Some things are better as one-offs. Part of what made it so good was the interesting artistic flare that the theater/book brought. If you look at the post-pandemic world in another location, it becomes the walking dead or any other post-apocalyptic thriller.

Still watching raises by wolves… I really think the writers ask themselves what’s the weirdest possible thing that can happen and then write that script. I can’t stop watching though

big WTF moment on the beach in that last episode.

I'm looking forward to season 2 of White Lotus.
10/17/2022 12:01:51 PM
Season 2 of White Lotus is great so far.
11/11/2022 5:24:00 PM
Only 2 eps into White Lotus season 2 but i have to say the guys 30 second shower bothered me!
12/3/2022 8:27:17 PM
Finally got caught up on S2 White Lotus. I was expecting it to be only 6 episodes like S1 so I went into ep6 thinking "A lot of people are gonna have to die real soon".Anyway.[Spoilers]I'm thinking that the dead bodies have something to do with the mafia. Whatever scam the gay guys are running on Tanya to get her money clearly has mafia ties. Thinking that the escort's pimp is part of the mafia operation too. Also, what's up with Uncle Rico? He works for the Bureau of Land Management, so he can't be that rich (prior to marrying Tanya). But he can afford to stay at the White Lotus in Hawaii in S1? I thought originally maybe he had family money, but he said that he has to keep his job in case Tanya goes crazy and drops him, given they have a prenup.
12/8/2022 5:13:37 PM
[spolers] alsoI think this last ep showed him to be the 'cowboy' the guy was in love with, so for now anyway they are def going to catch her "cheating" to let him blow the prenup, then he will give them some of the cash i presume.
12/8/2022 5:39:31 PM
I think that all the breadcrumbs that Mike White has dropped are far too obvious and that the dead bodies will have nothing to do with any story arcs from this season
12/8/2022 5:53:29 PM
Everything's coming up Greg
12/11/2022 10:27:12 PM
12/12/2022 11:01:35 AM
I feel like Albie knew it was a decent chance. He got three great days with a lady and it cost him nothing (other than maybe the guilt of gaslighting his own mother)
12/12/2022 12:44:27 PM
So I guess that the "nephew"s entire job was to keep Portia away from the party so that Tanya could get even more attached to the gay group/Mafia guy? Also, why would Portia even get in that car with him? Tanya literally told her she knew they were gonna try and kill her so for all she knew, she could have ended up as a victim of human trafficking if the nephew didn't grow a conscience.
12/12/2022 1:44:45 PM
Season 1 had much, much better humor/character development and worked just fine as a stand alone series imo.Season 2 was just OK. A lot of people seem disappointed in the ending, but for me that was the least of the season's problems. I just didn't really care about the plot or what was going to happen to any of the characters, and other than it being set in a beautiful and interesting location, I often found myself being bored and hoping something would finally 'happen', while the dark themes/tropes/social commentary/"whatever you want to call it" on superficial relationships and fucked-up family dynamics felt kind of depressing/dour/cringe. IDK-- a "vacation" with miserable, quirky people set in Maui just felt a lot funnier and more engaging than a "vacation" with miserable, yet duller, dumber people who weren't very likable to begin with in Sicily.
12/13/2022 1:22:13 AM
^Agreed. The first season was a lot funnier and more quirky. The whole rivalry between the manager and the newlywed husband in the first season was great + Tanya's overall craziness. That was missing from this one.
12/13/2022 11:28:28 AM
Interesting to note that HBO will soon start pulling original content off HBO Max to reduce the amount of residuals they have to pay to cast and crew.
12/13/2022 6:29:09 PM
^Is that something to do with that Discovery Channel merger thing?
12/14/2022 11:30:06 AM
From what I gathered, yup.
12/14/2022 1:14:54 PM
Where would it be hosted then?I mean, are we talking about shows like The Sopranos and The Wire?
12/14/2022 1:32:47 PM
None of this makes any sense to me. HBO more or less has the most brand clout out of any media streaming service for dramas and movies. Why the fuck are they getting slapped around in a merger with a bullshit (mostly) reality TV organization? What a crock of shit.
12/14/2022 3:06:00 PM
Streaming is on a path of regressing customer experience/power back to pre dvr cable days-unskippable ads-live sports without ability to pause/rewind-content that disappears-quantity over quality
12/14/2022 3:45:29 PM
I would assume a lot of their older catalog doesn't have streaming residuals as part of cast/crew catalog, so that's maybe safe?
12/14/2022 5:32:26 PM
12/14/2022 10:19:47 PM
Yea but where can I watch it online??

Are people cheap? Or can people not afford all these segmented streamers? Paramount+, HBOMax, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Peacock, Showtime, Amazon Prime. That’s at least $100 worth of streamers, not including the cost of the internet required to bring them into your home. Sure, you don’t have to subscribe to all of them at the same time, but as each one adds more and more exclusive content, timing will start to get tricky.
1/10/2023 9:09:18 PM
^^Well yeah, but if there are reasonably priced alternatives, that will certainly reduce it. Look what Steam did to PC gaming. Still today it is mostly cheap, easy, and they don't make it annoying with ads and shit like that. If they were to put in unskippable ads and things like that, people would get annoyed and stop using it. The same way they will with these streaming services.

OK, I'm a year or more behind, but I just watched Station Eleven after a family member said it was one of their favorite shows ever. I DID manage to finish all 10 episodes.WTF?! Are y'all smoking crack? I seriously considered bailing out after Episode 4. Who gives a shit about their traveling cadre of dipshits flitting around pretending to be Shakespearean actors? Jeevan and Frank were the only likable characters in the whole series. I found myself really hoping the Traveling Symphony members would explode in the minefield, but no such luck.Unless you like pretentious garbage and the mother of all non-linear storylines, I say don't bother. The first episode was good.
1/30/2023 12:07:14 AM
I think the big thing people latched onto was something positive in an apocalypse. Kinda like episode 3 of The Last of Us.It was a nice departure from cannibals and whatever other shit groups the people from shows like The Walking Dead were encountering.
1/30/2023 10:19:41 AM
I enjoyed Station Eleven. That said I don't think it was ground breaking or anything of that sort.
1/30/2023 11:19:28 AM
Fair enough. I wouldn't say I hated it, but it was pretty plodding (at least every other episode was), and I generally didn't like the characters, so it was hard for me to care much about what happened to them and all their emotional problems. I expected a little more based on the billing and the build-up from people I normally respect. It doesn't need to be zombies, but watching people deal with a true apocalyptic scenario and figuring out how to survive in spite of it is itself interesting. Where was the Traveling Symphony getting food after 20 years? Why didn't the kids attack the airport? They are shown wading through fields at night like zombies toward the airport, and then just nothing. Why did everyone forgive Tyler so easily for stealing babies and turning kids into suicide bombers? Moral of the story, never prioritize performing plays over your survival.]
