Christ, Hockmans head got bounced around like a rag doll in the targeting replay
9/28/2019 10:33:29 PM
Theres literally zero chance Hockman isnt concussed right now
9/28/2019 10:35:36 PM
oh look another review over 1 or 2 yards
9/28/2019 10:35:46 PM
Play defense now
9/28/2019 10:36:02 PM
Dudes head is dead
9/28/2019 10:36:41 PM
Yesssssssssssssss
9/28/2019 10:38:35 PM
Fuck you DD
9/28/2019 10:39:35 PM
Lol illegal shift
9/28/2019 10:40:04 PM
Don't forget that we were poached of all of our best assistant coaches. Success has been Dave's biggest failure.[Edited on September 28, 2019 at 10:45 PM. Reason : somebody give a list of our poached coaches]
9/28/2019 10:44:18 PM
Yeah. We can’t keep our guys from taking big time jobs at (checks notes) Appalachian State.
9/28/2019 10:45:19 PM
That's fair, but I'd point out that FSU went out and hired Kendal Briles this offseason to try to salvage their disaster of a HC and we promoted two guys that were both so bad as OCs in previous jobs they lasted a year each
9/28/2019 10:46:36 PM
Drink and Ledford both got promotions. Drink had his first opportunity to be a HC at a D1 school. if he had left to be oc I could see talking shit.
9/28/2019 10:48:09 PM
I’ve changed my mind. Sun Belt Coach is better than this dumpster fire.
9/28/2019 10:49:10 PM
They scored way too quick. Can't give this offense that much time, only down 3 scores.
9/28/2019 10:49:32 PM
/season
9/28/2019 10:49:38 PM
Did we miss our chance to redshirt the entire freshman class?
9/28/2019 10:51:49 PM
McKay must have really pissed off DD if he still isn't back in the game
9/28/2019 10:59:03 PM
Hockman isn't great but at least the threat of a pass is there. Hines should have caught that.
9/28/2019 11:02:37 PM
Hockman isn’t good. McKay isn’t good. I’m just gonna assume Leary has a loooong ways to go if he’s not playing.
9/28/2019 11:02:41 PM
At this point, not sure it's worth playing him more then the 4 game max
9/28/2019 11:03:37 PM
^Leary has already redshirted if that is what you mean. He was here last year.
9/28/2019 11:05:10 PM
Why? Leary, McKay and Hockman have all already redshirted. The 4 games means nothing. It counts as a year of eligibility whether or not they see the field.
9/28/2019 11:05:58 PM
^^Oh yea duh[Edited on September 28, 2019 at 11:06 PM. Reason : Play him then I guess!! ]
9/28/2019 11:06:00 PM
Right. He’s already redshirted. I’m firmly in the “coaches see em in practice and I don’t” camp...but that just leads me to believe Leary is nowhere near ready.
9/28/2019 11:06:55 PM
Our wrs have been really disappointing this year other than maybe TT. Obviously lost alot there, but thought they would be a strength on a weak O. Too many drops.
9/28/2019 11:08:48 PM
Maybe the NCAA will spread our postseason ban to football and we can just blame that for another decade.
9/28/2019 11:09:41 PM
Well, I know it's soft defense but leary looked competent
9/28/2019 11:18:48 PM
Well, I'm ready for Leary to start next game. Or McKay start and bring Leary in after some series, but Hockman doesn't need to see the field again.^Yeah, you can't really judge Leary against a defense with an 18 point lead and 2 minutes left. Would have like to see some touch on that attempt in the endzone instead of a bullet. I think that pass probably highlights why he's #3.]
9/28/2019 11:19:52 PM
hockman at his best looks like a bad p5 qbmckay at his best is tough to say because hes looked at best for a grand total of 2 drivesleary at least looks like he has talent but it was 5 throws in a game that was already over
9/28/2019 11:21:01 PM
Wasn't able to watch this game, and can't say I'm sad I missed it.I'm now firmly in the "rebuilding year" mindset - for a while I thought as long as we kept recruiting well we'll be better next year, but I'm really starting to think it's a coaching/capabilities thing.Hux's defense has shown clear holes this year. Not sure what the reason is or if there was a change, but it's a blatant step down from last year. Offense I was expecting regression, but was hoping our strong run game (Knight/Houston + upperclassmen in Pennix and Person) would step up.I've been really disappointed with usage of Hines, I was hoping to see him a lot and instead he's only been out a few times. I had little faith in Emezie, probably stemming from that Wake Forest fumble 2 years ago, but he's done better than I expected. The fact that Thayer has seemed like the best receiver (so far) to me is mildly concerning. But QB is also a spot of concern for me, obviously. I think that whole discussion has been pretty well hashed out already though. While I'm not ready to call the year quits yet, I can't say I'm terribly optimistic
9/29/2019 12:58:50 PM
^^really hard to say what hockman at his best looks like as he was brought in for 1 drive against Ball State and then brought into a bad situation 3 drives into a road FSU game for his first meaningful snaps of the season. We'll see what he has in the Syracuse game i'd imagine.mckays best is FCS worthy. Average FCS QB worthy.Leary is interesting. Best arm talent of the 3 no doubt. Watching the spring game, he looked the worst though because he telegraphed everything he did, locked onto one target and his eyes never left that target. If he continues doing that, it doesn't matter how good of arm talent he is, he'll be bad.

