^^ When looking at closed (recovered or died) cases, mortality rate is 7%. Looking at all cases it is 3.4%. Actual rate once it is over should be somewhere in between. Where did you get 0.2% from?

We don't know how many people had coronavirus. Those mortality rates would only be accurate if everyone who ever caught it was counted but we know that they don't even have enough materials to test most of the people who have it in China.

why not just shut everything down for 2 week hoiiday now instead of waiting until it gets out of hand. I think you could save a lot of hardship if we just stopped the whole world for 2 weeks and let the virus end. Would that be too costly? Ineffective? China waited too long to try it. It seems like thats where we are headed but the difference is millions will be sick if we wait.

If this spreads as much as H1N1 did in 1 years time (70 million cases), we will be looking at 1.5-4 million dead (2-5% mortality rate).

What made the Spanish flu so deadly was that it caused a cytokene(sp?) storm in younger, healthy people that killed them.

So far this seems to mostly go after the elderly and folks that are already compromised. I read somewhere this weekend that not a single, healthy child under the age of 9 has died from this. But if you go to any old graveyard in this country, you'll see infant and child deaths from the Spanish flu

it's harder to control than the ebola crisis in some ways because its mild or asymptomatic in a lot of infected, diseases with shorter incubation that have consistent high fevers are easier to screen
