LOL, a bill on house floor that prevents "teens" from getting STD tests and contraception without written parental permission is out there too [Edited on May 8, 2013 at 2:08 PM. Reason : X]
5/8/2013 2:07:57 PM
I think the bill was removed from the calander for today and rereffered to the judiciary committee. Maybe they are going to make some changes to the bill given the negative press.
5/8/2013 2:40:04 PM
Now they're proposing an "Anti-Leed" Bill. While I will be one of the first people to say LEED is 50% about making money, the other 50% does benefit the environment and consumers. Within the 50% that is about the money, there are jobs being created just to perpetuate the industry. The irony is that the legislature's concern is regarding the impact to jobs...http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/blog/going_green/2013/05/nc-housetentative-approval-anti-leed.html

Btw, what the hell does the bill do that keeps Tesla from being able to sell cars in NC? That news article was worthless
5/11/2013 9:46:19 AM
I think it limits the number of cars they're allowed to sell via the internet which would force them to open a dealership if they want to do any volume here.[Edited on May 11, 2013 at 12:59 PM. Reason : ]
5/11/2013 12:58:49 PM
^ I got that impression too, but yeah that article was useless. Tesla has been fighting these battles in a bunch of states. Turns out car dealerships have a lot of political pull[Edited on May 11, 2013 at 1:58 PM. Reason : Jfkdjd]
5/11/2013 1:57:45 PM
So much for "free market conservatives".
5/12/2013 8:27:23 AM
A lot of "free market conservatives" are like "anti-war liberals". Their principles only seem to come to the surface when the opposition party is in power.
5/12/2013 10:09:13 AM
Tesla sells cars directly to consumers, instead of through 3rd party dealerships. They've been very successful in recent times. NC dealerships don't like that kind of competition, so they're having their congressmen put a stop to it. It's really troubling to see the General Assembly approving such blatantly corrupt legislation. No one seems to give a damn.

5/14/2013 12:53:36 PM
^What is the point of the current laws if their implementation keeps getting pushed back. Sounds like maybe they need an overhaul anyway.I neither support nor am I against it, but it sounds like more investigation is needed to see which way they want to go with the bill.It it's been pushed back since 2009 because communities and developers don't want it, then why not come up with a bill that they'll agree to implement sooner? Otherwise they'll push it back even further. And I didn't realize Jordan was only 30 years old. I thought it was created in the '50's.

This is the one area that I find troubling to me, being a Republican. I am very much an environmentalist, and I wish we could find a happy medium. Shit, we're getting ready to have a baby and are doing cloth diapers for pete's sake.I believe in fracking if it can be done responsibly, I believe in alternative energy, just not pushing it down our throats when the tech isn't obviously there yet, and I believe we should wait and see what this bill entails before knocking it.That being said, it sounds like the sponsor is an asshole that is self interested. Most of your middle of the road repubs voted these folks in for change in a positive direction, and what this guy is doing, what quite a few in the GA are doing, is giving the party a bad name, and will lose the state horribly in 2016.
5/14/2013 7:32:20 PM

A cursory glance at the folks the GOP ran the last couple of times - 2010, 2012) and their backers (Art Pope, et al) was all that was necessary to see they were complete numbnuts and shouldn't be trusted running a McDonalds much less the state. To be shocked (SHOCKED!) at the outcome is just being willfully ignorant. Damn. That sounded harsh. Still, IMO, true though.[Edited on May 14, 2013 at 9:43 PM. Reason : .]

Hey another ridiculous bill being passed to repeal the gun registration law in Durham. The NRA is winning. http://www.wral.com/bill-would-repeal-local-durham-gun-registry/12444466/Oh wait, its being sponsored by Sen. Mike Woodard, D-Durham, so it must be a good thing, right?
5/15/2013 8:25:05 AM
sounds like a good bill to me.
5/15/2013 9:02:54 AM
yeah, i really agree. the registry should be digital and at the state level. it was a pain registering my gun in Durham.
5/15/2013 9:28:13 AM
no. there should be no registry.
5/15/2013 9:31:53 AM
okay, federal registry then
5/15/2013 9:33:41 AM
I don't think you read my post correctly.no registry = no registry.
5/15/2013 9:34:49 AM
okay fine, state registry then

Clearly he wants the gun registry to be handled by the UN.

Apparently the NC GOP is trying to pass a bill that will prevent local ordinances creating stricter smoking bans than current state law.....Currently state law does not prohibit smoking outside. While I thought it was kind of ridiculous that smokers have to practically stand in the middle of the street while on campus to comply with the 25 ft rule, this legislation would inhibit the ability of places like Wrightsville beach from banning smoking from areas besides designated smoking zones.Wrightsville Beach banned smoking on the beach because of the fucking tourists using the coastline as their personal ash tray. Good job GOP for taking another dump on the environment.http://charlotte.news14.com/content/local_news/694095/proposed-bill-would-overturn-wrightsville-beach-smoking-ban

Some of the bad ones are still in committee.
5/16/2013 9:43:50 PM
