put another 50k in after the big dip. I'm up ~8% so far. thinking about realizing some of these gains and moving into private equity/consulting on a small scale. Anyone done any business purchases from brokers or otherwise?
2/19/2018 6:19:21 PM
I put in 5k. Wanted to leave some in cash in case it went down some more.

Making a killing on Crispr stocks. Getting killed on all my other gambles
3/8/2018 9:32:15 PM
Do you have a trailing stop set for CRSPR? I am along for the ride as well (got in around $16), but need to ensure that I lock in my gains when it comes back to earth. I honestly dont know how they are valued so high.
3/9/2018 5:27:43 PM
You really don't know why? The possibilities of this technology are literally limitless.[Edited on March 10, 2018 at 3:53 PM. Reason : i wont look at the stock for at least 5 years][Edited on March 10, 2018 at 3:53 PM. Reason : designer babies are coming]
3/10/2018 3:52:40 PM
Of course i know the potential of the technology, dummy. I asked why CRSPR in particular is able to justify its current valuation.
3/10/2018 5:20:43 PM
finished 2017 up 112% YoYso I'm up 29% I put in another lump during the "correction" and each of those is up 10-25%
3/16/2018 5:57:38 PM
Bought a little more FB today
3/22/2018 6:25:01 PM
I've lost almost $500 this week.
3/22/2018 7:57:20 PM
I lost $18.5K today. $24K between today and yesterday.
3/22/2018 8:43:20 PM
^^ haha
3/22/2018 10:26:55 PM
I'm still pretty new and don't have that much invested yet. So I should have said, lost close to 10% in 2 days.
3/23/2018 3:17:02 AM
I check the market several times a day. With my aggressive stance, it is tough to see a $10-20K swing downward in a day or in repeated days, but most of the time, it comes right back up. Most of the stocks are trading on news and not fundamentals, so you just need a tough stomach to not panic.
3/23/2018 11:28:55 AM
3/23/2018 11:32:48 AM
Down $52K this week.
3/23/2018 5:45:55 PM
I don't know if I will ever have 50k to invest, let alone so much invested that I could lose that much in a week.
3/23/2018 5:51:42 PM
if you're never going to have $50k invested, you're wasting your time. hell, even that's a pretty paltry sum in terms of a goal. Like, if that's your goal, why even bother? what're you gonna do with $50k?the good news is that it's easy to far, far eclipse that sum...by at least an order of magnitude, and two orders of magnitude (or certainly approaching it--closer to that than 1 OOM) is attainable for many people if they save aggressively enough.this really raises the question, what is your goal? What are you saving and investing for? how much do you need for that, and when?i'm prob down a 5-figure sum this week. Nowhere near 50k. i'm 38, and have never earned more than a military salary (even my engineering job was the same $ or less as I made in the USMC...so, good money, but certainly nothing crazy. New job is considerably more per day, but only part time). Point is, I probably had $50k saved up by the time I was about 27, when I was making $50-60k or something. It sounds like a lot until you get there...then pretty soon you can gain or lose that much in a big market swing...then pretty soon, well, you get the idea. You will never, ever get there if you're just saving whatever extra you have, though. There will never be enough extra. Figure out how much you need to be saving, have it automatically drafted out of your pay or checking account every month, and let it go like clockwork if you possibly can. 3/23/2018 10:40:33 PM
So who has to eat the cracker?
3/24/2018 11:11:39 PM
^^I save aggressively but invest hesitantly. The goal right now for my wife and I is to get to somewhere between 80-100k for a down payment on a house 3-5 years from now. We're roughly around 50k right now and will definitely be where we need to be.My wife doesn't want anything to do with stocks so it's just been me giving investing a couple of hundred a month (up to $8500 now). I was up nearly 12% overall before the big drop in January, made it all back, and now after this past week my gains are down to just +1%.I've also put just about 10k in a retirement fund over the past few years but I've been scared to check the status.
3/26/2018 4:03:35 AM
^ a bit off of the thread's topic now but you should be able to show your wife pretty clearly the gains you are getting which will lead to getting to a goal higher - of course there is risk thoughhopefully you aren't referring to 10k as your total retirement savings and you mean that you have put 10k/yr for the past few years
3/26/2018 2:10:30 PM
Up $23.5K today. One more day like today before earnings and I’ll be back up to an all time high.
3/26/2018 2:59:51 PM
Nice little pop at the end of the day. $28.8K made back. $20K to go.