I'd be fine if we used Hines less, that guy can look OK at times and is a complete liability at other times. Our WR's as a whole have disappointed the entire season and hopefully the BYE week we can find some things to scheme them open or work on their drops. McKay is done as the starter barring injuries. We'll use the BYE week to have Hockman(if healthy) and Leary compete for the starting job. McKay had 4 games and a few drives to prove he deserved the job but I think everyone agrees he wasn't getting it done. The offense looked totally inept with him at the helm against FSU and with Hockman there just seemed to be more energy. I'll give Hockman one thing, that dude is tough as nails. Leary looked OK against garbage time off-coverage and he clearly can make some throws, but I feel like there is a reason he was 3rd string. All I read about why he wasn't in the thick of things down the stretch in the QB competition was because he threw a lot of interceptions in practice, so I'm guessing he just needs reps and to stop forcing things. Wouldn't be surprised if he was just forcing things trying to win the QB competition and it was hurting him. Defense played well but really needs McCloud back. If the D can get/stay healthy, they should only get better. Even running our 3-3-5 we limited FSU to about 50 yards rushing(most of that on the terrible 4th down run by Akers where our DBs just gave up) and had 8 sacks, hard to get upset about that.[Edited on September 30, 2019 at 9:30 AM. This year reminds me a lot of the Pete Thomas / Brandon Mitchell year. I was worried when DD couldn't pick a starter that we would have a down year. I didn't expect it to be this bad. I can't put it all on the QB situation. I loathe co-coaching. Co-defensive coordinators and co-offensive coordinators is just a recipe for indecision and confusion. Huxtable is horrible and I have no idea why we still pay this man anything. I don't know if the offensive issues are on the McDonald / Kitchings experiment but it is clear that whatever they are doing isn't working. I feel bad for McKay. While he hasn't played well, he doesn't deserve the hate that he's getting from people. There's a lot more wrong with this team than his QB play.[Edited on September 30, 2019 at 11:27 AM. Reason : .]

All these options are better than Pete Thomas and Brandon Mitchell

Start Leary next game. If he sucks play out the year with either McKay or Hockman to see if either is worth playing next season. Rebuilding year here we come!
9/30/2019 10:11:15 PM
McKay just didn't bring anything to the table. He wasn't accurate, didn't make plays with his legs, and just lacked any sort of spark. He probably looks perfectly competent in practice but just lacks the "it" factor in games. Pretty sure we've seen the last of him as a starter.Hockman didn't look amazing, but he looked a lot better than McKay. Good spin/touch on the ball, good timing, good pocket presence. He did a nice job of keeping his eyes downfield while scrambling and making some plays. He didn't get a lot of help from the OL or WRs, but he at least looked capable of leading an offense.Hard to say anything on Leary, but the zip on his throws was impressive. Assuming Hockman is OK, I'd start him and give Leary a few series to get some meaningful reps.[Edited on October 1, 2019 at 10:47 AM. Reason : ]

Did you think McKay got pulled to early or should have come back in?
10/2/2019 3:10:54 PM
Mckay makes all the right decisions. The playcalling is awful and doesn't create anything. It puts the players in positions to have to make plays to create something instead of scheming openings. With that said, Mckay is not going to turn it over by forcing anything thats not there, and since nothings going to be there, we're either going to move the ball on the ground or punt. Hockman is going to force the issue and try to create offense on his own at the risk of turning the ball over. Its a terrible combination of an offense that relies on players to do something outstanding and no outstanding players. Jaysam, Dayes, Hines, Harmon, Myers and Lewis could win their matchups, catch in traffic, make guys miss, or break tackles. Finley could get the ball out quickly. With the exception of Thomas running nice routes to get open, no one on this team can create anything.
10/2/2019 3:21:05 PM
Emezie seems pretty capable
10/2/2019 3:46:14 PM
10/2/2019 4:02:57 PM
What? Mckay was fucking horrible in high school. Go search his stats. Hell, hockman completed the first downfield pass that wasnt a misdirection, wide open by 20 yds play last week. That entire post is not only laughable, but fucking wrong
10/2/2019 11:45:01 PM
10/3/2019 6:31:06 AM
The problem was the expectation. There was buzz that Emezie was going to be as good as Harmon and had a higher ceiling, which is clearly wrong. Emezie is a solid ACC WR but he's not going to go for 1,000 yards, doesn't have elite hands, and doesn't win 1-on-1 battles as well as Harmon. I really thought Thayer was going to fill the Meyers gap much better than he has, he hasn't looked nearly as sharp as last year in terms of quickness or catching the ball. Angeline is the best pass catching option we have right now but we haven't made him the focal point of the offense like we should. Hopefully this BYE week will help us evolve our passing game a bit and shift some of our play designs. McKay was the RPO guy that was supposed to really keep teams honest running the ball and be a solid enough passer to keep things balanced. Now we're playing Hockman and/or Leary, so we can get back to mainly 3-4 WR sets and our offense should look a little more like it did last year.
10/3/2019 10:11:30 AM
I think people bitching about the play calling are missing the fact that the OC can't really call a balanced game when he can't trust his QB to make passes down the field.Cue the waterfall: no passing, defenses stack the box, run game falls off because no one respects the pass.It was clear we didn't trust McKay to throw those passes downfield in game 2+, we need someone who can spread a defense a little so we can run the ball. Even with Knight hurt, we have a pretty capable cadre of carriers.
