good arm. Palmer and Graham are great receivers. We have some potential with this team, but there's a lot of work to be done.

^^You can edit any QBs numbers to take out the big plays and make his numbers look average. I do agree that this team has a lot of work to do...hopefully we'll see some improvement in the next few games.[Edited on September 11, 2011 at 4:51 PM. Reason : ]

I'm not "taking away plays" dumbass, I'm just pointing out that if you're going to call it a "good game" you need to take everything into account. Stats lie and a few good plays does not a good game make.[Edited on September 11, 2011 at 5:00 PM. Reason : .]

9/11/2011 5:02:44 PM
I don't understand why you want to not consider those plays? The 4th down pass, Wake blitzed and pressured Glennon. He had to get rid of the ball quickly and he did just that...found an open man for a TD. What about that is fluky? In fact, that was a good play by Glennon to stand in there with the pressure and deliver the ball. [Edited on September 11, 2011 at 5:05 PM. Reason : ]

If you take away Mike Glennon and bring back Russell Wilson we lose 30-26 and not 34-27LOL OH WAIT THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN 2009 PWNT

^^In the first half we didn't throw downfield at all. I'm assuming that was playcalling. Once we got down by 14 we started looking downfield. Glennon had a lot more success doing so. I still wouldn't call those 2 plays lucky...maybe they were outliers when you look at all of the completed passes, but I'm not sure I'd call them "lucky". But, if you're going to take out those 2 TD passes, you have to add in George Bryan's 2 drops, as well as Mario Carter's drop on 3rd down when we ended up settling for a FG (I think).[Edited on September 11, 2011 at 5:15 PM. Cam Newton's bomb to Steve Smith doesn't count...that was all luck.Carolina should be losing 7-0!
9/11/2011 5:18:54 PM
Watching Bryan drop those passes while wearing my #84 jersey was really frustrating. He's better than that.
9/11/2011 5:19:15 PM
We need Bryan to pick it up...I'm not sure what the problem is, but he needs to be more reliable than he has been so far. Although his 1 handed catch was pretty nice. Still, no excuse for the drops.
9/11/2011 5:20:56 PM
One thing about Glennon on timing routes is that obviously Glennon knows what he's doing and the ball gets there, but GB is expecting those RW floaters. The two passes he caught yesterday were like the old lob-style that RW threw, and that's gotta get corrected. Glennon will also get to the point where he doesn't have to rifle it in every time. there was an inside slant pattern that Rashard Smith had yesterday where the ball was just thrown too hard
9/11/2011 6:18:16 PM
Nah I disagree. I think wilsons lobs were usually deep balls to williams and spencer while bryan made his living off of plays near the goal line where wilson would scramble and bullet it to him in traffic. the balls would be so fast into traffic that from tv you would be like wtf is he doing and bryan would fall in the back of the endzone and have the ball.[Edited on September 11, 2011 at 6:22 PM. Reason : bryan is just dropping easy passes]
9/11/2011 6:22:32 PM
^I agree...there's no excuse for those drops.
9/11/2011 6:25:39 PM
he also had an incredible catch and went for 40yds on 3 catches.[Edited on September 11, 2011 at 7:25 PM. Reason : and a TD, but yeah, he's missed a few easy ones]
9/11/2011 7:25:03 PM
in conclusion. we are a few drops away, and a few def line healthy players away from a pretty fun team to watch. We'll play competitive against any team in the league. Oh and a beast of a rb coming back to boot
9/11/2011 7:46:32 PM
In conclusion we suck as usual
9/11/2011 8:02:12 PM
9/11/2011 8:16:44 PM
I think by now, George Bryan shouldn't still be expecting RW "floaters". He and MG have been playing pass and catch all year already, plus the past couple spring games. Dumb excuse.[Edited on September 11, 2011 at 8:30 PM. Reason : .]
