you guys heard the tiny bit of Gremlins theme in the music when dart escapes the ghost trap right? i’m not just imagining that?

Not only was the Dustin-Steve combo great, but the whole Steve and the party was great, super Goonies vibe. Also +1 for using BASIC to save lives.

haven’t read any posts from this season, but this Suicide Squad ep is awful
10/31/2017 8:36:27 PM
I fell asleep during ep7 was worried I might have missed something important glad to find out the extra sleep was worth it haha
11/1/2017 8:35:37 AM
I assume the showrunners felt like they needed a standalone episode for Millie Bobby Brown, and Ep 7 is what they gave us.Strange indeed.Enjoyed this season!***SPOILER****For whatever reason, I was pissed they went back to the TOP view of Bob getting devoured by the dema-dogs. Why oh why what was that shot ever needed.

I just finished episode 7... so far it's OK. Is it me or did they go overboard with ALL of the 80s references, including the music. It was like they were trying to put too many songs in the story. The nostalgia is over the top... too many Member Berries.
11/1/2017 1:18:20 PM
^I thought most of them were subtle or just winks. Also since it's taking place in the 1980s I think most of them work. I laughed at the Goonies reference by Sean Astin, "An X? What's at the X, pirate treasure?"I also got a kick out of the Durham/RTP mentions of Jordan Lake and the Eno River.
11/1/2017 1:54:28 PM
well the Duffer Bros. are from Durham
11/1/2017 2:14:24 PM
Yeah I know. I didn't say it was some insane coincidence, I'm saying I got a kick out of it.
11/1/2017 2:31:09 PM
Just finished it, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll even give Billy a pass. This whole show is about nostalgia, and drawing in children of the 80's, and it works very well. While I wasn't in middle school in the 80's, that whole middle school dance scene brought me back. Can't wait for a season 3 if there is one.
11/1/2017 11:13:10 PM
I went to high school with the Duffer bros..who wants my autograph?
11/1/2017 11:21:23 PM
^ha! me too. I was ahead of them by two years though, never knew them.
11/2/2017 9:16:24 AM
Woo, Go Falcons!
11/2/2017 9:24:49 AM
Goonies never say die.
11/2/2017 11:57:28 AM
this show has some of the most obvious writing that I’ve ever seenwhich is fine for a kids show, but gets old really quick. I doubt I’ll watch a third season of it.

^^It isn't like any of us here are being fooled by this show.I think we all know exactly what we're getting, what we're going to get, and we're ok with it.

Steve and Dusty could have their own spin-off, they were great. The only thing I can figure out about Billy is that they have to be planning a Season 3 where he has a complete turn-around and saves the day. You could literally remove his character from this season and nothing would change, he was completely useless and was only being setup as a complete dick. He wasn't even really an antagonist, he was just background fodder with scenes of him being a dick to Steve, being a dick to Max, and trying to dick Mike's mom. Though in the shower scene I really thought he was about to make a move on Steve, haha.Steve and Bob definitely stole the season. ***SPOILER***Problem was, the INSTANT I saw Bob was with Will's mom, it was obvious he wasn't going to survive the season.[Edited on November 6, 2017 at 8:08 AM. I heard the Duffer bros talking, and they def. saw Billy as a protagonist. He'll be back. But they've already done the "asshole-at-first-then-saves-the-day" arc with Steve.
11/6/2017 9:01:49 AM
I thought Max was gonna end up having powers and thats why they moved there and Billy was mad because his family agreed to help her out or whatever and he got stuck in some small ass town where he didn't want to be.

i remember briefly wondering if they were russian child spies or something

I thought the second season was just about as good as the first.... and I didn't mind the tangent 11 episode. It was unnecessary, but I didn't mind it too much.Did anyone catch the other goonies reference when it had Cyndi Lauper playing (who did the Goonies theme), and the older girl dances with Dustin and tells him something like "once you get older, you're going to drive the girls wild".... The older girl in the Goonies who accidentally kisses Sean Astin say something like "if your body keeps up with your tongue, you're going to drive the girls wild" at the end.

