why do people always feel the need to talk about books in a tv/movie thread? can't there be a separate thread for book discussion? always seemed silly to me
7/2/2013 10:21:25 PM
I tried to set that precedent early in this thread, but TWW is full of a bunch of tuff kids who don't care to consider things like... well being considerate.
7/2/2013 10:26:40 PM
I mean, I dropped the show after the last ep, so I don't really care. Just came here to see what others thought & seemed like every other post was the book this & the book that. It's like if I wanted to know what happened in the book, I would've read it
7/2/2013 11:01:18 PM
7/2/2013 11:03:42 PM
Yes, did you not notice the warning and huge amount of white space that was included so people wouldn't see any of the absurdly vague comment?
7/3/2013 7:23:52 AM
2nd episode was a huge step back from the first episode. A couple things that bothered me: Barbie just seems to be walking laps around the city, the part where he was in the woods when the police spotted him was just stupid. Next, when the rogue police officer shoots at the dome it was pretty convenient that the bullet deflected off of the wall and delivered a mortal wound to his partner.I dunno, I'm on the fence with this show at this point. One thing I do like is the show is following an overall arc story, instead of introducing a problem and solving it within each weeks episode.
7/3/2013 7:58:33 AM
It seems like an interesting enough plot to keep watching, and a bad enough show to laugh atI will watch episode 3
7/3/2013 10:10:03 AM
At this point, the book and the show have almost nothing in common, it's like everyone talking about the book in the World War Z thread
7/3/2013 1:37:55 PM
Network shows are so hokey these days...I love how the guy in the bar says, "We are going to run out of air!"... Guess he forgot how plants do photosynthesis to make oxygen and all eukaryotes respirate enough to remove the CO2. Then, I thought the reverend was intentionally going to burn down the house... but then it appeared to be an accident...c'mon man you didn't realize that mess was going to catch on fire near the dangling curtains? The first half of the episode was good, but the 2nd half with the fire was just ridiculous.
7/3/2013 4:24:00 PM
I don't understand how he catches fire himself, sits in the corner away from where it starts and is just fine to be pulled out once it has spread...
7/3/2013 5:05:09 PM
7/3/2013 5:19:37 PM
7/3/2013 5:51:05 PM
Everything that came out of his mouth made me cringe.
7/3/2013 6:29:10 PM
Just watched the episode, agree with lots of posts here. Also, that was the quietest generator ever made to power the diner.
7/8/2013 1:52:41 AM
Was there a new episode on last night, or was it just a repeat of last week's episode? If they randomly aired a new episode on a random sunday night I'm not gonna be happy about missing it.
7/8/2013 1:20:02 PM
comes on tonight
7/8/2013 1:20:45 PM
i know tonight is its regular time, but there was an episode shown last night at 9pm. There were advertisements for it being "all new" during a commercial break for Big Brother (which was on from 8-9, however I didn't watch it till 10).
7/8/2013 1:33:42 PM
we noticed that too, we looked it up and it was just a re-run of last weeks episode
7/8/2013 1:35:14 PM
oh weird.
7/8/2013 1:43:20 PM
Thanks Dennis, that's a relief.
7/8/2013 1:58:44 PM
Junior looks kinda like Andy Samberg
7/8/2013 10:11:16 PM
Goddamn quiet generators in this town, and apparently it's ok to run them inside too.
7/8/2013 11:24:39 PM
I like how scenes shot in Southport on the waterfront are painstakingly shot to avoid showing the water. (Radio station scenes)[Edited on July 8, 2013 at 11:32 PM. Reason : i mean, they had to, just funny seeing beach vegetation in]
7/8/2013 11:31:47 PM
i could've sworn there was one scene where the ocean was clearly shown
7/9/2013 6:36:50 AM
Bad acting aside, it's an interesting concept (haven't read the book) and it's summer TV season... I'll continue to watch.
