^haven't had that happen yet, just make sure to watch the tasks while you're multitasking. I'm able to wirelessly listen to music, browse the web with multiple tabs, IM, and various other things all at the same time. Trying to upgrade to 6.1, so hopefully that won't brick my phone. Supposed to speed everything up.

^I have a smartphone with 3G, not a blackberry. So you can't even use the iphone as a modem? Even with edge? You're able to type on your iphone in the car without looking? I'm impressed.[Edited on March 21, 2008 at 4:39 PM. Reason : .]
3/21/2008 4:38:09 PM
nah can't use it as a modem at all as of now, i'm sure software will be developed to do that--but so far it hasn't been done.i'm assuming a treo? i had one of them + pda.net for a while and i agree it's a great setup in places with 3G. I wish 3G weren't so limited in coverage though.can i type 100% perfect all the time without glancing at the screen occasionally? no... but I can glance at it every few words while typing with one hand. that's about the best you can expect from an all touch screen phone, imo[Edited on March 21, 2008 at 4:41 PM. ^got a pantech duo w/ windows mobile 6, and pdaNET works GREAT. Has a qwerty slider, AND a numeric pad slider. Just need to get a laptop w/ bluetooth now so i can have a wireless modem.
3/21/2008 4:45:38 PM
yea i never could get that to work very well on mine...i only tried once or twice tho and said screw it and just left it connected with the wire.now once the iphones have 3G and tethering they'll be awesome
3/21/2008 4:49:44 PM
^indeed, that, stereo bluetooth, and expansion card support.
3/21/2008 5:06:01 PM
ehhe, they'll never have expansion card support... but yea, the rest would be good
3/21/2008 5:25:23 PM
I'm sitting here in store as the mrs shops. Thank god for my iphone. 3g will be nice to have of course but if Tww would get rid of the darn massive ads I wouldn't need it.

well fuckin a, I'm happy as hell to be wrong on this one!
3/22/2008 7:30:22 PM
Just bought two of these. Supposedly it adds tactile response to your keyboard without hindering the touchscreen or the viewing. It's probably a piece of crap but the youtube video makes it look halfway decent and it's only $8 for 2 of them.http://www.mytouchkeys.com/]

Company I work for is trying to give me a Blackberry...I think I might be able to talk them into an iPhone though if I wanted it.What do you guys recommend? We use Lotus Notes extensively at work...is the iPhone even an option?
3/26/2008 6:51:27 PM
3/26/2008 8:48:29 PM
you could always have imap set up w/ notes, couldn't you?

El nacho let us know how that works, looks to be a good idea

2.0 might bring some form of exchange support (though i doubt it will be anywhere as good as RIMs), but i don't see it adding an actual keyboard or full domino support.i have [and love] an iphone, but its not an enterprise device.]
3/26/2008 10:34:20 PM
tnezami I'd recommend a blackberry over an iPhone for enterprise applications. I love my iPhone but a blackberry is just better suited for corporate email environments.
3/27/2008 7:17:53 AM
Yeah, I just think the iPhones are freakin sweet!I guess i'll give in and get a Blackberry Pearl or something. What's the sweetest Blackberry (phone, not food) that I can get?
3/27/2008 8:47:01 AM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_BlackBerry_Models is a good reference of features.I recommend the 8820.I've also heard rumors that the new one coming out (9000 series I THINK) will have 3G.. but for now I'd go with the 8820.[Edited on March 27, 2008 at 8:52 AM. We can choose between Verizon or AT&T
3/27/2008 9:08:51 AM
Well then 8820 for cingular (GSM) or 8830 for verizon (CDMA)Where are you typically going to be? Any overseas traveling?

