The Tyrion/Sansa marriage has to happen before Joffrey's wedding feast (& death).

I was assuming it was some special lord's kiss prowess, myself

because Ros said it was "hard to describe"

I think the conversation between Shae and Tyrion an episode or two ago (where he refers to her as a great beauty and she fusses at him for it) was a way of setting up the Tyrion/Sansa wedding.

I, too, spotted the weirwood stump. Had to explain to the wife why she was praying there and not the sept.

I meant in the books, and all the (there are only a couple more, really) cunnilingus scenes are after Ygritte discovers it in book 3

unless you meant on the show, 'cause I'm sure they've thrown some of that on HBO of course

I just realized we haven't seen Tommen in forever. I wonder if they'll just bring him back in when the time comes and shove him on the throne?

It wouldn't take much. Just give him a stamp and have a bunch of kittens crawling all over the throne.

I thought of a question earlier that perhaps some of you folks may be able to answer... why does Cersei refer to herself and Cersei Lannister and not Cersei Baratheon?

because that's her character, she is full of herself and also thinks that women should get power on their own and not because of their husbands. also, she did not like robert.

was Catelyn ever officially referred to directly as Catelyn Stark? i feel like none of the major female players were ever referred to by their first and married name in the books. I could be completely wrong. The only one that I feel like I remember is Lysa Arryn, but she may still have been only referred to as Lysa, Lysa Tully, wife of Jon Arryn Lysa, etc.

ok i think i'm wrong. There were plenty of times Catelyn has been called "lady Stark".

I always thought she stuck with Lannister was because Cersei saw herself as the true heir to Tywin Lannister, a true lion through and through. That, and the fact that she hated her husband.

I kinda liked the foreshadowing they showed in the Blackwater episode, where she's sitting with him on the throne during the attack.

Yeah, the look on Cersei's face was priceless.

I'm really impressed with the scenes between Jaime and Brienne. Some serious character development going on there.

It's hard for me to tell if the show conveys what Martin wanted you to feel like the books did sometimes. But last episode my GF was all "against my better judgement I'm starting to like Jaime". Last night's bath scene furthered that of course.

That's exactly what I mean. The book does it wonderfully and Martin is a master at it. Having knowledge of that already I'm not a fair judge on whether or not the show is accomplishing the things it needs to. The GF is a nice barometer instead, and the show is doing wonderfully.

Reading the books is starting to take a little bit of fun out of the show for me.

Watched episode 5 last night and if I hadn't read the books, I would have (a) been surprised that Rob Stark chopped off Karstark's head, and (b) actually got excited when he started making plans to take Casterly Rock thinking that he might be able to turn things around.

Still a good show...but reading the books takes a bit of the "punch" out of it.

it gives me great pleasure inside seeing Robb discuss Casterly Rock and the Freys. and then talking with TV only fans and how excited they are to see Robb take on the Lannisters.

I don't think reading the books takes too much away from watching the show, aside from basically knowing the bigger parts of the plot

I'm actually intrigued by all of the editing decisions they've made on the show to simplify GRRM's overwrought mess of characters

I'll be more interested once we happen upon books 4 and 5, because I hope they're condensed a lot on the show

To the point it's irritating me. Hopefully they're just making the viewer attached to Gendry, instead of taking his story in some crazy main character direction. I guess it's a way of cutting out Edric Storm.

^^^for serious

but I called that Melisandre shit with Gendry though: we'll see what she ends up doing with him

weird that Jon climbed the wall

Littlefinger just left without Sansa? So... does that make her storyline wildly different now? Because her going to the Vale seemed important...

Now I'm also concerned that Talisa is in cahoots with Tywin... not that it really matters, provided Robb still gets betrayed

Jayne Westerling was a pointless book character anyhow, at least Talisa would be interesting

in the books Littlefinger set off for the Eyrie without Sansa as well, but was actually just "waiting" offshore for Joffery to bite it.

They're definitely doing some character combination/elimination, which honestly is a good idea for the show. There's really no reason to include a lot of the extended families that are only momentarily present or talked about in the book. Willas Tyrell doesn't really need to show up in the show, he's barely even in the book, why confuse the viewer. Same thing with Edric Storm.

The only character they've left out which I'm upset about is Strong Belwas. Hopefully Dany meets him between Yunkai and Astapor. The scene in the book where he kills Astapors champion and then shits on him was too good to leave out of the show.

I don't mind the change of replacing Edric Storm's role with Gendry, but unlike some other changes from the books, it wasn't handled elegantly at all. Watching it got the same feeling I did when Frodo went to Osgialith in The Two Towers, like "wtf is happening here". Also, it seems like they are combining the R'hollor worshipers and The Faceless Men, which doesn't make any goddamn sense.

^^There is no Strong Belwas, he was never cast. And it was Mereen's champion. If they even include that fight in the show, it will probably be Grey Worm who fights the champion.

The could skip that whole fight altogether. They'll also need to skip a lot of the sellswords that come over and the shavepates and others or you risk having a cast of 30 for a story line that only needs 3.

Very cool to see everything pieced together like that, but I don't know that I would really call her being a spy and "honeypot" a twist from the books. While she may not have had as much direct involvement in the books, I thought that the plot against Robb was obvious while reading so I see this as just another example of character(s) and their stories being simplified as they are translated from book to TV. Am I missing something here?

What makes you say that? They are both factions that use high valyrian? Not surprising, considering they both live on the same continent.

The faceless men have a lot of connection to R'hollor. They believe in the many-faced god, in the religion of the seven he is known as The Stranger; the worshippers of the lord of light recognize The Stranger as the darkness, and the anti-god to R'hollor (The Great Other, the god whose name cannot be spoken, etc). The worshippers of the many-faced god were slaves of the Valyrians who worshipped to him to bring them death and release from working in the mines under the volcano of Valyria. They are enemies, one is ice and one is fire.

were you just trying to inject some ambiguity in the tv thread in regard to Joffrey to deflect from a minor spoiler or do you not believe he was the one who tried to have Bran killed?

There was no confession, but ASOS pretty much paints the picture for you and it's fairly widely accepted that Joff was the one behind the assassination attempt.

why would joffrey do it? he knew about bran catching his mother and uncle having sex, or he knew that his uncle pushed him out of a window and wanted to cover it up? what motive would joffrey have?

i certainly don't remember that from ASOS
