Any chance you guys can get a separate thread for your league? It would be nice to keep this thread to advice, discussion, etc. about fantasy players.
8/13/2013 11:43:20 AM
good idea slackerb. You are turning into one of my favorite users bro
8/13/2013 11:44:20 AM
^^ Done.
8/13/2013 12:16:59 PM
Thanks Jaybee and Seinfeld. What do you guys think about Dez Bryant. He currently has an ADP of 16 according to ESPN, making him the #3 WR off the board.Sure, he absolutely exploded the last half of the season, but can you draft a guy in the second round with so many question marks?I personally thinking of trading for him in a keeper league, but wanted to see what the experts here thought.
8/13/2013 4:49:41 PM
I kept him in my league not only because he was a 6th rounder for me last season, but also the cowboys are expected to have a soft passing schedule this year. Definitely one of the top WR's this year if he stays healthy
8/13/2013 5:09:47 PM
^^If you trade Dez, it better be a doozy. I mean you better trade rape the hell out of the other guy. I'd hold on to him for sure.
8/13/2013 5:59:54 PM
*trading for himI like him about the same as Julio Jones, but behind Megatron and Green. Getting him in a keeper league could be great. what would you have to give up?I would like him a lot better if Tony Romo wasn't his qb.[Edited on August 13, 2013 at 6:53 PM. Reason : .]

Some site/tools I like:http://www.footballguys.comBeen using for years. Daily updates emailed to you, tons of articles, and the Draft Dominator kicks ass, best draft tool I have ever foundhttp://www.fantasyrundown.com/Football_Home.htmlcollection of news stories daily from around the internethttp://fantasyfootballcalculator.com/scenario.phplets you enter a draft spot and it gives you the % chance that a player will be available at that spot. Obviously there are a TON of variables involved specific to your league that it doesnt take into account but it gives you a starting point.http://www.draftologist.com/2013/07/21/get-ready-get-set-planalyze/awesome tool but takes a LOT of work and is really only applicable to long term leagues AND you need a record of who was drafted where to fill it in. I may use it this year though if I can figure out a way to determine who picked who whenhttp://app.pickemfirst.com/kicks ass
8/13/2013 9:31:28 PM
@AdamSchefter: Uh-oh. RT @MikeReiss: Little bit of a scare here at Patrios practice as Tom Brady stayed down after incomplete pass. Was holding left knee.
8/14/2013 3:39:49 PM
haven't done this in 5+ years, but a coworker started a league and is handling all the setup... he's taking feedback on the scoring, so i wanted to get tww's opinions... 4 pts for a td pass stood out to me, but again, i'm pretty rusty
8/14/2013 5:02:04 PM
my brother in law is in a league for the first time ever. he's a casual NFL fan at best. How would you begin giving advice to a first-timer into the world of fantasy football? Pretend you're talking to a childHow/whom to draft, team maintenance, research, etc...mainly the draft side of things, I doubt he'll do much maintenance
8/14/2013 6:39:38 PM
^If he doesn't follow football & won't keep up with his team during the season, then my suggestion would be to draft whoever cause it doesn't matter^^I hate both vanilla D/ST scoring & yard milestone bonuses. 4 pts per passing TD is pretty standard
8/14/2013 7:12:15 PM
yeah, standard defensive scoring is antiquated and makes defenses basically on par with kickers
8/14/2013 7:38:29 PM
Received a trade offer in my PPR league: Marshawn Lynch and Greg Jennings for Dez Bryant. my starting WR's: Demaryius Thomas, Dez Bryant, and Lance MooreRB's: Matt Forte, Chris Ivory, Giovani Bernard I'm kinda torn on this one.. I need a solid RB2 to couple with Forte and we know there's not as much RB depth as WR. But then again it's PPR and I love my receivers as is. I'm not too high on Jennings eitherwhat say you?
8/14/2013 9:40:28 PM
That's a tough call, but honestly, your RBs are pretty weak. Forte could have a big year but Bush takes his goal line duties. Ivory will probably get hurt, and Bernard might start, but probably will be just a third down back. I'd do it. Lynch is a beast and is very consistent in Fantasy. Top 5 RB if he stays healthy. Sure, you're losing Dez Bryant, but you already have a stud number 1 in Thomas. This year, stud RBs are a lot harder to find than receivers.
8/14/2013 9:56:02 PM
By the way http://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/draft/ is an awesome tool if you're trying to decide between a few different players. It groups all the "expert" opinions out there into one nice system. And also they have a draft simulator on that site that works great too
8/14/2013 10:01:31 PM
Thanks, I think I'll take him up on it. Ivory may have one of the softest schedules for a RB but then again it's Ivory, so I need some insurance
8/14/2013 10:16:33 PM
I missed the boat
8/14/2013 10:22:15 PM
^^^^^Maybe he has a better WR for a counter offer. I'm not too sold on Jennings this year. I'd rather have Patterson (of any Vikes receivers).[Edited on August 14, 2013 at 10:24 PM. Reason : ]
8/14/2013 10:24:08 PM
He also has Fitzgerald, Amendola, and Tate. I like Jennings somewhat better than Amendola this year in spite of Ponder
8/14/2013 10:37:51 PM
i would make that trade. especially if you like jennings more than amendola. i doubt he would give you lynch + fitzgerald.your RBs are much weaker than your WRs. Lynch would easily be the best back on your team. You have two solid #1 WR in thomas and bryant. replacing one with jennings to get lynch is worth it in my opinion.

