^ In your case, I'd say to put them into gun cases with at least one lock on it. If pulled over, it's obvious that its difficult to get the pistol out. With it being a trunk, unless you have a tool box, I'd keep it in the cab as well. But check the laws of the states you're driving through. Never know, one may require ammo to be in it's own separate locked case.[Edited on November 28, 2008 at 11:37 AM. Reason : cab]

Just let me know if i missed this earlier in the thread, but has anyone in here shot the ruger LCP?It is cheap, and appears on paper to be just what I am looking for, just want to hear some opinions before i expend too much energy to try to track one down to hold/possibly fire...looking for a concealable, affordable sidearm, and something to keep near the bed at night(although that last one is basically of very little concern to me)also maybe something i can teach the gf to shoot, as she has shown a little interest, but i only have long gunsEdit: Hurley told me about a recall issue they were having(if i am thinking of the correct gun), and what serial numbers to watch out for, so I am at least aware of that.[Edited on November 30, 2008 at 10:44 AM. The LCP is a great little gun, but there is the recall issue. I would personally wait a little bit before I picked one up.You can also look at the Beretta Tomcat. It is a .32 IIRC. My dad just picked one up, but I haven't been home to play with it.

$600-1000 depending on the condition. They have quite a following. Check http://www.gunbroker.com/ for a similar one to get true market value.

^ lol yeah I know but the thing is I am not really wanting to get rid of these it is more of I probably should get rid of them kind of thing so if someone is willing to buy them I am willing to sell them. If they do sell I will be happy but if not I have an AR-15 and an AR-10 so I am still happy

There is an OC gtg in the works at http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum41/18955.htmlCheck it out, and feel free to contribute ideas to me or on that board.

Open carry is a city ordinance violation (or somekind of violation) or at least it was 2 years ago. Might want to call down there and check.
12/1/2008 1:40:57 AM
^I assume you're talking about Cary? I'd actually like to see the ordinance. I've heard that before but I've never been able to find anything other than Chapel Hill having one. I used to OC in Cary quite often when I was living on the Raleigh/Cary border (before I had my CCP) & never had any issues (not that that means there isn't one). ^^ Good luck with that. If I was closer, I'd plan on attending it. The more often people see normal people carrying, the better.
12/1/2008 7:40:48 AM
^^OC is a violation of city ordinance if you OC on Cary Property. Shopping centers, restaurants, and roads don't apply. I just can't walk on the sidewalk down Walnut while I OC. I haven't heard of anyone being hassled about it though.I OC in carry an have never had a problem, and minimal strange looks.[Edited on December 1, 2008 at 9:55 AM. Reason : .]

