Herb, Lowe, Gott all reeled in really big recruits. State will rarely recruit on the same level as Duke/UNC other than 1 great class here or there. but we absolutely can and have gotten top recruits without winning much. that's been a constant over most of the various coach's tenures.

On a positive note, I thought our FT shooting was really good.

Reading through the NC State Facebook fan group I'm in.....the meltdown from some fans is a bit ridiculous after the loss. I think some of the disappointment in football team's performance has carried over. Two projected starters were out and Braxton got in foul trouble in the 1st half, so the team spent some stretches being rudderless without a real point guard to facilitate. Was surprised to see some guys showing improvement from last season (CJ, Hellems) and the new guys making an immediate impact (Bates, Andree). Both Beverly and Daniels seem like they're more or less the same as they were last year and I'd say they've probably reached their ceiling of development here (especially Daniels who quickly needs to realize he is merely a role player at this point in his career and stop taking control of possessions chucking up garbage on the first shot or driving into the lane contested).

Bates and Andree made immediate impact but disappeared in the 2nd half. And Bates was a zero on offense. Not sure what improvement Hellems showed.

I thought Hellems looked solid but his shot selection reminds me of Devon Daniels’. He needs to improve his shot selection

We just can't stop Banks III. Still the same after a year.

We played the entire game without a real point guard. Beverly is ok playing PG for short stints in relief, but that rudderless offense is what it looks like when he's the primary ballhandler.

The thing about Bates is that Braxton and Devon missed several opportunities to dump it to him when he was wide open in the post.

Beverly could probably play PG in the Big 10 like he had originally planned but he doesnt play with the pace required to be effective over the long term for our system.

I think that he handles the ball well and is a surprisingly good penetrator for his size, but he clearly doesn't look for the pass in situations where most D1 PGs would do it in their sleep. I don't think that it has anything to do with his pace, but that he plays like a very undersized SG.

He’s better off the ball although he can penetrate some. He’s not a true PG. He can be a serviceable PG in a pinch. But he’s a 2 guard. That’s why he’s not a good PG. Because it’s not his true position.

Because that’s what he is.
