seems like they giveaway 75% of the next show with the previews. the next one will have jin speaking english/sawyer, jin, and mike walking with the others/hurley lying to charlie. also it seemed really weird the way jin said something about "this changes things forever" as if he was faking the entire time, not knowing english, and with the others all along. but that seems like a stretch.anyone think that the people who caught mike, jin, and sawyer are not the others or that they are the others?

turn of the screw is significant and you would realize that if you had read itthe other book has a lot of stuff from the show too[Edited on October 8, 2005 at 11:29 PM. Reason : i already brought them up though right after they were shown]

JUST BECAUSE THEY CHOSE BOOKS THAT HAD PLOT ELEMENTS IN COMMON WITH THE SHOW DOESNT MAKE THE BOOKS A PLOT ELEMENT IN THE SHOWHOW IS THAT HARD TO UNDERSTAND?
10/9/2005 12:46:27 AM
i dont think they happened to find books that had something in common with the show, they are putting in books that influenced them in making the show, doesnt mean they are plot elements, but they may give you clues as to what the fuck is going on. how is that hard to understand[Edited on October 9, 2005 at 12:49 AM. Reason : $$$]
10/9/2005 12:49:14 AM
well no shit they picked books that had something in common, didnt i just say that? the whole point of them leaving the camera on the books long enough to read the title is to spark more interest in the show. now people are going to delve into the books and think up even more crackpot theories which will make them that much more rabid for the next show and that much more willing to accept that the next show wont actually answer many questions.i mean they have to show books on a bookshelf, of course they show books that are significant to the writers of the show in whatever way. perhaps they are intended to give some insight into the personality of the person/persons in the hole but they are not intended to have a major effect on the plot to the depth of which some you seem to try to make it.
10/9/2005 12:53:50 AM
the whole point of my post was that i think they DID NOT just pick books that had something in common, i think these books influenced them before hand, re-read my post

Merchandising! Merchandising! Where the real money from the show is made. LOST: the T-shirt, LOST: the coloring book, LOST: the lunch box, LOST: the breakfast cereal, LOST: the flamethrower--the kids love this one--last but not least, LOST: the doll.

I don't know why some of you think that the "others" are the people from the back of the plane.Remember, Ethan wasn't on the plane's manifest. Some of you are saying he is one of the "others." So if Ethan wasn't on the list, then the "others" aren't going to be on the list. Therefore the "others" aren't from the back of the plane.
10/9/2005 3:34:21 AM
you sir, are fucking retarded. no one is saying the others are the people from the back of the plane, we are saying that the people holding sawyer, jin, and michael hostage are not "the others" at all, but are simply the people from the back of the plane, sawyer, jin, and michael just think they are the others
10/9/2005 3:45:24 AM
10/9/2005 3:49:07 AM
yes, they havent explained if the people that are holding michael, sawyer, and jin are The Others, or people from the back of the plane. but the guy a couple posts above said that people think The Others are the people from the back of the plane, which, obviously, they arent. these are two different arguments.hence the disparaging remarks that you quoted.[Edited on October 9, 2005 at 3:52 AM. 10/9/2005 3:52:23 AM
exactly, i know we dont know for sure yet who the people holding them are, but i was simply saying that no one was arguing the point that staypuff was trying to make
10/9/2005 4:13:51 AM
um...i don't know if you read earlier parts of the thread, but there are several people that think that the "other" are the people from the back of the plane.I wasn't directing the comment to anyone in particular. I was just catching up on the thread and saw people mention ethan. Then my last comment popped in my head.so take a chill pill, a deep breath, and relax.....

Ok charlie, i'm going to try this one more time. I said that the book being there was significant not important, and I chose that wording for a reason. Dictionary.com has several definitions for "significant", but the one people seem to be fixated on is this: "Having or likely to have a major effect, important." However, "significant" is also defined as: "Having or expressing a meaning; meaningful." I tried to make it abundantly clear that I was not saying that the book was important to the plot of the show, but that it did seem to have some meaning. I stated why I felt that the book's placement in the show could imply that it has a meaning for being there, and I stated similarities between the book and show that would reenforce why it had that meaning. So, once again I feel that the meaning, or significance, of the book is: to simply to give the viewer an idea of influences behind the show and, if someone wants to, a starting point to form "crackpot theories." As for your response to me, once again you're putting words in my mouth. You took what we said, and spun it into this idea that we think that anything "explicitly shown in the 43 minutes of the show" must be important, and that what we said implies that the books "are the answer to everything, everything!!!!!" I responded to what you said with that quote because I thought it was odd that the one person who has said anything remotely close to what you implied was attacking somone else for it. In all honesty, I agree that the interactions are important to the extent that they, at the very minimum, provide some sort of character development, so you can take that for what its worth.Thats all I have to say on this subject, troll away brother[Edited on October 9, 2005 at 6:50 PM. So it's like the movie "Sphere" but instead of a sphere, it's an island?
10/9/2005 7:20:10 PM
jon, thanks for the post, and you're right, the book MAY be more than just an example of the writer's influences, I stated as much in my original post on the subject. However, I'm being reserved as to where the connection between the two will come into play, regardless of what others may imply , if it comes in at all. That said, what do you think about the Walt, polar bear, comic book theory that people have thrown around? It has already been implied that Walt is "special" in a way similar to what you describe by the bird he is studying flying into the window. People then took this and combined it with his facination of polar bears, and came up with an explination of how they ended up on the island. However, last weeks show seems to counter that theory by showing the polar bears when discussing the project's animal studies. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.[Edited on October 9, 2005 at 7:57 PM. Reason : i felt like it]
