i like discovery well enough and thought picard was awful

i have watched all the abrams movies, and not particularly interested in watching them again (enjoyed them as popcorn flicks but not as something that deepens the star trek universe).I really like Discovery, and have enjoyed picard through the 7 episodes I have seen so far.

it took me awhile to get into discovery. probably because orville came out around the same time. but the more i watched, the more I got into it and cared about the characters and plot. it was a similar learning curve with picard, even though i knew the most prominent characters. By the end of picard... the last episode... (spoiler break...)I was in tears.

^ the ending of picard was what it needed to be, and I think was nearly perfect. If i'm honest with myself it was a little dull to get there.I really like all the characters in Picard though, and I think season 2 is setup to potentially be amazing.I'm still expecting some kind of crossover with Discovery though. And it would be cool to see a story arc that wraps up whatever Captain Sisko has been up to in the wormhole.

Sisko's just been playing baseball with the prophets. THE WHOLE TIME.

It's taken me 2 weeks to power through episodes 8-12. Ugh I just want this to be over. It's so bad.I have to push through because my free trial ends in like 2 days.]

Season 3 intro was amazing. The 3rd episode was a little weird but still liking it overall.

My biggest criticism so far is all the characters are too nice, even the bad guys. The series needs more of an edge.

Good episode but too much relationship drama [Edited on November 21, 2020 at 12:19 AM. Reason : ]

Aargh. I like the storyline but this is too saccharine. It’s like This is Us in space sometimes.

OT: Anyone watch the DS9 Documentary, What We Left Behind?Watched it back in March, April? after rewatching DS9. Made me swoon a bit.

^^moron... Are you on reddit?

Just finished Discovery s3. I agree with some of the saccharine comments... still slightly better than CW crying tho I thought that the story was amazing, and it’s nuts to see how different this show has been from season to season. I think they’ve really hit their stride as far as blending all different eras of Star Trek into a very satisfying continuation of the universe. Now that they’re not as tethered to the pre-TOS era, it’s really start to breathe.

^^ huh? Why?This newest season is just not good. Why does Burnham have such a creepy smile? There are individual elements that are great but the whole is lesser than the sum of the parts. Episodes have been harder to get throughDoctor guy is weirdly annoying and two dimensional. Bridge crew doesn’t have The synergy of tng/DS9 I think they’ve veered too far away from the military discipline of the past series. And even the technobabble feels off somehow. They give too much explanation sometimes and not enough at other times.

^I don't remember exactly, but probably you said something that was similar to something I read on reddit. I guess?Discovery is my least favorite Trek.

^ yeah I’m on Reddit and probably shared this sentiment there tooI can’t figure out how they managed to make the show so boring despite all the otherwise cool parts of the setting.