What's the best approach to waiver rules/time period? We're doing waivers for the first time in our league so I'd like to get opinions on which settings you've had the best experience with. The only requirement I've got is that we want a short waiver period (1 day preferably). We're playing in a yahoo league.
8/16/2013 12:37:25 PM
bump
8/19/2013 10:18:21 AM
I think we have been using a two-day waiver period. We also lock free agents (it shows all free agents as on a two day waiver) on Sundays so people who are sitting around their computer all day cant get first choice of the top pickups based on injuries that occur on Sundays.

just responded to Joel, is this for your ass-backward-defense-first league?
8/19/2013 12:34:43 PM
It's for the logic based system where 1/2 of the game and 11 players aren't reduced to the same value or importance as a kicker that people are against just because its not what they are used to and are too lazy to logically examine it before bashing it league.
8/19/2013 12:58:11 PM
what round(s) do the defenses typically get drafted in?
8/19/2013 1:13:17 PM
varies on the strategy used by the owner... point is Defense is just not an afterthought. Some people choose to pick them early, some dont, but not EVERYONE picks them right before kickers like most leagues. This year, out of 14 owners, 12 of which are returning with 2 keepers each, 3 defenses were kept. I dont see anymore being picked in the first 3-4 rounds due most of the high end defenses being gone already.
8/19/2013 3:05:30 PM
you should just play FF where you draft entire defensive lineups and punters.[Edited on August 19, 2013 at 3:08 PM. Reason : apparently no one likes punters.]
8/19/2013 3:08:13 PM
There are IDP leagues out there, I'm in one. We play 2 DTs, 2 DEs, 1 LB, 2 CB, 1 S, and they score just as many points as offensive players. We could play 3 LB and 2 S but that would put way too many points on D in our league, LBs and Ss can put up quite a few points with all the tackles.
8/20/2013 8:22:41 AM
in preparation for our 14-team draft on Saturday, I did a mock draft this morning. if my team ended up anything like this I will shit myself. I had the 4th pick1. Jamaal Charles (KC - RB)2. Aaron Rodgers (GB - QB)3. Andre Johnson (Hou - WR)4. Darren McFadden (Oak - RB)5. Jordy Nelson (GB - WR)6. Seattle (Sea - DEF)7. Stevie Johnson (Buf - WR)8. Fred Davis (Was - TE)9. Andre Brown (NYG - RB)10. Malcom Floyd (SD - WR)11. Danny Woodhead (SD - RB)12. Brandon LaFell (Car - WR)13. Sebastian Janikowski (Oak - K)14. Isaiah Pead (StL - RB)15. Zach Sudfeld (NE - TE)
8/20/2013 10:57:02 AM
thats pretty damn strong, especially if its PPR. Wait, so you are doing two drafts this Saturday?
8/20/2013 11:02:24 AM
no, this was for your draft.
8/20/2013 11:04:15 AM
oh... players 1, 2 and 6 are kept already... but I guess you were just doing it to get a general idea
8/20/2013 11:17:16 AM
When is the Masters League gonna join the 20th century and become IDP? Realistic or die.
8/20/2013 11:18:09 AM
we tried it one year and it just didnt work, no one liked it.
8/20/2013 11:35:08 AM
Anyone feel like tossing out suggestions on Bell vs Bernard as a long term RB? Dynasty league & looking like I'll be choosing between those 2 in the draftWe have .5 PPR so I'm thinking that should give the edge to Bernard

trying to pick out which comments were AP's made my head hurt. I hate reddit's format
8/20/2013 3:24:08 PM
^^^I also like Bernard in a PPR. And while the Steelers have said they are gonna pound the ball and Bell is their guy, Dwyer has looked too good over the last couple years for me to think they're gonna lean on Bell too much. Granted Bernard isn't even a 1st down back, but he's a playmaker and I like him more in a PPR league.
8/20/2013 3:47:20 PM
^^Read reddit on alienblue for iphone, it's better in many ways I think
