new deerhunter due out soon, supposedly around september. sounds like INXS according to bradford cox
6/23/2015 9:24:06 AM
so my friend recommended this record and then Pitchfork just covered it so I finally got around to checking it out:https://katiedey.bandcamp.com/strange little record. traces of shoegaze, atmospheric electronic, lo-fi. Regardless of the lack of easy classification, it's very enjoyable and available as a name-your-own-price via bandcamp.^looking forward to the new deerhunter as well[Edited on June 23, 2015 at 10:21 AM. on subsequent listens, the latest mwY has really grown on me. We'll see if it continues to do so.Listened to that Katie Dey several times last night and really dug it. Kind of worms its way into your head. Also checked out the latest Susanne Sundfør (Norwegian electronic pop) and enjoyed a lot of it. Definitely some throwaway songs and some songs that are too ambitious and try-hard for the style of music but overall several good songs too. "Fade Away" is a pretty fun little pop song.[Edited on June 24, 2015 at 2:19 PM. Reason : ]

7/2/2015 1:56:49 PM
she sounds like kim deal at the end
7/2/2015 2:48:16 PM
yeah i've listened to it several times between last night and today. I'm surprised the feedback has been really mixed from what i've seen online. I really like it.
7/3/2015 10:34:33 AM
tame impala - currents leaked this weekend. so damn good. such a summer jam.
7/5/2015 5:47:37 PM
I think I'm the only Ratatat fan on here, but their new album, Magnifique, is streaming on npr, and it's pretty excellent
7/11/2015 9:41:11 PM
new beach house, destroyer, and mac demarco albums are all out there already. one listen through the new beach house - definitely enjoying it!
7/12/2015 8:27:54 AM
looking forward to all of those (Beach House most of all) but I'll try and wait impatiently..Been jamming the song "On the Fence" by Milo Greene a lot this weekend. The album as a whole is fairly average, save a handful few tracks (mostly on the 1st half), and I'm not that into the band as a whole but that song is catchy and it seems they're doing their best Phil Collins - No Jacket Required impression which I can get down with for a fun summer song.New BTBAM is out as well but I haven't listened yet (first time I haven't checked out a new album of theirs on release day in almost 13 years?).The Velvet Teen record All is Illusory has been getting some spins this weekend as well. Some good songs on there. Main complaint may be that there seems to be a lack of cohesion on the record as a whole but I have enjoyed it.
7/12/2015 8:41:52 AM
^^^loving the new ratatat as well. has a very "classics" vibe to it.
7/12/2015 6:32:44 PM
I don't jump on leaks the way I used to, so idk if I'll get to the new beach house before it comes out, but I've heard it's kind of underwhelming and that "sparks" is the best song on it. Would ye who have heard it agree?
7/12/2015 10:20:15 PM
^it definitely doesn't showcase her voice as much as teen dream and bloom did...more in the vein of devotion in that regard, but i still really like it.
7/13/2015 5:26:16 PM
If anybody has a link to the new Beach House, please PM. That would be swell.
7/13/2015 5:54:07 PM
new Chvrches (http://chvrch.es/) song is fun as usual. Doesn't blow me away but I love her voice and it fits in quite well with their sound on The Bones..
7/16/2015 3:46:57 PM
The Chemical Brothers new album is

