Josh Beckett being the voice of reason in the Padres/Dodgers brawl made me laugh.

A double switch certainly isn't hard, but only one league has to even contemplate it. There's just no thinking in the AL. Throw your pitcher til he gets in trouble. Hit your 9 best hitters. Who even needs a bench unless somebody gets hurt

DH is for pussies, but interleague play makes it an inevitability in the NL.btw, DH means designated hitter, bdmazurAnd btw means by the way[Edited on April 12, 2013 at 12:36 PM. Reason : More off days means 2 or 3 or 4 off days in a row. Baseball teams play series, ya know.]
4/12/2013 12:35:11 PM
NL stands for National LeagueAs in the National League in MLB (Major League Baseball)
4/12/2013 12:44:25 PM
I just want them to have a universal set of rules, either DH or not. It's one of those things that is unique to baseball, and idiotic.

I mean we could also go down to like 16 teams.. That'd let you see the best pitchers and hitters
4/12/2013 6:28:06 PM
I'd rather see 16 teams per league like the NFL conferences.

^ That is a ridiculous catch. I assume that is Ben Revere? As for the DH argument, I like the current setup with the NL not having it and the AL having it. It allows each league to be a little different and prolongs some player's careers. Trying to take it out of the game completely will lead to a player strike, adding it in both leagues will lead to more traditionalists/fans to stop caring about baseball. With interleague, just continue with the current rules where NL teams use the DH in AL parks and vice versa.I personally like NL play though as it lead to more strategy throughout the game.
4/16/2013 10:07:44 AM
^I agree with all of that on the NL/AL argument. http://thechive.com/2013/04/15/go-ahead-heckle-tony-gwynn-jr-see-if-he-cares-video/

Except plenty of people are told "if you can hit they'll find a place to put you" and a some people are really damn bad at fielding (brad hawpe comes to mind, like a -3 dwar)And that tony Gwynn video is hilarious
4/16/2013 5:30:15 PM
Except that there have been players who are used 99% of the time as DH's always in the AL MVP discussion. In my mind, if you can't help your team defensively then you aren't that valuable.I also wouldn't give a pitcher any MVP votes because they only play in 1/5 of the games and rarely help at bat.
4/16/2013 5:39:30 PM
For what it's worth, a starting pitcher's batters faced is typically far higher than a batter's plate appearances, so you can argue that they have more effect than batters[Edited on April 16, 2013 at 5:44 PM. Reason : s]
4/16/2013 5:43:35 PM
Yeah I mean, a pitcher throws about 1/7 of the innings (if they're around 200) and a hitter hits 1/9 or 1/10 of ABs.. Nobody's really worth a shit in baseball

The reaction of the Astros player is awesome. He knows he should have made that catch and is like "fuck I suck".
4/24/2013 8:00:46 AM
I prefer the reaction of the woman in the front row, who goes from brave enough to try and barehand catch the homerun, to scared of the popcorn like its shrapnel
