Pitiful
11/24/2018 2:54:26 PM
Awfully predictable on 3rd down there.
11/24/2018 2:55:02 PM
I guess the game plan worked??I don't know if it's Eli or DD but that possession end of the first half was painful. Just lackadaisical, no intent to score.
11/24/2018 4:14:08 PM
I’m perfectly happy now.

Twitter say new will be App State's new coach
12/13/2018 8:48:42 AM
who knew the firing of Petrino before our game against them would totally change our offensive coaching staff, lol
12/13/2018 8:59:34 AM
Good luck (Don't try and poach any recruits plz)!
12/13/2018 9:10:25 AM
Oh boy! A coaching search to get excited about! (Sorry an OL coaching search doesn’t do it for me...but a OC search will)
12/13/2018 9:26:52 AM
I have some solid ideas for a new OC:Larry FedoraBobby PetrinoArt BrilesUrban Meyer]
12/13/2018 9:30:29 AM
Is Ledford's move to Louisville official yet? I say just offer him the OC job if not
12/13/2018 9:42:26 AM
Might as well start from scratch everywhere since our secondary is shit. Well, keep Kitchings and McDonald I guess
12/13/2018 9:46:04 AM
Lol Rooks commitment had me thinking we maybe turned a page. Never change State.
12/13/2018 9:52:02 AM
^huh? Our OC left for a HC gig. This isn’t part of the mythical NC State shit. This shouldn’t set our program back. Timing isn’t bad with us breaking in a new QB next year.Ledford hasn’t officially been announced, but I think it’s a done deal. [Edited on December 13, 2018 at 9:54 AM. Reason : G]
12/13/2018 9:53:28 AM
Yeah having your OL coach get an OC gig, and then your OC getting a HC gig...that's a good problem to have. It makes your program that much more enticing because there is stability and guys can move up. My guess is we go with a Co-OC approach and have Des Kitchings be RB Coach and Co-OC focused on the running game, and then you hire a QB Coach/Co-OC focused on the passing game, but not really sure how you divvy up play-calling responsibilities.

Justin already has an account on app state message boards with lots of great red zone content[Edited on December 13, 2018 at 10:13 AM. Reason : A]

Yes, I started an account on an ECU message board to discuss the App State head coach.Idiot.

Come to NC State to be a Co-OC. Get good enough and you'll get a sunbelt job. My bad guys. Needed that perspective.
12/13/2018 12:22:33 PM
^ our OC getting a HC job is not a negative sign for our program. don't act like HC at App State is equal to OC at NC State. it's a clear step up for Drinkwitz who everybody knows has wanted be a HC. our OL coach leaving for the OC position at an equal school (with a coach he has a history with) is not a negative sign for our program. tons of schools, even pretty damn good schools, lose coordinators and position coaches to promotions. it's ok. our program is healthy right now. none of this is a sign to the contrary.[Edited on December 13, 2018 at 12:36 PM. 12/13/2018 12:34:06 PM
Yeah I feel like he should have waited on a better HC job to open up, like Alabama or USC or Notre Dame.
12/13/2018 12:39:29 PM
hell...App was hard after Bama co-OC Josh Gattis. so yeah... the "come to state and leave for the lowly sun belt" is just kinda dumb.
12/13/2018 12:43:11 PM
Hell, App is a better job than ECU. PROVE ME WRONG.
12/13/2018 12:48:12 PM
Not sure app isn't better than us[Edited on December 13, 2018 at 1:08 PM. Reason : Currently. Not really as a program ]
12/13/2018 1:06:19 PM
^^i agree with that
12/13/2018 1:19:02 PM
App is a strong program that's done incredible things for such a young FBS program. They cracked the top 25 this year, too. Seems like a no-brainer for a "family man" that doesn't want to totally uproot his family, too. This worries me a bit. I've always credited Drinkwitz as the brains behind our operation. This is going to make recruits shaky, not saying they'll flip to App, but they're going to be paying close attention. I think an internal hire is the equivalent of us tucking our tails. I'd be really disappointed with that, although I get that it helps morale or whatever. I just don't see how it doesn't become a more watered-down, less proven version of what we already have. Any ideas on who else might be on the table?[Edited on December 13, 2018 at 1:21 PM. Reason : side note was hearing Drink to UTenn OC yesterday]
12/13/2018 1:20:20 PM
our offense, while different, ranked well when Matt Canada was here. he left, Drinkwitz came in and the offense kinda kept pace. the offenses aren't the same and i also think Drinkwitz deserves credit for improvements we saw in Finley. my point is, i'm not sure i agree with the notion that Drinkwitz was the brains behind the operation. seems to me that our identity and style hasn't changed a ton in DD's time here regardless of who the OC is. obviously play calling and specific things have changed, but it's not like Drinkwitz totally revamped everything.S&P Offensive rank under Canada....2013: 92 (very bad!), 2014: 40, 2015: 35. under Drinkwitz: 2016: 55, 2017: 21, 2018: 21. our offense has been good under Drinkwitz, i just don't buy that he's irreplaceable.IMO, our offense lacks explosiveness and we have obvious red zone deficiencies. but overall our O has been good. next year will be interesting with a new QB and new OC.
12/13/2018 1:54:50 PM
I think there was a big improvement over Canada and his predictable run, run, pass from deep to a curl/flat route that's short of a first down, punt. Drink definitely mixed in some more razzle dazzle, but I agree that he played it fairly conservatively most of the time. He had some creative plays that he built around unique personnel (Hines, Samuels, etc.). Definitely not saying he's irreplaceable or a mastermind of any sort, but I just don't want to see Kitching or somebody promoted (rushing ypg in the past 6 years ranked 85, 53, 90, 29, 38, 70 - and I'd wager the 53 came from Hines/Samuels). Who we hire is going to be extremely important as I don't think DD is much of a game/playcalling type of a coach, which is why I gave so much credit to Drink.
12/13/2018 2:23:21 PM
Seen a lotta people wanting to promote Kitchings but I feel like that’s more of a reaction to losing two offensive assistants and fans wanting to ensure continuity going forward. Then again, Kitchings turned down the Furman HC job a couple years ago...so they must’ve thought highly of him. I have no idea if he’d make a good OC.
12/13/2018 2:33:29 PM
Maybe our rushing yards were bad because of poor playcalling?I think Drinkwitz outsmarted himself in the redzone a lot of times. Especially this year. Harmon was criminally underused as a redzone weapon. If I recall he did the same thing his first year with Jaylen Samuels.
12/13/2018 2:38:30 PM
^^good point. I see where they were looking at him in 2016 but it appears to have been a money issue. the article below is almost entirely about how much it would cost and gives me the impression he was making as much or close to what they were offering already here ($300k). I'm not sure what Clay Hendrix ended up making, but I saw another document that says for all coaches in Furman's entire athletic department the salary is $2.5mhttps://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/sports/college/furman/2016/12/16/des-kitchings-furman-coach-not-hired-state/95508084/He's definitely respected but I just don't think we should promote him by default. I hope this creates an opportunity for a slam dunk type of hire, but I'm not sure how late to the game we are now.

Biggest criticism of drink was redone success. TD rate was 60% or less every season hes been an OC. Thats just not a good %...and when its been that way every season...its not a fluke...its an issue
