good thing they traded for sami vatanen

at least the canes theoretically control his negotiating rights, if they wanted to sign him to a short prove it deal that could benefit both sides. what i imagine will happen is they give Dougie the contract he deserves, his play this season in his new role demands taking a chance on him being able to repeat it. when that happens there is some salary on defense that needs to be unloaded -- that could be Gardiner if a deal is available where they aren't paying to dump salary, or it could be moving Skjei even though its unlikely to recoup the first rounder that was spent for him. its possible they could even wait a year before doing either and wait to see how it shakes out.[Edited on April 2, 2020 at 2:13 AM. Staal's deal comes to mind

Yeah staal definitely is getting overpaid by 1.5-2M but I would hate to see him go

I love his game but he's been off for a while now. He definitely does not warrant 6 mil a year at this point.

nhl press conference at 3pm -- 24 team playoff?

certainly sounds like they aren’t gonna re-new Forslund’s contractthe Kaiton decision was semi-understandable. this one is just flat out awful.

Cheap bastards

LMAO they offered Forslund/Tracy contracts that made them independent contractors being paid on a per game basis and actually lowered their total pay. It's no wonder Forslund didn't sign.Being replaced by Maniscalco for the restart.]

Kind of operating on borrowed time with Forslund. Guy gets some national gigs but is still doing the Canes game-by-game. He outgrew the team as a broadcaster years ago.

i mean i hate to see forslund go, but yes i agree its time for him to move up in the worldthe way i look at it is that Dundon is maxing out payroll and giving the team salary resources that we previously have never had. If spending up close to the cap comes at the expense of not paying our broadcasters...I guess that's a compromise I will begrudgingly accept

^^there are lots of national play-by-play guys who still call games for their teams
7/16/2020 10:57:28 AM
^^i don't really think those two things are closely related. He's just tight. But you don't become a billionaire by not being tight.
7/16/2020 2:07:29 PM
^^ Well yeah, but from a local viewership and sponsorship numbers on Fox Sports Carolinas for games and how that translated into Forslund's paycheck as compared to other PBP guys for all the other franchises, where do the Canes rank in the league?

good luck finding that infohe’s one of the absolute best in the business and is worth whatever he wants, especially since his boss is a billionaire