I got my mom and iPhone and was wondering how you guys transfered your contacts from a previous att phone to the iphone? when you try to send the address book via bluetooth, it doesn't accept it on the iphone.I read online that you have to go to a att store and they will transfer it on to a flash drive and you can convert the file online and send it that way?secondly, did any of you sync road runner email with your iphone?I selected Pop email, and then entered in the following info and it says, "Cannot Connect Using SSL" and asks if i want to try without it, ive tried yes and no, and neither works.Incoming mail server (POP): pop-server.nc.rr.comOutgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp-server.nc.rr.comany suggestions?
3/27/2008 9:31:26 AM
Works fine on my roadrunner business account... I don't remember having do anything out of the ordinary. Personally I'd just have it fwd to a gmail account that supports IMAP, way more convenient than POP... and less problems from google in my experience. As far as transferring contacts.. I was syncing my old phone with Outlook and the iPhone syncs fine with Outlook so all my contacts went right in no problem. What kind of phone did you use to have? If you have any type of data cable or bluetooth on your computer see if you can send it to your computer and import it in outlook. Sync iphone and select to sync contacts with outlook, it'll ask whether to merge new and old contacts or replace--I always use merge.
3/27/2008 9:36:11 AM
im transfering from a samsung sync, its my moms, so she never synced anything with a computerIm reading online that many people are having issues with road runner email, some people are saying that road runner has a different outgoing server address for iphones?Might have to call up apple and figure this out
3/27/2008 9:40:13 AM
Everything I'm reading says that they have no problems sending on a wireless router that uses roadrunner but some are having trouble over EDGE... It is possible RR won't let you use their outgoing email servers unless you are accessing the internet through them. I highly doubt RR had a separate server just for iPhones--a separate server for people sending from outside of their network, maybe.[Edited on March 27, 2008 at 9:46 AM. Reason : is there anyway you could sync it with outlook? that'd be an easy way to do the contacts]
3/27/2008 9:46:11 AM
yeah, ill take care of the contacts, but im having the same issues as the ones mentioned here...http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1288908&tstart=60I tried the 587 trick to no avail
3/27/2008 9:47:57 AM
I'm assuming you are in fact using your entire email address for username?? That was something a lot of ppl here at work messed up on at first.. I'll keep reading though hold on
3/27/2008 9:49:34 AM
i tried both, using just the username, and then using the whole email address, neither one worked appreciate the help man
3/27/2008 9:52:12 AM
to send mail using edge you have to use at&t's smtp server cwmx.com set as the smtp server. iirc you won't be able to send mail over wi-fi if you use this setting, but thats the trade off for sending mail over edge. if i'm wrong on that somebody let me knowfor the address book the only thing you'll be able to do is to sync the samsung phone with outlook, then sync your iphone with outlook. i'm sure theres some samsung program which will sync the phones contacts with outlook, just do some research and find it.i was able to get my sister's iphone working with her road runner email...but i remember there was some hang up and it took me like an hour for some reason. i think i just kept trying it and it finally worked. here's some threads on it that it doesn't sound like you've seen yet:http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=apple&thread.id=1968http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=342258http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/iphone/roadrunner-email-from-iphone-3331.html]
3/27/2008 10:02:04 AM
A lot of people are claiming they've used RR's server over EDGE fine... but you could be correct. I personally have sent mail fine on both wifi and edge over roadrunners BUSINESS class servers, I am not sure of the security policies of the residential servers though.[Edited on March 27, 2008 at 10:09 AM. Reason : but I still prefer forwarding all mail to a gmail account and using IMAP that way.. ]
3/27/2008 10:08:24 AM
Yeah, I will be traveling overseas...mainly to Germany once or twice a year.
3/27/2008 10:11:00 AM

3/27/2008 10:13:10 AM
^ both phones do gsmthe 8300 also accepts a sim card, and comes unlocked...in fact the two bands it does is 900/1800 which are the bands you'll want for travelling overseas.http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/rim-blackberry-8830-black/4505-6452_7-32513041.htmlthe 8820 has two additional bands, 850mhz and 1900MHz which are used in north america]

Well I just got an iPhone, and I dont have the best luck when it comes to dropping phones so I need to get a case. I like the 'Incase' slip on cover, but i refuse to pay $33 at best buy for a freaking phone condom without a screen protecter. I know some of you have these, so where did you get your cases? which one did you get? and how well do you like the case? Thanks
3/28/2008 4:02:47 PM
i got the incase hard plastic one...called a slider. great case. and any decent quality case is gonna be $30+you can get the silicone ones for $10 or less if you don't mind that tho. i couldnt stand them, cant slide it in/out of your pocket easily

What does 3G mean?i have a razr from motorola, is it 3G? I'm guessing this refers to file formats .3g and .3gp?why in the world didn't they make the iphone 3g compatible in the first place?
3/29/2008 11:54:14 AM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_Data_Rates_for_GSM_Evolution read this.. its basically a high speed data standardthey didnt put it in originally because a. they didnt have a way of doing it that didnt destroy the phones battery life (or so they say) and b. because now they can sell all the apple people the same phone twice.. apple always does thisand no it has nothing to do with whatever file formats you posteddepends on the model razr, I think some of the newer ones are 3G but I'm not real sure[Edited on March 29, 2008 at 1:01 PM.
