It was a very good year. Just not good enough. I can't help but think the O's came out so flat in the ALCS because they won the AL East too early and coasted the last week and a half. I've never been a huge fan of taking it easy after clinching, but then again, they don't pay me to be a coach, so...At least we don't have to deal with the "should they have played Davis" bullshit

you should help but think that because it's not what happened. you're also forgetting that they didn't come out flat in the ALDS, which was a whole series before the ALCS. despite doing well without wieters all year, this team desperately could've used his bat and his defense in the playoffs. same with machado, who was one of their hottest hitters when his knee exploded. davis wasn't hitting, but you're absolutely worse off without his bat because it means ryan flaherty plays every day, and he's not the same kind of home run threat as davis despite hitting a home run yesterday. the 2014 orioles were really good at hitting home runs, but their offense in general wasn't stellar. their bullpen was great, but the bullpen also failed them in games 1 and 2 of the CS. and their starters weren't that good in the DS or the CS. those guys were still putting in work up until the last weekend of the regular season, so running away with the division as an explanation for their performance is just kind of silly. i think the offense did about as well as you could expect, but it really doesn't help in situations like game 2 last saturday when they had bases loaded late in the game and adam jones strikes out on 3 straight pitches that weren't in the same universe as the strike zone

Nice of them to re-approve Davis for using Adderall for 2015. Fuckers.