3/26/2018 6:29:52 PM
in general i don't include my IRA / 401k in any stock market conversations although yeah they are investments - i view them in a separate retirement category
3/26/2018 9:28:59 PM
I look at total swing, but 80% is non IRA and 20% is IRA.
3/26/2018 10:47:19 PM
I'm more like 98% IRA / 2% non-IRA, so evaluating daily fluctuations seems kind of trivial when I'm 25 years away from touching most of it. last week was too brutal not to take notice though.
3/27/2018 12:23:02 AM
I was counting them separate. I use the Stash app for my investments, and I only put in what is leftover at the end of each month after all other bills and monthly living expenses are covered. My retirement account is contributed automatically through direct deposit, set amount taken out of each paycheck (but no matching )

Anyone watching spot? Put in a 140 limit order when it was supposed to open at 132. Will probably just hold off for now though. Opened at 165 and presently at 153.
4/3/2018 2:38:08 PM
spot came out the gates wayyyyyy too high.

^^, well you got filled if it was a GTC order.

Took a bath after a nice rebound late last week. Used to like Trump, now I hate him
4/4/2018 4:36:10 PM
^^ would assume he had a buy limit since he said he'll just hold off since it opened inflated. Or yea he caught an early print.
4/4/2018 5:34:29 PM
^^Anyone paying attention to the way he talked about trade deals during the election should have seen this coming.
4/4/2018 5:38:10 PM
Biggest holding ($225K) is Amazon and lots in FAANG stocks. His attacking AMZN is ludicrous as they do pay taxes on anything they sell and they pay the same rate as any bulk shipper with USPS. I personally think AMZN is propping up the USPS from insolvency and his consistent tweeting about a company sent the stock down 3-5% daily for a week straight. Don’t want to sell on news/garbage trash talk, but hard to watch it fall $35K+ in a week with no fundamental shift behind it.
4/4/2018 7:12:29 PM
^^ No shit.^^^^ He is fucking loathsome regardless of his impact on the markets, but strictly from an investor's perspective, we had a hell of a run-up due to hopes and dreams of what he (and the Congressional GOP) might do, but everything of consequence that he's actually done has fucked things up from a market perspective.-tax cut caused a pull back, due to it being ill-timed and likely to cause the Fed to raise rates more-3x he's moved on trade protectionism, with the market taking it in the face all 3x-immigration policy proposals don't help-bad mouthing AMZN and other companies[Edited on April 4, 2018 at 8:45 PM. maybe you're just invested in the wrong stocks. My Lockheed Martin, Alcoa, and US Steel holdings have been doing well directly because of Trump.
4/5/2018 12:56:33 AM
Lockheed Martin has been headed up since 2012. Seems ridiculous to contribute any current upward movement directly to Trump.
4/5/2018 6:35:01 AM
Historically, they've done great. Up 65-85% over the past 18-24 months as a result of them, but my memory is short term and after I've had the increase for a while, I don't see it as profit, but my base and now he's fucking with the new profit. I also put $300K+ into the market in February, which may have been ill timed. Looking at futures today though, I should be getting within 3-4% of my all time high. Now with more money in the market, little movements in percentages equal big movements with money. After 5-10 days of getting slaughtered, it makes you weary.
4/5/2018 8:36:53 AM
lol we got fucked today
4/6/2018 5:47:42 PM
I feel like Trump has shorted the entire market
4/6/2018 7:09:43 PM
fucked again by the the very stable genius. Could we just, like, install a golf course at the White House? With hookers?
