also still think we could trade up to get a longterm DE. Likelihood of both Pepp and CJ to suddenly just fall off is way higher than either JStew or Olsen individually. That being said, if DG thinks Fournette or Howard are truly unique players for their position -- then lock em up
4/18/2017 5:45:29 PM
Trading up seems like an even worse idea than drafting McCaffrey.
4/18/2017 6:00:46 PM
I like that DE from Stanford, he made UNC's o-line look like bitches in their bowl game. Wouldn't want to trade up for him though. Trading down for McCaffrey? I'd rather just draft Cook.
4/18/2017 7:01:18 PM
I don't love taking fournette but man he'd be tough to contain in our scheme... and cam is at his best in 3rd and short. I could get behind that pick I guess. McCaffrey doesn't seem all that valuable to me unless you plan on converting him to an Edelman/Welker type. I think he will struggle with injuries tho.Fournette is NFL ready and out cam, short, star, luke window might only have 1-2 more years
4/18/2017 7:08:01 PM
The only way you're getting a franchise DE (garrett, dude from stanford) is trading for one of the top two spots and it's not worth it. Not with what will be available at 8.
4/18/2017 8:26:34 PM
Haha, Cook at #8 would be an even worse pick than McCaffery. Cook's stock has plummeted after a mediocre combine, mediocre pro day, multiple injuries in the past, and his off-the-field stuff. We'd have a better shot trading up into the late 1st to get Cook, but honestly the best strategy might be wait on RB and take Kamara in the 2nd if he's there at our first pick in the 2nd.
4/19/2017 9:09:39 AM
I'd still rather have Cook than McCaffrey. McCaffrey had good combine/pro day numbers because he's been training specifically for those drills for 4+ months. His game tape shows he doesn't play with 4.4 speed and he doesn't break tackles. There's a reason he's not working out for teams individually, and it's because it will only hurt his stock.I'm sure he'll be a fine punt returner/slot receiver, but he won't be the workhorse back in a power running game.
4/19/2017 9:27:23 AM
Honestly, I'd have no problem trading up to 4-5 and giving up the 64th pick (our second 2nd round) if it meant we'd get Fournette, Thomas, or Adams/Hooker instead of McAffrey or Cook. Maybe I'm in the minority with that. The only guy I'd want at #8 aside from those four is the TE Howard, and Myles Garrett of course.
4/19/2017 11:22:05 AM
I'd be fine moving up for Adams, he's my top pick for us, fits a need and I think he's going to be a big-time player. I'd also be fine to move up for Thomas or Fournette as well, though I'm not as bullish on those 2 as I am on Adams. I don't think Hooker is a good fit for us, so I'd be a little bummed if we moved up for him as I think the odds he falls to us aren't that crazy. I just hope we don't do something crazy like reach and take Obi at #8, I know a lot of people are very high on him and reports he could go much higher than he's being mocked. I've actually seen Josh Jones being mocked in the late 2nd, that wouldn't bother me if our draft went something like: Thomas/Allen/Howard/Barnett with our 1st, Kamara with our next pick, and then Josh Jones.[Edited on April 19, 2017 at 1:19 PM. Aside from traveling to Foxboro in week 4, I like the schedule for the most part[Edited on April 20, 2017 at 9:43 PM. Reason : .]
4/20/2017 9:42:47 PM
Yep. Schedule pretty much guarantees us to improve over 2016. Cam's throwing accuracy after shoulder surgery will be the wildcard for us going from single to double digit wins.
4/26/2017 9:18:39 PM
starting to talk myself into wanting to draft OJ Howardhe fills a couple of holes
4/27/2017 9:54:13 AM
Entirely too much "McCaffrey is a good fit for the Panthers" talk going on for my liking.
4/27/2017 10:06:02 AM
It's weird. Reports are all over the place. Guys we apparently "love": Adams, Thomas, Fournette, McCaffery. One report that we told Thomas that if he was there at #8 we would pick him. We're just in reaction mode at #8, I'd say McCaffery is our floor at #8 on picks, but I'm still holding out hope that a guy like Adams, Thomas, Fournette, or Allen fall to us.
4/27/2017 10:53:26 AM
Adams won't fall. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me to see him go #2.I could see the OSU DBs fall, because they all have issues (and I'd rather not take them anyways).

I want barnett, possibly by trading back
4/27/2017 12:49:44 PM
I would be seriously excited about OJ Howard... I honestly didn't think he would be around by 8th pick. III
4/27/2017 12:52:37 PM
Just don't pick up McCaffrey at #8..... He will be good enough but he isn't worth the 8 at what he brings/lacks III[Edited on April 27, 2017 at 12:55 PM. Reason : .]

It's so funny how people covet the top 10 picks like they are guaranteed gold.Mel Kiper Jr has made a career out of being wrong 75% of the time.

man, we're gonna draft a white guy
4/27/2017 8:51:43 PM
OJ Howard lets go!

4/27/2017 9:05:57 PM
Horrible
4/27/2017 9:08:55 PM
I don't think he is a good fit for us but I trust gettleman will just have to wait and see I guess
4/27/2017 9:09:33 PM
he has value at 3 positionsnot thrilled initially, but know I can talk myself into italso lol at all the herbs shitting on two top-8 picks for sitting out their bowl games
4/27/2017 9:17:39 PM
I don't think it's horrible. I am just fairly un-enthused by the pick. But he was fun as hell to watch at Stanford. Hope it translates.
4/27/2017 9:18:28 PM
oh well, let's see what he does.
4/27/2017 9:19:18 PM
Part of my concern is just that I dislike Shula and I'm not confident he'll play to mccaffery's strengths.
4/27/2017 9:20:14 PM
Dude seems kinda small for a RB. Hope he can stay healthy
4/27/2017 9:32:35 PM
You people are crazy. This was a fucking awesome pick!We need this type of player who can move with Cam. And he's smart and gotta motor. No more dumb players. I'm tired of them.
4/27/2017 9:58:38 PM
Darren Spoles was really fucking good in his prime. Just sayin.
4/27/2017 10:01:18 PM
If he's Darren sproles I'd take that in a heartbeat. No argument about that from me. I do wonder about how Shula will use him. I think he could turn out great...I just think the offense needs some adjustments for us to maximize his skills
4/27/2017 10:05:53 PM
He's also a good bit bigger than Sproles
4/27/2017 10:10:14 PM
more of a WR profile really, but definitely heavy enough to RB @ 5'11" 202
4/27/2017 10:53:33 PM
Everyone in the division is leveling up
4/27/2017 11:28:11 PM
Not who I wanted. Not that I'm against a white RB, I just don't like an RB at 8 at all.
4/28/2017 12:52:24 AM
Sports Illustrated gave us an A- for the pick. CBS Sports gave us a D. #opinions

I don't think McCaffery will be returning any punts/kicks in the NFL, but I do think he has good value as a 3rd down RB and change-of-pace for JStew. He'll never be a 3-down back and that's really not his strength. I read some opinions that he was actually the best WR in this draft. I think the goal would be to mimic how Bell and David Johnson are used, able to flex him out and move him around. I just don't trust our offense to utilize his strengths.
