3 fake dead girlfriends

Maybe I'm just being cynical, or whatever, but who gives a shit about it. Ok so what he might be an idiot, or he might have lied. Who the hell cares? Go make tackles and make your pay check and entertain me, I don't give a damn about your personal life.
1/24/2013 2:27:31 PM
Maybe because he traded on that story heavily. (or he let the media run with it, whatever).
1/24/2013 2:30:00 PM
Yeah, the only reason I was cheering for ND this season was his story, I thought it was absolutely incredible and if you heard him tell it it could bring you to tears. I am pretty sick of the story now because it is all speculation but I understand why it is being talked about so much.
1/24/2013 2:34:48 PM
Nope still don't care. He is an athlete; he isn't special. The media is stupid for portraying him as something other than what he is. Professional sports, and college for that matter, are to entertain the fans. The players entertain us by playing the sport. I don't give a damn about their personal lives. Go make tackles and I'll like you as a player. If you do something exceptional in your personal like I'll like you as a person, but otherwise entertain me. If he can play for your team, draft him; if not, don't. Maybe we should stop idolizing athletes and stop listening to the dumb ass media.

1/24/2013 2:41:44 PM
1/24/2013 2:44:07 PM
My point is I don't give a damn if he is a moron or a psycho. He is a soon to be professional athlete. He isn't anything more. If he goes out and makes tackles and entertains me on the football field, I don't care what he does. I don't give a shit about his personal life. And the media and all the people that hang on every single word they say are stupid.
1/24/2013 2:49:18 PM
^and that's fine if you don't give a damn. other feel differently though. a lot of the people who were were voting for the heisman feel differently. and some pro teams feel differently too. it says a lot about his character, which sometimes translates to performance.
1/24/2013 2:51:35 PM
Yes people who are not the public care. But what does the average fan care? They have no reason. They aren't making decisions on draft day, they didn't have a Heisman vote. And honestly what does character have a single thing to do with being the best player in college football? Maybe the Heisman voters should care less as well. Character is fine to look at if you are signing the check and drafting him. Otherwise this story is not news worthy. But the media pushes it so much and everyone is like well the media says its important, so let me pay attention.
1/24/2013 2:55:21 PM
cool man, that's your opinion. others thought he was a hero because of his feel good story and feel betrayed. I don't care that much.
1/24/2013 2:57:33 PM
i agree, everyone should only care about the news stories i care about
1/24/2013 2:58:26 PM
He's a hero? I do get everyone has their own opinion, and all that. But a hero? If a college athlete is a hero then there are a lot more problems in this country than I thought before. A hero is a firefighter who walks into a burning building to save someone, knowing they might not make it out. A hero is a police officer goes to work every day knowing they might not make it home to his family that night. Those people risk their lives every single day they go to work to protect others. Mantia Te'o is a normal college student who was either raised right to care about people and I respect him for it. Or he was underhanded and tried to get himself ahead in life, he played the game. Either way he is no hero.
1/24/2013 3:01:42 PM
I think you're in the wrong section. Soap Box is that way <-
1/24/2013 3:03:05 PM
Regardless, idolizing athletes is nonsense. And yes when I hear that hero word thrown around lightly I take it slightly personal. I've had family members who are those things and they have lost people in the line of duty and it means something to me. So sorry if I take it a little too strongly. But I see athletes as entertainment.
1/24/2013 3:06:21 PM
and some people would disagree with you thinking that all police officers and military folks are "heros". Different strokes, different folks, you know?
1/24/2013 3:11:33 PM
1/24/2013 3:15:40 PM
I do know what you're saying. But athletes are in the same category as movie/tv/music starts. They are all entertainment. And I don't think its rational to idolize someone because they are famous. I'm sure people don't like the police officers, the firefighters, the military personnel. But few out there would say some who gave their life saving another person, or gave their life protecting someone was not a hero.
1/24/2013 3:16:25 PM
Best case, he is gullible as shitWorst case, he has some deep mental issuesThe former will catch some flack in the locker room, the latter brings some big question marks into his characterEither way, all 32 NFL teams have put some question marks about the guy that they need answered before they draft him
1/24/2013 4:11:19 PM
lol, who shoved a stick up mdmurphys ass?if you want people to stop idolizing athletes, how about you lead by example and stop watching, discussing, paying money towards sports. The whole fact that you feel the need to go on your little rant shows that you do, in fact, care. get out

