My favorite misspeak of the night was Hillary saying Trump believes that women don't deserve equal pay unless they do as good a job as men. Might of been even more unintentionally WTF than Trump saying we have to get better at the cyber.

Yup, I think Hillary won that debate, she was much better prepared, Donald self combusted about halfway through and went off the rails on a couple of issues.

Gotta say, a couple of the questions were just stupid, especially that last one.

I feel like he got trounced at the end. It went off the rails when he wouldn't stop mentioning Sean Hannity. That was horrible.

Two of Lester's questions were obviously teed up for Clinton.

If the election were tomorrow, I't probably be Clinton.

I was pleasantly surprised by Lester Holt.

It shows you how much of a narcissist Trump is that he had the emails teed up for him and instead of hammering her on it he went in to a ten minute diatribe on Hannity and Iraq. Bizarre.

yeah but you have to understand trump is running more against the media than he is clinton. if he can defeat the msm, he wins. hillary has already been defeated.

with that said, he lost bad tonight any way you cut it.

He's not running against the media. They eat him up.

He stayed on message, unfortunately his only message is "I'm a businessman, and I can fix America through good business."

Clinton really acted more presidential, but I don't think that will matter to many because many know that she's had a lifetime of practice being a politician. She was the first lady FFS. She knows how to be presidential.

The only real winner tonight was Gary Johnson who just looks so much better as an option now for undecided voters. Assuming they know who he is or that he is ever discussed on the news in the next week.

Can we finally have a real conversation about temperament.

And how winning is an outcome and not a temperament.

[Edited on September 26, 2016 at 10:59 PM. Reason : CNN talking about a guy who got tea-bagged at UNC right now]

Just skip CNN, it doesn't even pretend to be news anymore.

Seriously, do yourself a favor and tune in to BBC and other foreign agencies for your US News and politics. Only watch cable news if you want to know what bullshit and spin the candidate's mouthpieces are putting out there.

Worst case scenario for Hillary would have been Trump acting boring and restrained. That definitely did not happen. Great night for her, hands down.

What better answer? He blatantly, unabashedly, racist lied for years and years, after obama released the short form, after he released the long form. He has no good answer to that. It should have disqualified him a long time ago from even getting to this point.

Trump literally has ADD or some other issue going on. He's talking about temperament, goes off about madison avenue, catches himself and says out loud "oh, temperament" then gets back on track.

If Hillary's Correct the Record campaign can do even half of what Trump supporters claim it can do with a budget of 5 million dollars, she could balance the US budget in seconds.

While that was indeed a dumb and shallow remark, I also heard someone list "He wasn't wearing his usual red tie" as one of the criticisms of Trump tonight.

Of all the things you could criticize trump for, it's that?

I don't know which was my favorite moment:

Pondering what Douglas MacArthur would think of Clinton's website

"That makes me smart."

The very, very long diversion into how lonely Sean Hannity feels

The comparison of US airports to "third world" airports. Donald, why don't you swing by in your private jet and I'll show you the joys of Cotonou International, one wall of which is held up by logs.

The 400 pound hackers sitting on their beds.

Quote :
"This might be the dumbest final question of all time. Will you accept the results of this election? Really."

I wish it were so dumb. Trump has already said that the only way he can lose Pennsylvania (where he's down several points) is if there is cheating and fraud. Which sounds disturbingly like somebody who is laying the groundwork for a refusal to accept results.

Quote :
"from 2001 to 2008 everyone bitched about how we were in Iraq to take the oil, but now people don't think that's possible?"

Well I don't think that's why we were there, but even if we were, I don't think the plan (or, you know, physical possibility) called for completely draining Iraq's oil supply by 2012.

---

I had hoped for a better Clinton performance. It's not that I think she did badly, by any means, she just faltered on delivery occasionally and didn't have one of those coups de grace that define a contest every few years. As someone else said, she's good at winding him up but not great at the killshot. And overall I'd be sleeping better if she had landed some crushing blow that put her up by some staggering margin for the duration.

But one thing gave me hope. Trump's material was all pretty stale, the same attacks and half-baked positions he trots out at every rally or phone call to a news outlet. Clinton had some fresh arrows in her sling. The anecdote about Alicia Machado there at the end springs to mind. Doesn't look like that's going to blow up into another Khan situation (which is doubtless what she, and I, were hoping), but I'm glad that Clinton can dig up fresh scandals.

And, of course, it's only the first debate. If she has something killer to use, be it a scandal or even just a really devastating line, there's a lot to be said for saving it until a later round so that the bounce has less time to subside.

I think her strategy of admitting it was a mistake is about the best thing she can do. Bernie Sanders said America was sick of hearing about these emails A YEAR AGO (last October) yet republicans keep bringing it up. It was true then and it is doubly true now.

I just don't think undecided voters care as much about the emails as republicans think they do.

Everyone's points about how poorly this went for Trump are valid, but I'm honestly pretty pessimistic about how this plays out with the electorate.

Did you get trounced? Absolutely, as most knew he would. But how bad was this really in the world of Trump? He didn't talk about his dick, he didn't insult a gold star family, and he didn't insist on forcing the military to commit war crimes. All in all, a bit under par for him really.

Clinton had an amazing chance at a killshot but didn't take it.

Quote :
"“I think Donald just criticized me for preparing for this debate. And yes, I did,” Clinton said. “And you know what else I prepared for? I prepared to be president. And I think that’s a good thing.”"

Just equating that to Trump in any way. Just slightly more insinuation that he has not prepared to be President.

Personally, I feel like Clinton spent too much time defending herself against many of Trumps accusations. I had hoped she'd spend more time on message, and try to draw in Undecideds across the spectrum by detailing some of her plans.

Each candidate already has their base pretty well locked up, and of course there's a lot of people out there that know Trump's a fool. By spending so much of her time defending herself against him rather than just dismissing him she not only validates him (at least to his supporters) she loses the opportunity to make him look even more like a petulant child by just ignoring him.

Stay on topic, sell yourself to voters that are on the fence one way or another.

The real core of what the debate meant wasn't that Trump got destroyed, because sadly, he didn't. He lost badly, but he did not lose in any spectacular way that is going to fracture his base. But it did show Clinton looking sharp, prepared, and healthy -- healthier than Trump, I'd say, who clearly had some kind of nose thing going on and drank a great deal more water than Clinton in spite of predictions that she'd be guzzling it down.

And that kind of hale and hearty display is evidently important, given that the collapse of Clinton's lead seems to be largely a result of having gotten sick once.

Apparently the Trumpkins are now complaining about the "mysterious bulge on her back" and are claiming she had an earpiece giving her talking points. It's not like she was wearing a wireless microphone that is visible in multiple photographs or anything

Interestingly enough, they're also complaining that Holt kept interrupting Trump, LOOOOOOOOOOOL
