I <3 Robin Meade. They showed that video on Morning Express today and after the video was over she said that the woman had no business being in the left lane driving that slowly.

It's already a fine-able offense in most states. However, in GA it is now a misdemeanor offense. There is a difference. Also, NJ just doubled their fines for left lane blocking.

I think what has happened is that people basically do not give two shits about anyone else on the road whether they tailgate or block the left lane. It is a matter of consideration. Not saying that everyone on the road is a douche but they are out there and they make it suck for the rest of us who just try to go to work, store, home and get there alive so we can see our family and friends. So instead of trying to kill each other on the roads, how about everyone take a second to look at their families and friends and realize that you make kill someone or get yourself killed by your actions. I do realize, as has happened here before that I will probably just get trolled, but that is okay too because I have put in my two-sense worth. Enjoy and have a nice and safe weekend.

That video wasn't shot on a controlled access road; the douchebag in the Fords wrecks into a center turn lane. Treating the left lane like a passing lane on arterials and collectors is just asking for trouble.

People like the guy in that video irk me to no end on the highway. If you're in such a hurry to get past a car that's in front of you, you better not take the time to look over or show your ass when you do get by the car you feel inconvenienced you. There are some people that feel empowered by the 2 tons of steel at their disposal and turn into bullies. It's almost as if they've never given thought to what happens when they do cause a wreck and actually have to deal with the person they just showed their ass to or the lawsuit/manslaughter charges they could be facing.

Jesus fucking Christ, it's not a matter of personal preference or individual technique. Convention is established and necessary, and set not arbitrarily, but for practical reasons.

Fuck, it was t that long ago that many cars didn't even have passenger side mirrors.

If common sense isn't enough, anecdotally, the Germans at work all think that our lack of lane discipline makes out roads terrifying and infuriating.

I'm always sure to stay out of the left lane unless i'm actively passing.

But today I was on 540 passing a convoy of about 5 "wide load" trucks. Well, i got to the back of the front truck, and suddenly he increased his speed from around 70 to 80. I was going about 78, which is the top speed i'm willing to drive in my car on that road, and so then I couldn't pass him. Well about that time another car comes up behind me and starts tailgrabbing my ass, which made me feel like an ass for poking along in the left lane. I got over once the convoy re-passed me, but that took a minute or two because there wasn't enough room for me to slide over between the trucks. In all, it made me feel like an ass and I waved to the guy who was behind me, but I think he understood because he saw the trucks speed up.

a mile down the road they slowed down again and I re-passed them.

oh well.

^^yeah it's 70. I will sometimes go 10 over but never that fast... my car is old and I need new tires and I've had too many speeding tickets in my life... ever since i made my "no more than 10 over" rule I haven't gotten a ticket (past 6 years ticket free!)

I was coming up on some slow cars on 40 the other day

this one car is catching me, but not really fast

when I get into the left lane to pass, the car behind me speeds up to try and get around me on the right

he didn't make it, and looked at me like I did something wrong

I never took the cruise control off, thus dude is an asshole
(I am too, but still...)

It would be nice if more people used their cruise control on the interstate. I pretty much only take mine off to pass. Nothing is more annoying or dangerous than some guy poking along at 60mph in a 65 who proceeds to floor it when you go to pass him.

Yup, but it seems like most people don't. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the speeds at which people travel. Just pick a speed and stick with it, it isn't that difficult. I can't wait for radar controlled cruise control to be the norm and for self driving cars.

If you're on the highway, there isn't a ton of traffic, and it's not raining or really windy, i think the conditions permit driving a steady speed on cruise control.

pun intended? lol

When dealing with the above mentioned situations, i.e. some jackass starts to speed up because you want to pass, I must say it certainly helps to have a powerful car "fuck uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu..."

Ahh, I see dtownral is one of the assholes that speeds up when you try to pass them.

I don't zone out on cruise control, I become more aware of my surroundings because I am not checking my speedometer.

no, it decreases your attention level and makes you less ready to respond to a deer or any other surprise

Haha, I'm not checking my speedometer much when I'm not on cruise control either, haha.

But then again, I don't care all that much whether I get a ticket. Or rather, I care less than I care about driving how I see fit.

Yeah, that is awfully damned satisfying. Want to be a dick? No no, allow me to demonstrate "dick".

The Insight is no good for this. Most other cars I've owned had lots of power, though. The Z06 was the best...if you had room to run, you could just keep feeding in power to match the stupid fuck trying to prevent you from passing until you got tired of leading him/her on, at which point you could leave almost any car completely for dead at any point.

i disagree, i feel more aware when i'm not worrying about maintaining a steady speed. but i could understand that some less attentive people than myself may zone out while cruising.

i've never zoned out on cruise control. in fact, it makes me more attentive because i need to make sure my current speed is still appropriate.

This.

And no, I don't speed up when people try to pass me. I'm all for people going around me if they want to go faster.

Cruise control usually bothers me; nothing to do with attention span, but because I have a strong desire to be in control and aware of what my car is doing while in motion.

dude, shut up.

some people get drowsy anytime they're not moving. i have friends who can't watch a movie because they fall asleep in the first ten minutes. i could see that cruise control probably isn't for them. i'm not like that, at all.