does anyone know if the kmart on western sells universal cleaning kits (or anything worthwhile for that matter)- I don't feel like driving out to dicks or walmart
12/1/2008 3:17:42 PM
They sold them 3 years ago when I was at state. What are you cleaning?IMO you should buy better quality rods from somewhere else. Either solid stainless, coated stainless, or composite. The joints in the universal kits or other multi piece rods can eat up your bore if you're not careful. In a shotgun the bore will be so big it'll clear the multi piece rods and it isn't an issue. Also, better rods have better bushings or bearings that allow the rod to spin more freely to accomodate the rifling. All other parts, jags, brushes, etc, are fine from the cheaper manufacturers.
12/1/2008 3:25:36 PM
i've also heard some say that aluminum cleaning rods tend to pick up and allow abrasive particles to be embedded, then scratch the bore with them.
12/1/2008 4:09:32 PM
well alright- how much should a SS or composite rod set cost me (and where should I go to pick one of these up?)the reason i wanted universal is because i have a 12ga that I need to clean, and I don't want to get two sets if I can avoid it, as I also need to pick one up for my 9mm I just got- it has a 4" barrel on it (I believe it is 4"- might be 3.5)
12/1/2008 4:29:48 PM
Boresnake it and be done with it.Speaking of dirty guns, I bought some .44 MAG from them at the show. Shot 24 rounds of it today. Filthy, dirty stuff. It looked as if I was shooting a black powder rifle with the 6 ft plume of brown smoke that flew out of the barrel every shot. On a good note the stuff seems just as accurate as everything else I have shot through it (Speer,Federal,Federal,Blazer). For $20 for 50 rounds I guess there had to be a catch. 12/2/2008 9:59:28 AM
what's a c model?
12/2/2008 5:55:56 PM
Compensated. It is a ported model that vents gas from the top to help reduce muzzle flip.
12/2/2008 6:36:55 PM
orly- is this something that a gunsmith could do to any pistol? and how does it affect final muzzle velocity? what kind of pistol do you have it on?
12/2/2008 9:15:46 PM
I have a Glock 23C.From what I have read, with a Winchester White Box FMJ muzzle velocity for a G23 is about 1100fps and a G23C is about 1020fps. I have not had a chance to verify this at all though.A lot of aftermarket pistol companies offer ported/ compensated barrels for a range of guns. This way you do not need to modify the slide. I'm sure gun smiths chould modify most weapons to be compensated, but a barrel swap is fully reversible.
12/2/2008 9:49:04 PM
The model "C" is great for ranges...but it does have it's major drawbacks. Most people who are simply range guys, see the model "C" say its a great idea, without giving it much thought. People see the reduced muzzle flip and are quick to judge. The big downside to the model "C" is night blindness. If you ever need to use this firearm for any reason, and it happens to be dark...after your first shot, you can't see shit. The same compensated feature (two portes on the sides of the barrel) direct gas and muzzle blast back in your direction, blinding you after your first shot. Your eyes can't adjust in the dark. If you don't carry this gun as your primary weapon, its a great gun, but if you do, you might want to think twice. See pic in my gallery...[Edited on December 3, 2008 at 2:21 PM. ^^ and just think of the results of any close-quarters confrontation
12/3/2008 2:43:05 PM
Night Blindness is a myth. The flash happens too quickly, and not in the color ranges that will really screw with your eyes. You might notice a very slight difference, but it is nothing like what people describe when they are guessing. Also, on a glock, the port direction directs muzzle gas up and out, toward the front of the weapon. Some also say that you can burn yourself and have fragments thrown at you. This has also not been confirmed. There have been some reports of problems, but this is the case with absolutely everything.I do agree that there is not much difference, but I will be purchasing a non-ported barrel to check.[Edited on December 3, 2008 at 2:53 PM. Reason : .]
12/3/2008 2:52:24 PM
Well, I will personally confirm the night blindness...talk to the guys at PDHSC and they will confirm as well. http://forums.officer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25569check out this video....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE_cz56HSRMif you are telling me those "little flames" don't cause night blindness, you need a lesson on what night blindness is.
12/3/2008 3:28:16 PM
Neither of those links confirm anything, and the second video isn't even related. The first link is of people saying 'its terrible' with no evidence, and the second is a full auto.
12/3/2008 4:00:40 PM
^^ I dont value a word anyone tells me in a gun store
12/3/2008 4:33:10 PM
I dont think a few ports on top of the barrel will add a significant amount of flash, considering the fireball coming out of the muzzle.
12/3/2008 4:41:52 PM
I've shot guns at night and ported guns aren't much brighter than non-ported.Either will blind you temporarily.Yall should consider the powder used in premium personal defense ammo.A good low flash load in a ported gun will blind you less than a high flash load in a non ported gun.I personally wouldn't buy a ported gun for self defense, but at the same time if the gun I wanted only came ported then it wouldn't be a big deal. The burning gases thing is overrated. If you're in a gunfight you'd be so hopped up on adrenaline that you wouldn't notice some hot gas. Think of when you're hunting. After most shoot a deer they'll say they didn't even notice the recoil and sound. That's just imo.

Ordered some stuff from LaRue tactical the other day and they sent me one of these for free with my order."Tactical Beverage Entry Tool"Probably one of the coolest freebies I've ever received.

Cant you keep your night vision by closing one eye during a flash of light? I swear I read in some war book that soldiers would close one eye when a flare went up in order to maintain their night vision. On another note, does anyone have any info on the ruger p95 or the sr9? I have a friend that is willing to sell me the p95 for $250 and it has only had one clip shot through it, but I have really had my eye on the sr9 in olive drab.
12/4/2008 1:41:04 AM
You can. Comma however. You'll probably close your non-dominant eye, meaning your dominant eye will lose its night vision. Unless you train extensively for this, your brain will superimpose the image of the flash in your dominant eye over your uninterrupted non-dominant eye. I can be better than nothing, but you get better results from carefully choosing your carry ammo.
12/4/2008 7:19:11 AM
I should have clarified my statement on "night blindness is a myth". I was specifically referring to the the effects of a ported hand gun.Awesome bottle opener as well

Who has recommendations for a lever action? I'm debating between a BLR and a Marlin. I like the wider range of cartridges for the BLR, but I was wondering how it handled in the woods, especially dense(ish) woods and mountains. Any and all opinions are welcome.
12/6/2008 5:30:56 PM
both would be great choices, the BLR comes in some non lever style calibers and is available in a takedown version. Marlins are rock solid rifles as well. an old buddy handloaded .45-70 for his 1895 with good results, big ass bullet flying pretty quick= big hole in a deer.
12/6/2008 8:40:19 PM
I'm seriously looking at an XD-M 9mm, anyone pick one up? other thoughts? I wish it were a bit smaller, but I dont plan on carrying it.
12/6/2008 10:29:30 PM
I love my Marlin 336cs. I bought it used at a pawn shop on a whim for $140 and the very first shot i took with it I killed a deer. Also cut down a tree with it for fun at around 40 yards with two shots. Both activities were in the woods of the mountains in Allegheny Co, northwest of sparta. Great gun for that sort of setting. And a blast to shoot.
