LMAO at UNC getting ranked this week after beating *checks notes* a sub .500 FCS team.
11/5/2023 4:49:23 PM
Drake Maye is good. But I kinda don’t get why unc doesn’t run way more than they do. Especially in the red zone. 1st and goal from the 7. They passed 3 times. Meanwhile Hampton averages like 6.5 ypc. They settled for another red zone FG
11/11/2023 10:04:46 PM
Duke getting totally hosed wow
11/11/2023 11:10:10 PM
I don't know if that wrestling is a pick but it's crazy not to look at it
11/11/2023 11:10:53 PM
Yeah truly insane that it wasn’t reviewed. That’s ridiculous
11/11/2023 11:13:18 PM
Did Duke use a challenge already?
11/11/2023 11:13:41 PM
Elmo also could’ve used a timeout to at least buy more time for them to initiate a review. I get that you don’t wanna have to call a TO but damn[Edited on November 11, 2023 at 11:18 PM. Reason : Lol I’m leaving Elmo. It’s funny ]

11/12/2023 12:28:38 AM

Was just looking at the stats for the Clemson-UNC game. Just found another example of ESPN's QBR being an absolutely garbage metric. Here are the two QB stat lines:Klubnik: 21/32 219 yards 6.8 ypa 1 TD 0 INTMaye: 16/36 209 yards 5.8 ypa 1 TD 1 INTGuess who has the better QBR? You guessed it, top NFL draft pick Drake Maye! Despite completing less than 50% of his passes and turning the ball over, he beats Klubnik 76.6 - 72.8. Oh and before you say "well it takes into account rushing as well", Klubnik ran 12 times for 44 yards and a TD compared to 10 times for 67 yards and zero scores There's no way, shape or form that you can say Maye outplayed his counterpart in this game, and yet once again QBR is giving wonky grades and there's no real way to see why!
11/19/2023 1:24:56 AM
I didn't watch the game, but the only way I could see that making any sense at all is if Klubnik's gains came largely on a handful of breakaway runs while Maye's were more consistent. Still agree that QBR is garbo tho
11/19/2023 11:38:00 AM
To further Justin’s point, Maye took 4 sacks and Klubnik 0. Sacks are flaunted as rush yards and attempts in college. But no matter how you split it, taking 0 sacks is way better than taking 4 sacks.
11/19/2023 3:37:13 PM
Yes i will 100% say the guy who was responsible for 2 touchdowns, no turnovers and no sacks played better than the guy responsible for 1 td, 1 interception and took 4 sacks. ESPN says no though I swear they just make these numbers up.]
11/19/2023 3:56:30 PM
those sacks juice his running numbers, tho
11/19/2023 4:01:34 PM
It's a really bad metric. Maye completed <50% of his passes and somehow Maye still had a rating that is "elite" according to ESPN (>75). It's a joke and no one should ever use it as a serious tool to compare players. I will die on this hill.]
11/19/2023 4:07:16 PM
there is no perfect metricit’s best to look at more than just one to get a full pictureI’m also willing to bet that every attempt gets graded factoring in a few different things, since all incompletions aren’t the same [Edited on November 19, 2023 at 4:35 PM. Reason : .]
11/19/2023 4:15:05 PM
Lol so it's incredibly subjective and it's biased towards players who ESPN says are good, no matter how they actually perform.
11/19/2023 4:56:16 PM
you’d have a point if you could prove thatcan’t prove it based on vibes, tho
11/19/2023 5:03:24 PM
For reference Maye’s passer rating yesterday was 96.8. Klubnik was 133.4! Pretty big difference. Passer rating isn’t a perfect stat either but in this case I think it’s closer to what actually happened on the field yesterday than ESPNs QBR.^ it’s hard to prove anything since it’s proprietary and espn doesn’t reveal the formula but I think Justin makes a pretty fair point. [Edited on November 19, 2023 at 5:09 PM. Reason : F]
11/19/2023 5:07:29 PM
it makes no sense for them to juice a players statsto follow that logic, people who otherwise wouldn’t watch would base their viewing solely on a players QBRit’s absurd
11/19/2023 5:09:40 PM
Well I’m not going so far as to say that espn is using it to prop up certain players for narrative reasons or whatever. It just seems obvious that it’s not a good stat.
11/19/2023 5:11:52 PM
I don’t know that it’s that obviousI much prefer it over QB Rating
11/19/2023 5:23:45 PM
It does make sense that they would inflate their fake made up bullshit stat for players who they/their talking heads have been pumping up since before the season started. Making players on teams who pull ratings look better is a win for ESPN. I'm not going to go down the rabbit hole and definitively say that ESPN is doing this, but i can't rule it out because THEY DON'T SAY HOW THEY COMPUTE THEIR STAT.My whole point is that QBR is a trash metric and no self respecting person/news agency/institution should use it in any circumstance.[Edited on November 19, 2023 at 5:24 PM. Reason : Magic QBR box says bad QB play is actually good QB play]
11/19/2023 5:23:53 PM
nobody who otherwise wouldn’t watch is tuning into a game because of a players QBRthere are plenty of scouts who have no connection to ESPN who have him ranked very high
11/19/2023 5:34:34 PM
Drake Maye is very good and will get drafted very high and that has little to do with espn and their QBR stat. But QBR is also flawed. For a while the best (nfl) QBR game of all time was Charlie Batch throwing for like 180 yards 3 TDs and 2 INT. ESPN changed it to increase the minimum number of plays needed for the stat. But he graded out as 99.9 that game. Which seems obviously wrong.
11/19/2023 5:57:29 PM
I think QBR is supposed to give players more credit for throwing into tight windows, than little dump off passes, even if they both result in 1 completion for the same number of yards. But the fact that they can't just disclose the formula is pretty sus.
11/19/2023 6:37:54 PM
AP poll means nothing at this point but huge lol at Tennessee still being ranked.
11/19/2023 7:15:21 PM
Tennessee ranked 21 lol. What a joke.
11/21/2023 7:19:08 PM
lol at Michigan rushing the field.

RIP Florida State's playoff chances[Edited on December 2, 2023 at 7:27 PM. Reason : Michigan, Washington, Bama, Georgia]
12/2/2023 7:27:05 PM
Undefeated fsu is in. What a failure of the playoff process if an undefeated power conference champ misses it. Texas has a better argument than UGa and Bama. I think UGa is out. Decision is between Texas, Bama, FSU if FSU wins (and Michigan winning). Texas beat Bama. So I think it’s Texas, FSU, Mich, Wash in that scenario. [Edited on December 2, 2023 at 7:33 PM. Reason : A]