7/11/2013 6:06:02 PM
from what i remember of the book, this differs quite a bit. and what's with all the lesbian couple drama? i thought maine was one of those "tolerant" new england states with no bigotry or ignorance?
7/11/2013 6:21:45 PM
^they still have rednecks up north.I don't get the lesbian deal. I mean, I don't care if characters gay or not, but this one seems a bit forced, with awkward and bad acting. Maybe the plan is to somehow work this drama into the overall problem? If not, it is certainly something that was unnecessarily forced instead of just being worked into the series.
7/11/2013 6:36:08 PM
^^^^In the first episode they showed the radio tower/station and it was clearly around water
7/11/2013 7:02:10 PM
They mention part of the local lake is inside the dome.
7/11/2013 7:04:29 PM
Can someone just post how they get out?My money's on the shovel.[Edited on July 11, 2013 at 7:20 PM. Reason : if there's even one in the town, that is.]
7/11/2013 7:18:01 PM
why would a shovel work if subsurface concrete tunnels were also blocked by the dome?
7/11/2013 7:44:39 PM
obviously you just dig below those tunnels
7/11/2013 7:54:46 PM
Yeah orSPOILERSdig a new tunnel when the dome isn't looking.
7/11/2013 8:07:35 PM
Dig to china
7/11/2013 10:34:10 PM
They could dig literally anywhere if they introduced a shovel into the plot.[Edited on July 11, 2013 at 10:37 PM. Reason : or pile up all the dirt from digging and just climb out of the dome.]
7/11/2013 10:36:46 PM
the seizure thing is pretty lame and well, stupid. I guess I was thinking/hoping for a more sinister human plot (military, government, company, etc. technology test), but the seizures give it an ET type feel... for which I do not care for in most circumstances.
7/16/2013 8:46:13 AM
ET, you say?
7/16/2013 9:31:23 AM
I agree. If it is then ill be pissed wasting my time watching this show. What's the deal with the propane?
7/16/2013 3:35:40 PM
^^^dude, it's stephen king
7/16/2013 3:39:17 PM
Eh, that means nothing to me. I'm not much of a reader and pretty sure I've never read a SK book.
7/16/2013 5:06:36 PM
GUIDE-RECORDINGS-DELETE SERIES.
7/16/2013 7:20:42 PM
7/16/2013 8:44:32 PM
This is how the book ends
Everyone but like 5 people die. The meth factory explodes and suffocates everyone. The dome was caused by a bunch of alien children just being cruel (like kids burning ants) The news paper lady ends up pleading with one of the children via a telepathy machine that was causing the dome. I found the ending of the book terrible
7/16/2013 9:21:02 PM
That spoiler was pretty interesting for the first two sentences. Everything after that was Not really on-board with that kind of stuff. [Edited on July 16, 2013 at 9:26 PM. Reason : Especially considering the noticeable lack of shovels mentioned.]
7/16/2013 9:24:09 PM
In response to GrayFox
I thought the power struggle in the dome was very well written and liked reading it. However, the tv series doesn't appear to be written nearly as well, many of the key players are either gone or simply poor characters. In the Book, there were three councilmen and Big Jim was a lot more cruel.
7/16/2013 9:29:03 PM
I'll echo what grayfucks said.
7/16/2013 9:56:51 PM
parts of this show are filmed in Pender County not far from my house. i pass the "UTD" signs directing folks to the location all the time. never watched it, though.
7/16/2013 10:10:01 PM
this is deviating wildly from the book. I imagine that Big Jim will keep the abducted girl a secret to protect his son. (I also agree with bbehe's assessment of the book ending.)
7/16/2013 10:54:31 PM
lol at the daughter of the lesbian couple. They are trying so hard to make her hot and edgy. She's not attractive at all and way too forced.
7/17/2013 5:22:50 PM
Lol this show.I've never read Steven king, but surely this has to be one of his least successful books? Based on the roughnplot, and what you guys have said...
