Defense giving up 4.7 ypp is good. Penalties. Missed FG. Settling for FGs instead of TDs. Can’t convert 3rd downs.[Edited on November 13, 2021 at 11:29 PM. Reason : Still, fuck all the defeatist bullshit attitudes. Y’all ain’t fun]

Knight and Person….12 carries for 66 yards. That’s good. They should’ve tried it a few more times. I know Bam was banged up later in the game. Doesn’t matter how good Leary is, passing 50 times/game isn’t gonna win us a lot of games. Our offense isn’t really built for that. We aren’t running the air raid with lots of high percentage passes so you can still stay ahead of the chains. We are throwing downfield and attempting some lower percentage passes (which isn’t bad if you can balance it out with positive yardage on other downs) and continually getting in 2nd and 3rd and longs. Wake’s weakness was their run D. We simply didn’t take advantage of that. Barely even attempted to take advantage of it. I think that’s a valid criticism of the staff. I’m sure there’s gonna be plenty of knee jerk reaction about the coaches that is probably undeserved. But there is plenty of blame to go round this game…some odd coaching decisions (squib kick gave them 3 points, not even trying to run, aggressive 3rd done blitzes) and some poor execution (missed FG, dropped passes, dumb penalties). Can we move on from Dunn now? Always misses in big games. Impressive we hung in there with our defense getting hurt every play. Once Battle was ejected for stupid targeting his backup committed pass interference way too much. I agree that I am not sure why we totally abandoned the run.
11/14/2021 12:17:43 AM
Dunn is the best kicker in school history
11/14/2021 12:27:35 AM
I liked Hauschka. Dunn is usually solid but doesn’t have the best distance and maybe it is just recency bias but seems to miss in the big moments/games.
11/14/2021 12:49:42 AM
Dunn's a choker. He's behind Hauschka and Czajkowski for meHe only has the record because Dave's a pussy and kicks too many field goals

11/14/2021 2:24:23 AM
Actually we wouldve beat Clemson in 2010 if Czajkowski was perfect against them. I guess I've completely mindwiped that game aside from the puntAnd he went 1/2 against Maryland in the Torrey Smith game, which wouldnt have mattered Guess Dunn can claim the 4 year title if he reverses ^that trend and doesnt finish with a sub 80% FG%, although I'm giving Josh the tiebreaker if its close because at least he didnt completely melt down in the pivotal Clemson game (that one was on the road, too)[Edited on November 14, 2021 at 2:41 AM. either way, kicker has not been our problem this year and there is a pretty good chance whoever replaces Dunn will not be as good
11/14/2021 4:01:35 PM
It's true, the next kicker could go 0-4 against Clemson!
11/14/2021 5:14:02 PM
0-5 is on the table now that you can play in 4 games and still redshirt.
11/14/2021 6:05:14 PM
I meant 0-4 on field goals in the game next year!
11/14/2021 6:08:17 PM
kicking definitely cost us more games this year than play calling or turnovers. of our entire roster, Dunn is truly the one player who can gtfo and never come back![Edited on November 14, 2021 at 6:09 PM. Reason : .]

Fg attempts is indicative of offense that couldn’t get ball in endzone. I’d rather him have less 3-pt kick attempts

2 of Dunn's missed FG attempts in the Clemson game were from 50+ yards. Leave it to justin to be mad about missed FGs in a game that we WON.

I have nothing to add to this other than fuck Wake Forest fans for booing injured players. They've been trying to back it up online and in person by claiming we were faking injuries, but I have so many problems with that.First, injuries. Our defense is banged up, and Daniel Joseph in particular has been playing through injuries all year. Compound that with a fast offense and refs who seemed averse to whistling anything but penalties and of course he got injured a lot.Second, a bunch of pansy daddy's-money Wake students and redditors who have no idea how hard it is to play D1 football have absolutely no place to judge that. Anyone who says "it's just a cramp" is insane -- sure, maybe 'just' a cramp instead of an ACL tear, but I have no idea how dudes get a cramp and continue to play. I'd be out for the day lol.Third, faking injuries is not a strategy I've *ever* seen Dave use, even in down years. The idea that he'd suddenly pull it out for this game is just bizarre to me. Our motto is Hard Tough Together and he prides himself on the whole blue-collar mentality shtick, like it or not. There's no way faking injuries would get any buy-in from the team.I find the narrative around this so amusing. Weeks ago Iowa fans got lit up for booing injured Penn State players and everyone sided with PSU. But here? No one's mentioning it, and on Reddit I got downvoted to hell for saying booing injured players isn't ok, without even adding the stuff above this. Just, and I quote, "Booing am injury is never something I'd risk regardless of whether I 'think' he's injured or not. Just not a good look if it turns out he's actually not ok. There really is no justification for it imo"I don't wanna be one of those 'narrative' state fans about how everyone hates us but this is crazy

I would downvote this post if i could.

