Nice win over a top 25 team. Crazy that all the teams that had big wins this weekend seemed to lose big tonight -- GT, VT, and Miami all got worked. UVA went down too.

The first half might have been the most "complete" half I've seen NC State play under Gott. Great execution, defense, and hustle.

We took our foot off the gas in the 2nd and got sloppy, but that's pretty natural. VT was in desperation mode and we were trying to waste time.

Gotta clean that up vs UNC, but I feel a lot better about the team tonight. Hopefully Miami was just nerves

I watched the game at Brickhouse during/after trivia. I agree it's the best I've ever seen us play under Gottfried. Incredible hustle on both sides of the ball in the first half. We got a little showboaty and turned it over in the process a few times but I guess we had a big enough cushion that it didn't matter in the end.

Watching the ticket prices at the Dean Dome drop as weather reports come in. May try to make a trip out there.

just wish gottfried would have called a quick timeout in the 2nd half when our offense reverted to jacking up terrible long 2s/3s. we just stopped trying to run offense for almost the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half.

Yeah. That was my only quibble with the game. We got super sloppy for the first 5 minutes of the second half. Luckily, they just about matched us. Very ugly basketball.

I always wonder why Gottfried doesn't ever utilize the timeout early when things are spiraling. I'd also love to see him trot out the walk-ons for a minute when we are playing lazy D and turning the ball over for a few possessions in a row.

^^^, ^^^^ You know he called a timeout 3 minutes and 17 seconds into the 2nd half? They got a steal and hit that 3 for a 10-0 run, then used the timeout and we went on a 6-0 run coming out of it.

Yeah and he should have used one earlier. There was no reason to be shooting those terrible shots when almost anyone the floor was getting to the rim with ease. Hell even Rowan was beating guys off the dribble.

What the fuck are you talking about he called a timeout 3 minutes into the half. Part of this is also about letting a team try to work through something as well, he gave them a chance to get it together, probably hoping to make it to the 4 min TV TO and rip into them and realized after that 3 pointer he used the timeout. We then immediately come out of that TO with a dunk and 6-0 run pretty much ending the game there. What coach calls a timeout coming out of half 2 minutes in with a 20 point lead if the other team just scored 5-7 points? His timeout was used exactly where it should have been in that situation relative to the score of the game.

This was true Gott system at it's most efficient. Your bigs get mainly all dunks and then if they can't they kick back out.


As you said though, even Rowan was showing out trying to get that jam. If he would have hit that dunk

The DSJ dunk in last night was pretty impressive. That kid can jump and take his man every time.

He has really delivered on the hype of a program changing player.

I'm resigned to the fact that DSJ is going to fire up at least three shit shots a game -- usually long two point jumpers and WTF fadeaways. I think it's him being a little lazy while also trying to show out for the NBA scouts. One of those take-the-good-with-the-bad deals.

Also, I thought Maverick could shoot threes or something? He's been awful from deep this year but money in the mid-range.

Luckily Dorn has been way better than expected.

He was 33% last year and is 31% this year. Not too far off.

His shot selection was a lot tougher last year...but he also missed a lot of games because of the concussion and is still working his way back into a groove. I'd expect his shooting to continue to improve.

I like that he's using the dribble to get a shot closer to the basket, the defender never seems to expect it. Still has that reputation of a catch and shoot guy.

In that 3 minutes, they went on a 10-0 run and there were 7-8 completely disasterous possessions by us. If they didn't have 2-3 TO in there themselves, it could have been a larger run. I'd contend he should have called a timeout after 2 bad possessions.

But this is a thing that has always annoyed me about Gott. He continuinly waits 3-4 bad possessions too long to try to bring us out of a funk.

If I remember correctly there were two terrible fouls called in that time span. One on Yurtseven who got all ball then that terrible charge call on DSJ. There is no way ANYONE can get in front of him and stop their feet. I'd be yelling at the refs instead of calling TO.

It's easy to know that you'd have called a timeout after 3-4 more bad possessions have already happened.

Try making that call in real time and get back to us. Gott could just have easily called the timeout after bad possession 8 and interfered with them finally pulling themselves out of the slump.
