eh, called ATT and got $15 knocked off my bill for the next 6 months. also got free HBO/Cinemax (was paying for just HBO) for 3 months so decent savings.i'll call back in 6 and try again

With U-Verse I think my bill was $138/month after all the taxes and fees. With TWC my bill is down to $102/month, but I picked up some nice services.- HD channels (I did not have them with UVerse).- Home phone (I did not have this with UVerse). The only drawback is that I only have one DVR now and one regular receiver whereas I had two DVRs with Uverse. Not a bad net savings at all. I'm no TWC fan, but I can see myself sticking with them until they start messing with the pricing again.
3/20/2012 10:52:57 AM
what i don't understand about U-Verse is how they can charge $39/month for an internet service that is capped at 3MB down.
3/20/2012 11:35:15 AM
If anyone is about to sign up for uVerse let me refer you and I'll give some of the referral $ back to ya
4/9/2012 10:46:38 AM
so, is uverse and centurylink the same thing? their DVR interface and channel lineups look the same

So my U300 tv and 12 mbps interwebs deal expired yesterday (6 mo. promo), which means my next bill, for TV and internet only, will be $151+taxes. Screw that, I said. So I called to reduce my service to the next lower tier TV and the lowest internet, which would reduce my bill by a lovely $20 to $131/mo (since I would keep HD and dvr). Not a lot of savings for a pretty big service reduction.Anyone had success with calling and threatening to cancel so they put you back on a promo?I guess my other option is to cancel, sign up with TWC for a year then play the game then?No I have not read most of this thread. Thanks
8/20/2012 6:06:45 PM
I got u200 and 12mbps for $100 I think, plus the free HBO/cinemasI had u450 and 12mbps for 150 after my deal expiredJust fiddle around with the online ordering
8/20/2012 7:53:52 PM
It depends on what mood the marketing people are in. for a year I'd call up occasionally threatening to leave, they never had anything to offer but free upgrades. One day I called up not to threaten to leave but merely to return an excess receiver we weren't using, wound up reducing the bill by $50 a month. That was four months ago I think.

Is there a time delay/difference between wired and wireless boxes? For the Superbowl I plan on setting up a second TV in the same room as my main TV (running off the single DVR hooked into router by wired ethernet) with a wireless box. Will the TV on the wireless receiver lag the main TV hooked up to the DVR?
1/29/2013 1:11:42 PM
i know the HD is delayed a bit vs. the standard SDit would surprise me if both boxes were in sync
1/29/2013 1:48:47 PM
I've got one report that it is like a half-second or less. If that's true I can deal with it. Maybe I can have the wireless one playing live, and start the main TV a half second or whatever behind

TWC GOT DAT 190% HIGH SPEED
1/29/2013 9:15:30 PM
Gonna miss my TWC internet, getting shitty fucking shit slow throttled ATT internet tomorrow. In other news I get a cable box for my bedroom and basement and whole house DVR.
3/18/2013 7:42:47 PM
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
3/19/2013 11:42:42 AM
I received a thing from ATT saying I have a 250gb data cap with overage charges. I have no idea how much data I use. We have two Netflix players, and I listen to Pandora all day while working, and use bit torrent on occasion but don't leave it running. I am trying to get in to my TWC account to see what my data usage was before, but cant figure out the password.
3/27/2013 11:21:03 AM
you sure bitch a lot
3/27/2013 11:56:21 AM
^Damn you must use a ton of data.In other news, I started a chat session about some bullshit $30 charge that appeared on my uVerse bill...just wanted to get it removed/credited. Don't know if there was a language issue or whatever, but the agent went with "let me check if any promotions are available in your area" then said they found one for $42 off for the next 12 months. I didn't believe it at the time, but sure enough there it is on my account. So now we pay $112 + tax for:U300 (includes Showtime/STARZ/ENCORE/TMC/FLIX)HBO/Cinemax (free under 3 month promotion)1 DVR, 2 DVR receiversHD Service12Mbps Internet (under $5 off for 6 month promotion)]
3/27/2013 12:48:14 PM
what was the $30 charge?
3/27/2013 12:52:09 PM
Actually it might not have been complete bullshit. It was $26 for HBO/Cinemax, but I toggle that every 3 months, well before the cut off date, so in theory it should never appear on my bill. Pretty sure that's what I was contacting them about...

3/27/2013 1:37:34 PM
I love uVerse. Pretty much every interaction when them has gone wonderfully (direct opposite of TWC), and yeah their actual cable/internet service is exceptional.
3/27/2013 1:55:57 PM
I love this DVR system. I really think the picture is better on ATT too. Is that possible?
3/27/2013 2:05:07 PM
Anything is possible. But yeah, it's possible depending on the quality of the transmission lines from your old service and your new service. Our UVerse has been exceptional, but there was a period where the receiver was screwing up and messing up the packets/image on all shows and recordings until I reset it.
3/27/2013 2:10:00 PM
So what are the comparisons to DirecTV price and selection wise?Uverse just became available in my area and I'm curious. I already have AT&T for my internet and its pretty solid.
3/27/2013 3:12:34 PM
I loved Uverse when I had it; though AT&T's billing practices/department are shit (I have AT&T DSL and my bill kept rising every month and it never even started on the correct price). I have DirectTV now and love it. AT&T Uverse is probably going to be cheaper in most cases, especially since with DirectTV you need to order internet on its own. My bill for TV + internet should be about $90/month for year 1. In year 2 I'm guessing more like $120-$140.