I can’t imagine giving that much of a shit about something that doesn’t matter at all
11/15/2021 1:10:34 PM
Y'all are just deflecting from the more important points of what I'm saying.Has there ever been a time Dave ever faked injuries? I really dgaf about Reddit karma, that's not what I'm complaining about. [Edited on November 15, 2021 at 1:22 PM. Reason : ed]
11/15/2021 1:19:20 PM
I do my best to not read opposing fans’ message boards or online stuff because it’s never fun or enjoyable. I didn’t think we were faking injuries. I don’t really care and nothing can be proven. But asking our best defensive linemen to continually fake an injury and leave the field so that less experienced and less talented players can take their place seems like a dumb strategy.

11/15/2021 2:19:09 PM
^^ That's probably a good way to look at it. I generally don't either and I guess I've found the reason I don't normally involve myself in game/post-game threads but I wanted to see if I was the only person feeling like some of the calls were off and saw those while I was in there. Also thanks for addressing my question instead of going on some bizarre rant about Reddit and/or my ego
11/15/2021 2:29:27 PM
rayef3rw, I wasn't able to watch much of the game, but it's natural for the ACC to give some home cooking to the team they feel has the best shot at the CFP from the ACC
11/16/2021 1:02:42 PM
I wondered on the Block in the back on their long punt return, but it was close and there was one that was close on Bam's TD return. My biggest Ref gripe was Wake's first TD which was on 3rd Down and was an obvious OPI. It would have been 3rd and 16 if the penalty was called and may have pushed them to run a draw for the FG on a long down and distance. My biggest gripe of game was DD's poor time management. He should have used timeouts on Wake's last TD Drive after the awful play call on all out Blitz with a backup DB in one on one coverage getting DPI.
11/16/2021 1:17:30 PM
My biggest gripe is the OL and not being able to run the ball.
11/16/2021 1:58:27 PM
Biggest thing was not getting 3rd down stops. And we settled for FGs early while they cashed in TDs. Their only FGs were a long miss (like 50 yards) and one right before half. We weren’t getting stops in the red zone. If they crossed the 50 they were getting TDs. Except for Pitts’ INT in the end zone. I’m sure there were missed calls. But basically the game came down to 3rd downs. They made plays on 3rd downs and we didn’t.
11/16/2021 2:02:21 PM
I agree about third down conversions, and while there were calls I disliked you can't put the whole game on refs. We ultimately couldn't get stops when we needed to, put ourselves in waaay too many 3rd and longs. The push off on their first TD was ridiculous though.Kickstand, you are right though about CFP hopes. Miami kinda kicked us outta that one. There was an outside shot before Wake but not anymore At one point I was gonna go see how many missed calls were on one team vs the other but it's hard to tell from the broadcast view a lot of the time, plus it's not like it changes anything so *shrug* -- felt biased towards Wake but that's the homer in me probably. Ultimately we lost the game, not the refs.Running the ball has been bad lately but I don't think was an issue this game, it seems like we sort of just shrugged and decided to pass it all day. 18 Attempts for 74 yards isn't bad, especially considering Ricky was 8/36 and Zonovan 4/30. Granted, you take away 1 long run for each and it becomes 7/20 and 3/18 but that's still not bad. ESPECIALLY against Wake's defense. Something like 120th in the nation in rushing YPG allowed.
11/16/2021 4:19:38 PM
Oh look, there's the hill that we'll never get over.
11/16/2021 4:52:35 PM
I thought the run was working decently enough for us to not total out abandon it. It was the fewest rush yards Wake had given up all year. It was also the fewest rush attempts they’d seen.
11/16/2021 5:41:43 PM
^This is so frustrating. The two backs had 12 carries for 66 yards. That is 5.5 per carry, but yet we threw the ball 59 times. Zonovan Knight could be a NFL back and had 4 carries for 30 yards against the worst run D in the ACC.
