yep, it's pretty sad that we ever let it get to this point

At the gun rally in Raleigh today, they spent a lot of time talking about needing to end same day registration during early voting. It just so happens that young voters (registering for the first time), college students (often moved for college), and people in general (less hassles equals more voters) use early voting same day registration. I noticed one of the first speakers was one of the amendment 1 advocates from last year. Funny how much this group is advocating for restricting others activities.

yes, republicans are hypocrites

It would be nice if people would stop trying to offer up other people's rights as sacrifices to the politicians in the hopes of keeping the ones they like. The politicians will eat them all in the long run, and this stupid tit for tat makes it easier for them, divide and conquer and all that. What the hell does a gun rally have to do with same day registration for voting? Other than perhaps pointing out that if more stringent restrictions on voter registration are a violation of rights, so too would more stringent gun laws be.

I dunno. Sometimes I think that if people didn't have ta right to the second amendment, that they'd actually fight for the other ones. There's a false sense of security people seem to have so long as they have the right to blast 30 rounds into a burglar.People have this "first they come for your guns, then they take your right to speech and other rights!" mentality. The reality is other way around, though.

I think it's more a matter of putting priorities on the things that actually affect you. The artificial political divide in this country means that in general the sort of person who is attending a gun rally in raleigh, they are unlikely to be affected by a voter ID / registration law, they already have an ID because they need one to get a gun, they're likely already registered because they've lived here a while. Similarly, the person attending the latest OWS rally in NYC is unlikely to be affected by a law banning 30 round magazines or common use rifles because either a) They live in NY where owning a gun is difficult at best, or b) Don't plan on ever owning a gun for some reason or another.Fighting a political fight is tiring, time consuming and it's very easy to get your (reasonable and original) message taken over by other (more radical and controversial) people as occurred to both the tea party and OWS. Therefore most people are going to spend the most time fighting the battle that is directly and immediately threatening them.

Legally, the criminal is liable for the damages. Not the good guy who shot him.

this is why CCH permit (and PPP) information should be confidential.I don't need some asshat putting a pushpin on my house in google maps, saying look here, guns!
2/17/2013 6:43:51 PM
Exactly, they should have to go through your wolfweb or facebook pictures to figure that out!
2/17/2013 6:52:33 PM
^^ I was completely ok with registration until that happened. I wonder if they understand how counterproductive that map was?
2/17/2013 10:26:36 PM
Oh look! A map telling criminals where to go if they want to steal guns.
2/18/2013 9:51:41 AM
^^^surely you see the error in that thought process compared to a map pinpointing exact addresses.[Edited on February 18, 2013 at 10:40 AM. Reason : .]

I like how the white neighborhoods in the map are more populated by gun permits than the black neighborhoods
2/18/2013 11:09:23 AM
yeah, i wish the federal taxes on guns were lower so that lower income folks could better afford to defend themselves

Theater posts sign saying "No guns allowed!"Response: "HAH. Clearly criminals will go here to avoid being shot back at!"Newspaper posts map saying "Guns are here!"Response: "HAH! Clearly criminals will go here to steal guns!"

they'd probably go during the day when cars are gone and the people are at work, probably.
2/19/2013 4:02:43 PM
That map does both.If they are looking for guns to sell, then they are more likely to break in during the day when people aren't home.If they are looking for easier scores, then they go to the homes not listed, because they are "safer" to steal from.