I remember reading that they meant for Steve to be some asshole who probably dies or whatever, but they liked the actor too much and needed to have him turn. Maybe Billy is what they really meant Steve to be.
11/6/2017 10:56:35 PM
Billy makes his big turn to good guy next season when he gets with Steve. That dynamic hair power-couple is going to tear up the Upside Down.
11/7/2017 10:36:48 AM
Finally got around to finishing this. Poor Bob .
11/8/2017 8:49:11 AM
Like many others, I found episode 7 to be annoying but an obvious setup for the sister to return later (probably as an adversary before turning into an ally). The second season of any series always seems to receive tougher scrutiny since it is no longer "new", but I enjoyed it and I can't wait to see where it goes from here. I just hope they don't completely jump the shark like House of Cards before we found out Kevin Spacey was a sex predator.

Keep the scope small. Keep the cast of characters small. Keep the 80's nostalgia coming. That's all they need to do with seasons 3 and 4. It's not like viewers are asking for much. This show is pure escapism for late 30's early 40's folks, and people who generally like the 80's.Here is another thing that I like about this show, and period pieces in general. Modern suspense and drama is getting more difficult to achieve with our technology. It's harder to create missed meet-ups when you can just text or call from wherever. In the 80's, if you weren't near a payphone and needed to get in touch, you were screwed. Also, these days, parents of 10,11, 12 year olds, etc, can literally track their children down geographically with their phones. When I was that age, if I told my parents I was going to a friends house, then we went off in the woods to go fishing or do whatever, they were none the wiser. And even a few years younger than that. It felt like we were going on an actual adventure. I feel like you can't do that these days.
11/8/2017 10:52:07 AM
I actually thought it was 10 episodes, so I kinda thought they closed up the gate a little too easily/quickly. Like El just came back and remembered trying to move something once and poof it's over.I still enjoyed it. I actually thought maybe Kali was going to show up and keep the monster out of Will's head somehow. So it didn't really bother me but I guess since that didn't happen it was pointless.

Supposedly they are going to start shooting season 3 in March and it will explore Hawkins in the summer vs. fall/winter
11/8/2017 2:25:09 PM
Nothing better than summertime in the 80's - but they won't have school to base jokes and plot around.
11/8/2017 3:22:38 PM
The summer approach could be interesting. Maybe a little "Stand by Me" nostalgia.
11/9/2017 10:25:23 AM
(they already had some Stand By Me nostalgia... when they walked in pairs down the train tracks. And when that kid puts a knife to Dustin's neck at the quarry. Will also had a secret knock at his fort. There's probably more. Billy will probably evolve even more into a Kiefer-character (Ace).

I absolutely loved this season. I thought it was much better than the previous year. It was just a good mystery/adventure and I really enjoyed that the characters were split apart (especially towards the middle) and working through all of these quests to catch up with the main story line. It all eventually comes together and the whole season just flowed really well. Even episode 7 felt like it was needed to make 11even understand that she has a family and a home that she belongs to and is needed at. Bob, oh Samwise. I didn't see it coming because I don't think the show has ever set us up for a likable character to die but I am gonna miss the Swiss army knife of season 2. Really loved how the showrunners also left us wondering if the new doctors and lab operators were evil or good and it was a relief to see that the head doc was really good. Steve massively redeems himself this season (he kind of did last season as well) and I really liked that he was the babysitter. The punching scene maybe was a bit overboard but Steve became my favorite character after Bob's death. Just keep the same formula and originality and I will love season 3 and 4 even more.
11/9/2017 12:32:17 PM
the wife and i really loved this season. the happy ending had us confused a little... hope it sets up something sinister for season 3.

So I just started rewatching Season 1 after having seen Season 2.So, in S1E1, did Eleven unlock Will's door for the Demogorgon so it would get him and not her in the ensuing escape and pursuit from the lab? If not, is it just a one-off use of telekinesis by the Demogorgon? The exact same shot is used in season two when Eleven comes to the rescue. It would explain some of what motivates her helping the boys and her apparent guilt. Opening the Gate was an accident. Diverting the Demogorgon towards Will would have been a choice.

The flickering lights in the hospital scene made me nauseated,
7/4/2019 8:07:21 PM
You should complain. Maybe Netflix will stop that as well as showing Hop smoking.
7/5/2019 12:52:41 PM
they have a warning, first time i've ever had such a severe reaction
7/5/2019 12:59:32 PM
So how was it ?
7/5/2019 6:14:26 PM
Pretty good, definitely worth a watch. There were a few parts that dragged out but not many. The story line was also a bit better without all the upside-down parts, or at least better than it was last season when it felt a bit tired at times.
