4/28/2015 10:22:07 AM
dude, they're young kids doing the kinds of dumb things young kids tend to dothings that I (and I'm assuming many more) did when I was young and stupidand I was a middle-class white kid
4/28/2015 10:23:08 AM
^ no you fucking didnt throw bricks at cops.
4/28/2015 10:23:52 AM
no, but I also didn't grow up as a young black kid who lived in fear on a daily basisand I also didn't live in an area that had been doused in gasoline for decades and finally had a match thrown onto it[Edited on April 28, 2015 at 10:35 AM. Reason : plenty of eggs, water balloons, and bottle rockets were thrown, though]

so since they cancelled school today, and most of these rioting kids probably depend on free school lunches during the week, should we expect grocery stores to be looted tonight?

Disorganized violence like this doesn't do much good, and actually helps to justify the horseshit us vs. them mentality that is at the root of the awful police culture. It makes the public react with horror and makes it seem like maybe the cops should be out there cracking some skulls.Sometimes violence is useful, an organized revolt is what started this country. It's what toppled the Tzar. We are quickly approaching a point where we could see full scale revolt against the cops and that would be wonderful because it could make real change happen, but all of this is going on in Baltimore is just a shitshow. It's angry people venting and it's also opportunists doing the same kind of thing they always do when there's an opportunity to get away with some shit. There's no question that the cops who killed this guy should be prosecuted. At minimum they committed some form of manslaughter if they broke his neck when they tackled him, knelt on his neck and "subdued" him with force. If they killed him when they took him for a rough ride with intent to harm him then they should be looking at murder charges and the death penalty should be on the table.

I think the multiple settlements and lawsuits from people being injured or killed in "nickel rides" prior to this made it necessary. Gray isn't the first person killed by Baltimore cops due to a mysterious broken neck during transport. I do love the assertion by the union lawyer that the cops did nothing wrong while simultaneously refusing to release information about what happened. I get why you wouldn't want to talk of you're one of those cops, but don't try to say you didn't do anything wrong when you've already admitted that you didn't follow your own department policy. The line about policy being policy and practice being something different is another good one. What good are rules if you can't ignore them willfully? I guess if you're a cop the motto is with great power comes zero responsibility.

So a few of the known racist and far right wingers I follow on Twitter are saying Freddie Gray had spinal surgery a week before and this is the likely reason for his fatal injury. Its big on tcot circles right now.Has anyone even heard this.(Not that this instance is the reason this conversation needs to be had)
4/28/2015 9:18:33 PM
^^^Again, I'd quietly tell cops to stop beating on suspects.I wouldn't actually make a rule about making sure people buckle up. That's comically obvious (and offensive to anyone who is paying attention).[Edited on April 28, 2015 at 9:31 PM. Reason : ^LOL, your twitter sucks.]

^^It might be true...it doesn't really change anything.^I hear ya, but to me, purposefully injuring people in your vehicle is beating them. It's also a great way to explain injuries they may have sustained before (or after) they entered the vehicle.Roughing a guy up with a van is the tip of the iceberg, and telling cops to buckle up suspects is a fucking joke.

Most of you disgust me. You sit behind your computers, phones, tablets etc and spew absolute garbage. Most of you have lived sheltered lives and have no clue what the police actually do for you. Take a look around you. Go ahead. The very reason you're able to sit in your nice house or apartment and pass judgement behind your keyboard is because of the men and women who are willing to do violence on your behalf. Every day they confront the evil of society so you hopefully don't have to. If it weren't for them you would be in a world full of prey and 99 percent of your panzy asses would be someone's bitch. They are there to uphold the laws that make it easy for you to go grab a latte from Starbucks without being raped by a group of thugs. Do any of you actually believe that most people are inherently good? Haha keep dreaming. It's because of consiquence. And the police officers willing to face those wishing to do harm to your nice lifestyle of freedom. They get paid hardly anything and risk so much for a society that pays them little respect. Have any of you held a lifeless child with a mother screaming she isn't dead when you know she is gone? Have you comforted a grieving mother over the loss of her child due to senseless gang violence? Unless you're a police officer, the answer is no you haven't. Bash them if you want. Stereotype them all as bad people, uneducated and power hungry. But the truth are they are all that separates you from evil. They are out there in the middle of the night away from their families standing guard over yours. Are there bad cops? Yes. Should they be held accountable? Hell yes. Just as in any other profession where people's lives are stake, they should be held accountable. And so should you. You should be held accountable for your disdain against the 99.8 percent of good cops you stereotype. But guess what? You won't be. Because cops wake up, kiss their families goodbye and head out regardless of the ridicule. How about we look at what's really wrong. Accountability. Don't break the law, that includes the police. Everyone has a choice. Those wishing to attack police officers should realize what's at stake. Ultimately, their freedom or their lives. There are recent situations where officers have been totally wrong such as Charleston. But come on people, there were millions of officers that helped people that day but all you see are the negatives on the media. And then you idiots spread your hate on social media such as this forum and you influence others to stereotype and hate. Wow, it must suck for an officer to know he may die to save the life 9f some wolfwebber who hates his very being. Respect people. That's what they deserve. If not, go loot something. That seems to work. Idiots.

ITT, BridgetSPK spews a bunch of nonsense about stuff she knows absolutely nothing about. Hey Bridget, when was the last time you saw a General Orders or Policy and Procedure notebook from a law enforcement agency? Do you realize that they outline EVERYTHING to the smallest detail such as how long your fingernails should be, how your hair should be warn, etc? Do you realize that there are post orders for every post you work? Do you realize that there is a transport post order that outlines how an arrestee or an inmate should be transported and that buckling them in would be a part of that post order? Get some knowledge atleast before you go spewing junk you don't know. Thats why I can't talk with people on here. Most of you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I thank God every day that I am part of the minority in my views instead of the majority.

Hey guys, I just saw on Facebook that Freddie Gray had spinal surgery a week before his arrest. THAT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING. STOP RIOTING NOW.

^The media was more annoyed with them than they were people throwing bricks. Not once during the "Riot" did a news person say "Lets not show this on TV because its going to inspire others", but of course some nonviolent wheelies are terrible. BURNOUTS FOR JUSTICE, something I can get behind. You'd think the city would thank them, every second the protesters are watching tricks is a second were they aren't developing a riot mentality.

I didn't read all of that block of text but I have utmost respect for good policemen. Every time I've been pulled over I deserved it and treated the officer respectfully and was treated in kind. I'm also an affluent white kid from the suburbs who is not subject to the systemic biases that have been passed down generations. I also don't know what it's like to feel marginalized and oppressed to the point of despair and non-caring.
4/29/2015 8:13:10 AM
I agree I don't pre determine the level of respect I give anyway. I give them average respect until they earn more or less from me.Ironic that the cops don't like being stereotyped Or as the call it profiling

no one should give cops a pass because "there are just some bad ones" when it's cops themselves who protect those other officers and who stand in the way of accountability. when we the public have no other recourse, and when nothing is being done to stop the problem, civil disobedience is the only reasonable course of action. The only problem I see with the rioters (who are separate from the protesters who have been peacefully protesting for days) is that they destroyed the property of innocent members of the community who are also victims instead of only the property of those who oppress them.
