"Maybe the "Move to" name is a bit clunky, but nothing's really changed"

it has changed.
Previously, labels were just labels. You couldn't "move" a message to a label - you could add a message to the label, but it would remain in your Inbox unless you Archived it. Inbox and All Mail were the only real "folders" (plus spam, trash, etc).
But now, the labels can act like labels or folders. Like I said, i understand it, and how to make it work, but they're still mixing metaphors. For example, it doesn't make sense to apply multiple labels to a message, then "move" it to another label.

A lot of that is 10 years old or so.

As for a real innovation. What about setting break points while coding javascript? How's that for fun.

Moving a message now is just labeling + archiving it. There's really no difference in functionality.

interesting

It would be nice to have a bit more flexibility in the layout, but it's an interesting concept

Google Calendar accepts file attachments for events ... and the Calendar is also available through Gears for offline use now same as Mail.

And maybe we'll get extensions in Chrome soon. Possibly by May?

So for the last couple of days I've noticed that when I get a new email in gmail the subject line is bolded like normal, but the sender's name isn't. I checked and it looks like this is just a firefox thing. But it happens on my PC and macbook. Safari and IE still bold the sender's name like normal. Is this happening to anyone else? Anyone know why?

yeah, i noticed that too. I did a double-take because it looked strange, then i convinced myself that it must have been like that all along, because..... why the hell would you change it to be like that.

Guess my initial reaction was right.

You still using Chrome? I think it's a firefox only thing.

I googled to try and find a fix and all I could find was a couple of people twittering (is that the right verb?) about the same problem, but no fix.

It worked fine in Safari for me. But that was Mac version 3.x. Dunno about 4.0 or the windows version.

Sorta looks like it ... but I'm not sure exactly how it passes the texts to your phone for free.

Looks like you can get them in email? And just look at email from your phone? As long as you don't open the text message on the phone it doesn't charge per use right?

Yeah, it looks like it can be free with a bit of work. As long as you don't open the text on the phone then you should be good, in theory, But of course they could charge for you text-forwarding I guess.

if by text you mean regular SMS text messages then your logic is very very wrong.. you're charged for texts when you receive them. whether you open them or not has nothing to do with it.

I was asking not saying. I just know on pre-paid they don't charge unless you open it. And anyway, suppose some crazy girls decides to text you 10000 times, why should you have to pay for that unless you read them?

^In that event, just call your cell phone provider and explain it to them, they'll generally work with you.

agreed..but that's just not how it works. i remember my ex-gf's mom figuring that out the hard way a few years ago. "i keep getting these messages about the weather report for today but don't even open them and they keep charging me for them, blah blah blah"

apparently google has removed the public calendar search from google calendar. pretty stupid if you ask me:

Quote :
"We've decided to discontinue public calendar search and the public calendar gallery. These were specialized U.S. English-only features that weren't used as extensively as we would have liked, and proved difficult to maintain over time. We're looking at ways to make it easier to search and browse public calendars, but for now we've removed the gallery and public calendar search function.

Here's what's not changing:

* Public calendars are sticking around.
o You can still create public calendars, and there are a number of ways to spread the word about public calendars you create or you subscribe to.
o You can still add a public calendar to your list of calendars.
o If you have public calendars in your list of calendars, they'll stay there.
o We'll still list the most sought-after public calendars on a static page, just as we've been doing in other Calendar languages. You can access these calendars by clicking the Add down-arrow button (at the bottom of the calendar list on the left) and selecting Add a public calendar.
* Calendar search is sticking around.
o You'll still be able to search the contents of any of the calendars on your list -- including any public calendars you add.
"

http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=139970

long story short: you can still use your public calendars, but we've crippled any ability to actually add new ones easily. THANKS GOOGLE.

they're enabling youtube, picasa, flickr and yelp integration directly in gmail messages, but it's in Labs and you have to enable it.
http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2009/03/new-in-labs-youtube-picasa-flickr-and.html

The Labs section is cool, but it's getting a bit ridiculous how much they have in there. If they're serious, they need to start picking some of the good experiments (like this one) and just add them as a normal option, or go ahead and enable them by default.

of course, they they wanted to get serious with Gmail, they could pull it out of Beta. The 5-year Gmail Beta countdown is down to 11 days now.....

----

they've integrated Picasa photos into Maps Street View. When using Street View, there is a thumbnail in the upper-right that will bring up user photos stored in Picasa Albums of that location
