Okay lookAll this "they used the force on the platforms" talk is just speculation on your part because there was no evidence of it in the movie. Given the cheesy nature of Star Wars and its total disregard to explaining why things are the way they are, there's no basis to how the platforms moved other then the fact that they just did.Furthermore, Obi Wan became quite dead when Vader cut him down. He may be a "force ghost" or whatever those things are called, but he no longer has a physical body. Obviously with his and Yoda's and Vaders and Palpatines death, the "2=2 Balance" theory fails because Luke is the sole remaning Jedi that we know of. Abandon this idea already.
6/1/2005 9:46:43 AM
I've never taken the balance of the Force to rely on the number of opposed Force users. I've always taken it as referring to the proportions of the light side and the dark side. I mean, I'm pretty sure Emperor Palpatine isn't a one-to-one comparison with some punk-ass padawan. More like for every Emperor Palpatine, you need a hundred punk-ass padawans.Of course, on the real? I don't buy the Jedi myth of balance anyway. For every Jedi in the galaxy, there's probably two or three Force users operating outside of the Jedi tradition. How you gonna measure balance by you and the Sith alone when there are God knows how many Force witches on Dathomir who don't give a damn about your ideas of balance? Chew on that.

General Grievous--Does anyone know anything about his origin? Did he make a cameo in the previous two movies or is this his first appearance?
6/1/2005 10:40:00 AM
He first appeared in the Clone Wars shorts originally aired on Cartoon Network.
6/1/2005 10:40:56 AM
and he was way more of a badass
6/1/2005 11:18:56 AM
I swear right as he pulled out all those lightsabers, I heard the Transformers sound
6/1/2005 11:38:25 AM
When he whipped out the lightsabers, did anyone notice that they recoiled when activated?they're supposed to be massless.
6/1/2005 12:22:19 PM
They are massless, but the force of the ignition is what caused the recoil. Some lightsabers do it, some don't. It's all in how the crystals are arranged to focus the beam and how the power cell puts out the power. Some sabers extend slowly, some explode out, etc.
6/1/2005 12:25:18 PM
Yeah, dumbass.
6/1/2005 12:26:54 PM
the game is pretty cool.
6/1/2005 12:28:37 PM
So a light saber runs off of batteries? How long can you leave a saber on before it dies, then? It'd kinda suck to lose your light saber in the middle of a fight. And then of course, considering light sabers can cut through just about any material and melt pretty much any metal, it must take a shitload of energy to maintain the blade. What the hell sort of battery can store that much energy?
6/1/2005 12:38:18 PM
I thought it was some sort of crystal energy source which also focused the beam...?
6/1/2005 12:44:25 PM
it depends on the saber design.Even tho its considered EU, luke used a power pack from a standard Blaster Rifle to recharge is saber in "Splinter of the Minds Eye" or whatever it was called.
6/1/2005 12:48:03 PM
^ Worst Star Wars book ever, and I read most of them back in the day.
6/1/2005 12:51:03 PM
A lightsaber blade doesn't expend that much energy at all at rest. They barely heat the air. When they come into contact with stuff, they'll cut through it, sure. You've got to remember that the published power scales in Star Wars are RIDICULOUS. Droid batteries lasting centuries! Starship cannons destroying cities!
6/1/2005 12:56:35 PM
^ that's a good point
6/1/2005 12:57:27 PM
6/1/2005 1:12:46 PM
6/1/2005 1:16:42 PM
6/1/2005 1:18:52 PM
i still think its like a space-age segwaythat thing runs purely off your balance
6/1/2005 1:28:03 PM
I thought the droids and aliens working in the lava was hilarious. I mean seriously, they were picking up about a gallon of lava at a time with those buckets. WTF are they gonna do with a little bit of lava???Now had they been the same size as the molten metal containers in episode 2 that would make sense. So basically they are there so that anakin and odiwan can land on them. And it didnt even make the scene better. Though it did set up a way that anakin can get both legs cut off other hand cut off and catch on fire all at once.
6/1/2005 1:32:29 PM
6/1/2005 2:23:12 PM
oh yeahi forgot one of them was a sentient worker droidmy badha, i even remember thinking it looked like the things from "Batteries Not Included"

Star Wars looks like rigid science compared to Star Trek. Saying a device has incredible power output isn't necessarily bad science. Saying there is a mirror world filled with bad versions of people probably is.
6/1/2005 4:42:45 PM
yea as sad as it is to me star wars seems more scientific than star trek haha
6/1/2005 4:52:04 PM
Fair enough, then.
6/1/2005 4:55:31 PM
but then again its like deciding whether an apple or an orange is more like a turkey
6/1/2005 4:56:19 PM
...Possible but complicated and ultimately beyond you?
6/1/2005 4:58:38 PM
6/1/2005 5:02:17 PM
Trek stuff is more goofy mainly 'coz it's a show.If this Star Wars TV thing goes through I'm sure there will be some really bad episodes.
6/1/2005 5:47:10 PM
No need to start the Star Trek vs Star Wars shit again.
6/1/2005 7:17:00 PM
6/1/2005 7:29:09 PM
^ i think they avoided force flung lava because then it would just become a splash fight, with one person trying to block the lava while flinging it at the same time. that would be pretty lame, and it wouldn't look as cool as two people twirling light sabers around really fast.
6/1/2005 7:34:22 PM
Lava flinging never even crossed my mind, actually.Okay, so I figure that Vader needed the suit because all his skin was burned away, which would've left his body open to rampant infection, and so I guess the suit basically sealed him away from the outside world. But why did he need the respirator? He didn't seem to be having trouble breathing.
6/1/2005 7:37:53 PM
6/1/2005 7:41:03 PM
In KOTOR it involves putting crystals together. I'm not sure how that produces a laser sword, but whatever.
6/1/2005 8:15:22 PM
6/1/2005 8:24:44 PM
6/1/2005 8:30:21 PM
6/1/2005 9:17:59 PM
This is what separates Star Wars from Star Trek. It's not there to explain why the lightsaber or the transporter or warp drive or whatever works. It's all merely a vehicle to get on with the story.
6/1/2005 9:19:32 PM
Exactly! Lightsabers could just as easily be broadswords, and starships could just as easily be longboats.
6/1/2005 9:20:39 PM
god forbid you tell people star wars is not science fiction
6/1/2005 9:57:23 PM
I think that freedom Star Wars has with technology is what makes it so interesting. Who cares that Star Destroyer's are techinically impractical, they look fucking cool.
6/1/2005 10:28:51 PM
6/1/2005 10:39:38 PM
can i just say this again:
6/1/2005 10:42:27 PM
6/1/2005 10:56:43 PM
I just watched "A New Hope". Man, the Vader vs Kenobi fight in episode 4 looks like shit compared to 3. Their feet never even left the ground. I'd take a lava fight any day.