3/27/2013 3:29:09 PM
Yeh, the contract sucks, but I didn't have to pay for equipment...I have two choices where I am: satellite or TWC... I hate TWC with a passion so the choice was easy. And I did have some problems with Uverse billing. Well, I wasn't the account holder, but we had problems for the first 6 months: AT&T wasn't giving us the promotions we were told about when we signed up. A complaint to the BBB and FCC corrected that... but it was a lot of effort just to get what we were told. The second problem was after I had moved out. My former roommate was the account holder and when he moved out he closed the account. Apparently, there was still a balance left on the account and AT&T started hounding me multiple times a day for several weeks about paying the bill. Another BBB complaint handled that, but again, too much effort on my part was required.
3/27/2013 3:33:34 PM
Normally you get a ton of free shit with Directv if you're signing up for the first time or re-signing a contract. Although I'm liking what I hear about their new DVR system (one main receiver can record on all of the other receivers). So I'm getting close to either upgrading or resigning up with Directv or getting Uverse. Directv's HBO/Showtime package costs an arm and a leg...so I want to see what Uverse has to offer and I might switch.
3/27/2013 3:48:30 PM
It looks like I was billed a $49 activation fee that was not disclosed when I signed up for service.
3/27/2013 9:23:28 PM
If you call up and bitch enough, they will drop that $49 activation fee.
3/29/2013 6:58:46 PM
they included installation & modem fees on my first bill that they said they would drop. I called and it was fixed in 5 minutes. now i've got that sweet $29.95/mo 12/6 internet for two years guaranteed.
3/31/2013 11:45:02 PM
I called them the other day, having been a loyal U-Verse customer for several years now, to see if I could add TV back. I had U200 for about a year a couple years ago and cancelled it, but kept the 12/1.5 internet. They have a promo right now for $64 for U200 + 6/1 internet. I called to get that bundle, plus HD, and planned on paying the difference for higher speed internet. The best they would offer me is $30 off TV per month, which brings the total to nearly $100 for the package.Anyone threatened to cancel and gotten any good price reductions out of them lately? I didn't have time to argue with them the other day but if there are some good retention price drops I'll plan to spend some time on the phone with them tomorrow.
4/4/2013 9:44:46 PM
Gave them a call today and got a pretty good deal for 12 months. I used the "TWC rep came to my door with $60 / month pricing" story (which is true, he did so about 6 months ago but I lost his card). So I got:$40 off U300Free HD ($10 off)Free DVR / receiver ($7 off)$16 off 12M InternetNo activation fee ($49)$100 cash backAll my promos had expired, so I was already paying $53 / month for just 12M Internet. Bill only went up $33 to add U300 HD

My wife and I live in DC and are considering moving back to the Raleigh area. I was looking an ISPs because I work from home and require good internet service. I though U-verse was comparable to Fios (which I love), but it seems to be more expensive for an inferior product. I'll miss Fios when we do move.[Edited on August 8, 2013 at 4:13 PM. Reason : asdf]
8/8/2013 4:03:39 PM
Believe me, we all wish we had FIOS. Out of curiousity, what do you pay for what speeds?
8/8/2013 4:36:54 PM
$55 (part of a bundle) for 75 down / 35 up
8/8/2013 4:41:40 PM
How much would that be on its own?
8/8/2013 4:47:12 PM
$70 it looks like
8/8/2013 4:57:06 PM
holy christ. i pay $45 for like 7 down. and that's with a discount.i'm thankful i don't require huge bandwidth at home as i rarely do more than download, browse, and stream.
8/9/2013 8:27:21 AM
I can't seem to find anything on the internet talking about a tier re-shuffle, but my 18mbps U-Verse connection speed was upgraded two weeks ago. The U-Verse web-site still lists me on the 18mbps plan.
9/30/2013 2:24:02 PM
So a friend of mine has Direct-TV, and a Samsung LCD TV (Ln46c630k1f). I have U-verse, and a 60" Mitsubishi DLP.I've noticed the quality of her picture is much better than mine. I'd imagine some of that is due to my TV being shitty, and hers not...but could some of it be explained by Direct having a better signal/picture quality than my U-verse, or is it probably just the TV?
10/28/2013 2:26:42 PM
I don't know if this is still true, but DirecTVs compression on HD signals is pretty light compared to other companies. I've had the same TV on TWC and DirecTV and you can tell a huge difference in the same HD channel between the two (with DirecTVs being much crisper/better). Now part of the deal is your TV as well, but you already know that's a factor.I think if you had an OTA signal to compare with, you'd seen an even better picture on a good OTA signal than you can see on DirecTV, UVerse, TWC, or any others.
