Unless Outback has changed dramatically since I've been in Africa, a 9 oz filet at one of the ones in NC does not cost no damn $23.99.I like how Applebee's became the standard for a chain restaurant almost instantly. I can't remember the last time I heard someone express a specific desire to eat there. The "time and place" to eat at Applebee's is only when it is extremely convenient for some reason.neodata686 has a pretty reasonable position, in that it takes convenience into account: he doesn't live near chain restaurants, he lives near good locally-owned places. And convenience matters. I love a good meal, a unique one that I'll remember and savor. All sane people do. But most people don't have the time or the money to make every single meal a life-altering experience. Sometimes you just have to put fuel in the tank, and after an exhausting eight hour day of hauling sacks of manure for minimum wage (my last job in the states), my first thought was rarely "You know what I should do, is spend a few hours harvesting herbs, going to the farmer's market that doesn't exist, and making a meal from scratch."So instead I went to Bojangles. And you know what? I like Bojangles. I savor it. When I land in America next month, my family is meeting me at the airport with Bojangles. It is possible to like food from a chain.

I'm a single guy with a salary in the top 4% of Americans and eat taco bell on a regular basis. I sometimes drive right by salsa fresh to get a burrito from taco bell.

South Asians love them some Taco Bell. I got a buddy, Indian guy, on his wedding day one of my groomsman duties was bringing a sack of bean burritos in for him and his brothers.

Yeah Applebees is probably the shittiest of all the restaurants of its ilk.
10/2/2014 9:30:18 AM
I can't remember the last time that I ate at an Applebees. I'm sure I have, but no recollection. Nothing in particular against chains, in a pinch, but I just can't eat there or Chili's or any of those type places.
10/2/2014 9:56:17 AM
what do you snobs have against applebees?
10/2/2014 10:01:37 AM
^^I ate there a year or so ago. A friend had a gift card to go there so we all went. And that was the first time I'd been in years. Shit's just not good. Same with Ruby Tuesdays...or at least last time I went there it was. Haven't been in a year or more. And I really don't consider myself all that picky or anything...even if it's not anything all the great, I can still find something on the menu and be somewhat satisfied with it. Not the case though.
10/2/2014 10:24:49 AM
I take all my okcupid dates to Applebee's

I guess it all depends on what a "foodie" is.I like food. I like growing foods. I like cooking foods. I like eating most foods. I like trying new things, I like going to new restaurants. I like most fancy foods. I like most basic foods. I don't mind spending $20-$30 for an occasional entree, if it's good. And I don't mind grabbing dinner from Snoopy's every few weeks.(but I do not like green eggs and ham)
10/2/2014 10:55:26 AM
foodie doesn't mean fine dining, foodies love small cheap local places if they serve good down to earth food. they especially love it if they can be the ones to discover it (and ignore that people have been going there for years or decades). it's been too long for me to remember the quality of snoopy's, but if they had the best hot dogs or something that would be an example.
10/2/2014 12:24:38 PM
foodies go to roast grill
10/2/2014 4:55:43 PM
Traveling for work all the time it's hard NOT to turn into a casual foodie. I get to eat where ever I want and never pay for it.

^The thing I miss most about not working near NCSU is that I have way less options on what to eat every day. I'm Krallum and I approved this message.

If you make 100k or over you're in the top 6% for individual income. Not that hard with an engineering degree.
10/2/2014 5:26:46 PM
he said 4%
10/2/2014 5:27:11 PM
Yeah I know. Wikipedia only went up to ~6%. Think 130k is the top 4%. I thought it would be a lot higher.
10/2/2014 5:30:39 PM
let's wait for Moron to weigh in on this until I decide if I'd like to pounce
10/2/2014 6:03:07 PM
she ain't messin with no broke da broke
10/2/2014 6:20:23 PM
of course a republican thought 4% would be a lot higher because they somehow think everyone can be rich. when you start to realize only 1% of people are rich you will stop appreciating the lack of income equality in this country.
10/2/2014 6:42:15 PM
Did you really just [try to] bring politics into this?Come on. Don't salt my game
10/2/2014 6:50:27 PM
I'm not a republican and I think there's a huge income inequality problem in the United States. Doesn't mean I don't like making money.
10/2/2014 6:51:16 PM
I just like taco bell ^^^ it's pretty ridiculous, the top ~2% is considered middle class by some tax policy.Without inheritances or being a business owner, you have to be the top 1% of earners to be able to live debt free.Even when i first entered the working world, i was still better off than most of the country, and I would have considered myself poor. I can't really fathom what life is like for the bottom 50% of Americans, it's hard for me to even internalize that 22% of children live in poverty in the US, and our politicians live WAAAAYYYY more posh a life than I can hope to.[Edited on October 2, 2014 at 7:11 PM.
