I am again going to go with let her live our her life if you feel she isn't in pain and suffering otherwise put her down and spend the time and resources on the many cats in need of help that aren't in such a bad situation.

I can appreciate that view. I don't want to give up on it, there is a surgery that can help her and maybe if we give it a shot we can get it.at least we tried
12/7/2015 3:06:53 PM
unfortunately this person is not competent to gather the resources and be proactive about getting that care

...and this is why stem cell research is needed

Updatethe good: found a great vet and vet tech duo to give her a thorough exam. Vet Tech was not even the slightest bit scared off by Serabi. The Vet knows a world renowned leader in pain management in cats and is consulting with them about this case. They did her blood panel, liver and kidney. the bad:the vet acknowledged that She believes Serabi has significant enough pain, which is why she has been given specially compounded pain meds. However, long term, if the pain cannot be alleviated the pain medicine will eventually shut her kidneys down and she would quickly deteriorate. The vet suggested that after all routes have been investigated, but the pain is still there, then the vet does recommend euthanasia.

So basically put the cat down now, or spend a couple grand and then put the cat down. Sounds like a logical choice is there even if it sucks.

So is this girl also one of those exotic animal enthusiasts? Has she ever owned a snake? If pressed, could she tell you exactly what a "sugar glider" is?
12/9/2015 10:55:49 AM
^^yep those are the options^since I consider myself in that category and you have added nothing to this thread, I'm just not going to answer. Plenty of assumptions have been made already, I'm not going to feed that.

animal hoarding is kinda gross
12/13/2015 10:03:54 AM
it's not animal hoarding, she takes in animals that need a home, she typically fosters until they are adopted. She is a big spay and neuter advocate, and I think I can speak for when saying that we both feel that animals deserve a fair shot at a decent life.
1/4/2016 10:52:31 AM
most animal hoarders are people who started out with a good heart rescuing animals, that's typical

klaty real talk what color is this girl's hair dyed
1/4/2016 4:54:58 PM
^^ ok so let's demonize anyone that tries to give a fuck ever??
1/5/2016 10:55:30 AM
I'm betting it's not a natural hair color. Like, she's not dyeing her shit chestnut. Is it a primary color? Is it a color that occurs in nature?

If it will make people feel better and that I am not a complete asshole our eldest cat has either cancer or is in the process of heart failure. I gave the ok to spend like $450 to have fluid removed from his lungs in hopes that he will stick around a bit longer even though they said it could only help for a few days possibly. After spending 2 days under the bed barely eating or drinking I decided to get under there and remove him and force him to actually move around or that was gonna be it. Luckily after being forced he seems to be doing better. His breathing is still labored but he doesnt have that I am ready to die look and is eating and meowing and enjoying getting petted again. I suspect we are looking at weeks tops but after not really spending much money on him over the years I figure $450 was worth giving my wife (was her cat since a baby) the chance to enjoy a bit more time with him and get prepared for closure.
1/18/2016 1:10:54 PM
^and in that case, sometimes that is better.to make you feel better that she isn't just a crazy person prolonging the suffering of a cat, she did just have her favorite cat die from heart failure. He went into labored breathing and was rushed to the vet. They said that they could remove the fluid, but the heart failure was going to take him sooner rather than later. I was there when she made the decision to let him go, and I was in the room when he was put to sleep. She told me she couldn't watch him suffer unnecessarily. To put the icing on the cake, she had people from her rescue trying to tell her that she should have had the fluid removed and had him taken to a heart specialist, she put her foot down and said that it was a loooong shot and she was not willing to have him spend his last days stressed and barely breathing. She has been in rescue a long time, and has had to watch them pour resources into lost causes that not only waste their funding, but make the animal suffer for awhile.anyway, I don't think you are a bad owner, good job trying to help your cat
1/18/2016 2:18:21 PM
Yeah they suggested all that crazy stuff costing thousands of dollars, but also said the cat was 13 so I mean he is old. I mean if it was me I probably would have just ended things that night after rushing to a vet and hearing what they had to say, but I told her if she wanted to just treat the symptoms and spend some more time with him I could understand that at least, even if it seems like logically it doesnt make a ton of sense.

Is it green? Blue? Orange? I'm betting blue or purple.

Well update on our cat. He passed away Thursday night just before the winter weather started up (3am). My best guess based on no medical knowledge is his heart gave out and he had a heart attack. I woke up to the sound of him struggling to breathe or like he was going to throw up then I realized he was just scared and clearly distressed falling over and running into things just trying to run. I picked him up to try and comfort him and he let out a terrible sounding meow and then just went stiff right in my hands. I layed him down on the floor and he twitched a few times, but it was clear he had passed. I was glad that it was me who got up because while it was a terrible feeling that I wont soon forget to have something die in your hands, I am also glad it wasnt my wife as she has had him since he was a kitten. Wasnt fun to have to answer when she asked if he was ok and I had to tell her no. We were forced into having to make it a quick process as we were about an hour out from the winter weather starting so we took him to the 24 hour vet to have him taken care of and they made a nice imprint of his paw for her to keep, which I thought was nice. I guess $450 seems like a lot for basically an extra week and a half, but he didnt seem to suffer until the very end and he was able to go out at home naturally rather than just going to sleep in a strange place, scared, as we watched. /story

not readin dat sad shit
1/27/2016 11:06:35 AM
^^ I'd definitely pay $450 for a good extra week with my dog...probably several times that. I hope we're a long ways away from something like (he's almost 4 years old)...but I can't even imagine how bad it's going to be. He's definitely our "child". Animals don't live long enough.

2/1/2016 4:28:42 PM
I think there's a point where you just have to accept it's a cat, not a person. Use that money towards some other good, maybe getting some good shit going with her other foster kitties.
2/13/2016 12:18:18 AM
and she knows that, but since being on some different pain meds, she has seen big improvement, so she wants to be sure she is doing everything for this girl. But this is not a long term thing, the pain meds she is on is eventually going to kill her liver, so she might not get to have a lot of time with her, and she knows that.she was caught on video actually chasing and playing, and she has been more tolerant/almost accepting of the other cats

How is Serabi doing?[Edited on March 22, 2016 at 4:39 PM. Reason : there's a point at which you have to accept that it's just a person, not a person you like. ]

I was cat sitting her this last week, I actually had her playing with me and she was chirping and calling at me, so sweet. With her pain meds, her quality of life has increased dramatically.thanks for asking

Her hair is blue, isn't it? I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air.

My cat is about 13 and he has become an affectionate eater. He never used to be. Wonder if this is common in aging cats. Basically affection eaters want comfort and presence while they are eating. He will stop eating or whine if I walk away.