^Really liking it so far.
7/21/2015 11:27:51 PM
god i love this Hop Along album.
7/23/2015 9:02:21 AM
^yup. Will prob be in my top 10 for the year.new Tame Impala is a little uneven at times but I really like a lot of the songs. Funny enough I can actually get into this record more than his previous.
7/23/2015 10:53:17 AM
^ I appreciated their last album but didn't really love it. I can't stop listening to the new one. Tracks 3-7 are so strong and have been on repeat for me all week. The last two songs are pretty good too.
7/26/2015 12:45:41 AM
agreed that the middle stretch of this album is the strongest. I wish "Disciples" was developed a bit further - I love what is there but it feels so unfinished. His previous albums were objectively good but just not completely my thing personally so I didn't really get too into them. This one has really grown on me though and I've been listening to it most of the weekend.
7/26/2015 7:42:35 AM
been enjoying this new Everything Everything record today. quirky UK pop.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iadovkYn90s
7/26/2015 10:40:42 PM
new deafheaven finally officially announced. coming into this year it was definitely one of my top 3 most anticipated. it better not disappoint.
7/27/2015 6:01:15 PM
4x post incoming...Stoked to go see Kamasi Washington in Durham tonight. Still top 5 record of the year for me easily.
8/7/2015 1:54:54 PM
even though "Space Song" uses the exact same beat as "Walk In The Park", I love it so fucking muchBeeeeeeaaaaaaccccchhhhhh Hoooooooouuuuussssseeeee
8/12/2015 1:58:11 PM
the new deerhunter song is dope
8/17/2015 10:41:12 AM
i will definitely check out the new deerhunter song tonight.Latest digs:*Palehound full-length Dry Food has been spinning for me most of the day. female vocals on top of mac demarco or pavement-esque sounds?*Wild Ones (female fronted group out of Portland) EP is a very fun summer jam. RIYL phantogram, chromatics?*The World is a Beautiful Place... surprised me with a new album announcement and first single. Pretty enjoyable song. They are so hot and cold as a band but their last full length was a top 3 for 2013.*Finally gave the latest Between the Buried and Me real spins the last few weeks and it is actually very good. I would say it is the most enjoyable listen from them in probably at least 3 albums/8 years. Their set in Winston Friday night was top notch too, including the ballsy bohemian rhapsody encore.
8/17/2015 5:58:22 PM
Palehound played at our place a couple times. Really good stuff.
8/17/2015 7:12:08 PM
Nice. I can't stop listening to that album today.
8/17/2015 7:43:25 PM
http://pitchfork.com/news/60829-deafheaven-share-brought-to-the-water/ugh. I dig this song too much. Took a few listens but this is a great opener.
8/18/2015 1:55:07 PM
^it's not quite on the level of "dream house", but pretty good stuff. looking forward to the album.
8/18/2015 9:40:52 PM
Agreed. But dream house is one of my favorite metal openers ever so it's a lot to live up to. The more I listen the more I like it.
8/18/2015 10:25:14 PM
I know a few people were talking in the upcoming shows thread about Turnpike Troubadours... apparently their upcoming album is currently available for pre-order on Google Play for free http://slickdeals.net/f/8040701-the-turnpike-troubadours-by-turnpike-troubadours-free-googleplay-album-yet-to-be-released-on-9-18-15-free-preorder

this new deerhunter song is awesome. really really bummed they won't be at hopscotch. was looking forward to hearing the new material.
8/20/2015 10:47:46 PM
I have been enjoying Mick Jenkins - Wave[s] this morning. I'm not huge into hip-hop (tried so many times and a lot of it just doesn't do much for me), but there are certain artists that I do tend to enjoy more than others. For example, I enjoy this Mick Jenkins album, I loved Flying Lotus - Your Dead. There are parts of TPAB that I enjoy too. There are some songs by Thundercat I am into as well. The trend I'm noticing is that the hip hop artists I seem to enjoy have a noticeable jazz influence.Any other recommendations given these artists?
8/25/2015 9:44:21 AM
there's a lot of jazz influence and a few Thundercat produced songs on the latest Kendrick Lamar album that I'm sure you'd enjoythe entire album is kind of all over the place so I'd recommend giving those a shot
8/25/2015 10:33:14 AM
Ugh! I wanna hear the latest Aphex Twin!
8/25/2015 10:10:23 PM
It's on Spotify and such.
8/26/2015 12:47:56 AM
^^^ I need to go back and listen to it. I actually own it But there have been so many good records this year that I didn't listen to it enough. I'll go back and play the whole thing through. I do like Thundercat and I know Kamasi Washington was involved as well and he's been on fire lately.
8/26/2015 10:14:17 AM
finally getting to listen to Depression Cherry all the way through today Also plan to check out the new Tamaryn this weekend.
8/28/2015 11:04:56 AM
I'm gonna pissed if it's not on my doorstep when I get home[Edited on August 28, 2015 at 11:12 AM. Reason : expected it to get here yesterday, tbh]
8/28/2015 11:11:10 AM
over the past several years, I've transitioned to just all digital pretty much. positives and negatives to that, but it is at least convenient to always get the pre-release songs added to my library ahead of time and have new albums waiting for me in my cloud player on. The vinyl and packaging does look pretty cool for this though. All that being said, I really enjoyed my first listen today.
8/28/2015 1:10:40 PM
ha, they pre-released the entire album via streaming two weeks ago for people who pre-ordered and gimmicky or not, the pictures I've seen of the clear vinyl look gorgeous
