"regarding health though, gloves don't help prevent the spread unless you're a doctor or nurse who is likely coming into contact with, and touching people with covid"

From your own stupid article I know you didn't read:

Quote :
"To date, the CDC has not recommended the use of gloves for general daily activities. There are a few exceptions, such as:

Touching the buttons or handles on a gas pump when disinfecting wipes are not available.
Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces.
Handling dirty laundry, kitchen items, or trash from someone who has the virus.
Even in these cases, gloves are only effective when proper procedures are followed.

That means removing and discarding them appropriately. This should always be followed with thorough handwashing."

So they recommend wearing gloves at the gas station, and if directly assisting someone with the virus, and following proper glove wearing procedures. I have extended that direction to the grocery store etc for my own personal purposes. I operate with an abundance of caution and assume everything I touch is contaminated. So if you operate from there it's better to leave the contamination on the gloves than underneath your fingernails or w/e and follow proper glove wearing procedures for that short period of time you're in the store.

Of course wearing a mask is the most important thing you can do, and it should probably be mandated at the state level. Gloves don't hurt as long as long as you're not dumb about it.

Quote :
"you're just putting the grocery store door handle germs"

Lol my grocery stores don't have door handles and I'm pretty damn sure yours don't either.

Quote :
"you probably touch more often with the perceived safety of gloved hands"

I don't have any such perceived sense of safety of gloved hands.

Quote :
"wear gloves if the cdc, or a doctor who isn't an omg supposed trump puppet recommends it."

These are personal decisions. The CDC guidance on mask wearing was weeks late. There was nothing wrong with wearing one prior to that guidance being released.

LOL you mixing religions and ethnicities dude. Not Arab, but born and raised in a cosmopolitan city in a Gulf Arab country. Spent nearly 11 years in the US ('96-'03, '14-'18). Raised in a strict Muslim home but was never really into it; stopped believing more than 2 decades ago. Not atheist, but agnostic. I speak up against all oppression, whether committed by Israel, China, India, Muslim countries, or Western countries, or by any individuals or groups from anywhere.

Beef retrospective point.

I think it's hilarious that the guy who always feels the need to needlessly initiate and escalate the arguing and bullying and resort to personal attacks and name calling always finds the balls to claim that the target of his bullying is trying to "make up for some shortcoming in their own sad, humorless lives"

Get some help dude.

Pretty much this. The first couple of times, we tried wiping down the groceries once we brought them in, but that was such a time dump that we stopped for the most part. And our HT hasn't started the one-way stuff yet, so I have no dirty looks to give.

We also tried doing the curbside pickup at HT and Lowes, but the pickup times are about a week out right now, plus after all the substitutions they have to do, my cart looks very alien to me when I get it, so now I just go in.

1. Plan menu for following week.
2. Write shopping list from menu. The list is divided into fresh, dry, deli, cold, meat, and other.
3. Put on pants.
4. Let car warm-up in driveway for about 10 minutes.
5. Put on mask.
6. Drive to store.
7. Get cart.
8. Get groceries. Start in produce, then aisles, meat, cold case, beer, and deli.
9. Give dirty looks to people who don't follow the one-way arrows on each aisle.
10. Checkout. This usually involves me doing my own bagging.
11. Put groceries in back of car.
12. Put cart in corral. This usually involves rearranging the carts since most people are too lazy to sort by cart type and too weak to push the carts together.
13. Drive home.
14. Take mask off.
15. Take groceries inside.
16. Wash hands.
17. Put groceries away.
18. Take off pants.
19. Take shower.

1. Plan Menu for the Next Week

3. Put on Pants
4. Get in Car
5. Wait for a Pickup spot to open up.
6. Put On Mask
7. Have Clerk load Groceries in Trunk
8. Sanitize my Hands
9. Disenfectant Wipe Steering wheel Shifter and Turn Signal Wand
10. Go Home
11. Unload Groceries to Garage
12. Take out of bags
13. Wipe Down
14. Put in Basket
15. Take Shoes off in Garage
16. Wash Hands
17. Take in House and Put Away Groceries

How are u finding the pickup service? Anything like rumple's experience above? Do they have it where you don't have to sign anything now?

Anybody know if Walmart offers a similar service?

1. Plan Menu for the Next Week
2. Pull up Amazon Prime Now
3. Input all of my items.
4. Select the most convenient drop-off time.
5. About 30 minutes before the arrival window I make sure I'm dressed.
6. If I had alcohol in the order, then when the app tells me they're about to get there I get my ID.
7. I bring bags in.
8. Unbag and wipe items down.
9. Put away groceries.
10. Thoroughly wash hands.

I live in Georgia but we typically know that our Kroger has pickup times available several days out. Our day that we have been using is Friday's

Most pickups there hasn't been many substitutions which is nice, we have a good stockpile of meat in our freezers so most of the things if they are out is not end of the world we just adapt and move on. Plus Costco does free Instacart so we are set on some bulk non parishables. We have enough rice for a year and that is a good starchy food for when meat is in short supply.

real question is how long do you think your "new" grocery procedure(s) are going to be future procedure(s)? I'm guessing rest of 2020 atm at least.

The whole operation is a two-person job with the wife and I, but it mostly follows what others have said.

1) Plan meals

2) Make list based on meals, with items divided up according to section

3) Grab masks, drive to store. (Warming your car up for ten minutes? Where do you live, Siberia?)
4) Park and put on mask.

5) Grab cart.

6) Wife retains cart begins the laborious process of selecting produce. Evidently I am too inept at this task to be entrusted with it.

7) While she does that, I get meat/seafood for the week, then circle back and deposit it in the cart. Where possible, I follow the arrows, but our store makes it impossible to get back to produce without basically lapping the store. So give me all the dirty looks you want, I'll give you a wide berth but no fucks whatsoever.

8) Since wife's produce selection process involves a 95 point analysis, exact measurement, logarithms, and, I don't know, carefully massaging each fruit to orgasm, it takes a long fucking time. So while she works on that, I continue making sorties to gather dry goods.

9) We reconvene by dairy.

10) Select what appears to be the shortest checkout line, only to discover that the woman in front of us has 700 coupons from 1994 that she wants to try and argue about, and also refuses to bag her own shit in spite of having very strong opinions about how it should be bagged.

11) Checkout. We bring our own bags and do our own bagging.

12) Deposit bags into car and cart into corral.

13) Drive home

14) Put away groceries. (We haven't been sanitizing them, I admit)

15) Strip down and throw everything, including mask, into washing machine.*

16) Shower*

*-If we have any other errand that must be run, or if we have some kind of dirty yard work to do, we will hold off on these steps until those processes are complete.

My wife was using HT pick-up, insta-cart(stopped because of frustrations), and Amazon Prime Now deliveries for over a year when we were really busy.

I would stop in weekly as we needed a couple of things, so we've cut that out. Now we just do a better job planning our grocery deliveries and try to maximize each delivery.

I don't see this changing at least until the end of the year. Hell my mother never used the pick-up option and she started using it at Walmart and she likes it so much she said she doesn't know that she'll ever go back inside the store.

Wear a mask, Bring my own bags, fill them as I go, prefer self checkout, wash hands after putting everything away. Started doing the no cart thing a few weeks ago and it's kept me to just what's needed, less junk food.

I also prefer the self checkout if I don't have too much stuff.

Those systems vary wildly in user experience. Went to a new Aldi recently and woah the tech has gotten way better. Stuff scans near instantly and the credit card chip reading is not a 5-10 process anymore