Sorry I forgot everyone can have an opinion but me. Maybe I should go somewhere that I'm allowed to have an opinion and voice it. Sports are ENTERTAINMENT. They have jobs because people pay money to see them do what they have talent to do. Just like any other entertainer. I have no problem with them doing their jobs and entertaining me. But quite frankly I don't give a damn about their personal lives. I don't idolize them because they are famous, they are people who have a job because people like me pay good money to watch them entertain us.
1/24/2013 4:52:30 PM
no, you're just acting like an idiot, asking why people care about sports and why a sports story regarding the (at the time) #1 team in the biggest college sport in the country is big news. That's like asking why people give a crap about Derek Jeter or Tom Brady.you don't give a damn about their personal lives? THEN CHANGE THE FREAKING CHANNEL. problem solved. And if and when enough people change the channel, then the news and sports stations will stop this fluff coverage about stuff you deem unimportant. Until then, those stations will assume others deem it important enough or interesting enough to watch, so the stations will keep showing it, cause it gets the viewers, and viewers get them advertising dollars.]
1/24/2013 4:56:29 PM
No its not about sports. It's about someone's personal life. I don't care about his personal life
1/24/2013 4:57:19 PM
THEN CHANGE THE F-ING CHANNEL AND SHUT UP ABOUT IT. you care so little about it that you devoted 10+ posts about it in a topic specifically devoted to the very thing you claim not to give a damn about.[Edited on January 24, 2013 at 4:58 PM. Reason : ]
1/24/2013 4:58:07 PM
I read about 3 stories about it and I'm done with it. I'm just saying on a message board my opinion about it. Isn't that what message boards are for, voicing your opinion? Maybe you should get less mad at me for not agreeing with you. I haven't attacked or spoke an ill word about anyone individually.[Edited on January 24, 2013 at 5:00 PM. Reason : ]

keep telling us how much you don't care. keep devoting more time talking about how you don't care.
1/24/2013 5:01:20 PM
No I'm not talking about the story. I have never said anything that goes into the story. I haven't addressed a single fact about what happened. I've just defended my stance on it. Show me where I think he was part of it or not, or that I agree or believe him.
1/24/2013 5:03:16 PM
HEY GUYS WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT SPORTS, STOP PAYING ATTENTION TO SPORTS WHILE I POST REPEATEDLY ABOUT SPORTS THAT I DONT CARE ABOUT BUT WILL KEEP POSTING ABOUThow about you go over to tech talk and demand to know why they care about apple products]
1/24/2013 5:45:11 PM
What part of his personal life effects sports. If he can tackle and play football I don't care what he does in his personal life. Where do I say I don't care about sports. Actually I'm saying I only care about sports.
1/24/2013 6:16:28 PM
if you watched the national championship game, you wouldn't think he could tackle
1/24/2013 6:18:05 PM
Yes, but not much, if any, of this thread is talking about how good he is. It's about his personal life.
1/24/2013 6:21:56 PM
well, it is a pretty weird storyand because its about a high profile athlete/celebrity, its garnering attention]
1/24/2013 6:22:52 PM
My point is, I personally don't care about it. If he goes and plays in the NFL, good. He will get paid to entertain people. I just don't get why it has so much attention. I'm not saying I agree/disagree with any of it. I just don't get it.
1/24/2013 6:26:48 PM
nearly 10% of your posts are about you saying that you don't care about this topic
1/24/2013 6:29:26 PM
you're spending an awful lot of time and attention trying to convince people you don't know that you don't care about something
1/24/2013 6:30:18 PM
Point? I said it and then I defended it. I said my opinion and said I don't understand where other people are coming from; and now I'm an idiot for it? Come on guys. Everyone has an opinion and that is mine. I'm not saying you can't have yours, I'm saying I don't see why.
1/24/2013 6:31:46 PM
dont worry mdmurphy919 in a month or so this will all be over. it's just in your face now. no one really gives a shit. I felt the same way you did after we heard about that Arkansas coach who fell out his bike and wrecked his face with his mistress. no one gives a shit about that old fart then either. story was just funny for all but 5 minutes. I dont even know what that dude is doing now.
1/24/2013 6:43:36 PM
He is coaching at McNeese State

1/25/2013 12:09:32 AM
at first i was sure that he was involved in some way, but now that i've seen and heard the interviews, i don't think so anymore.i just think he was really gullible, rolled with it, and lied to his parents and the media to save face about having never met his "girlfriend".
1/25/2013 12:26:08 AM
if i was a star football player at notre dame and an academic all american, i'd really hope i didn't get duped into hundreds of hours of phone calls with some dude faking their voice to sound like my girlfriend]
1/25/2013 12:32:05 AM
^yeah, in the soap-opera drama of it all now, i'm like "you were duped by some dude who would spend hours and hours on the phone with you every night, pretending to be a girl, and you bought it? how dumb or psycho are you? and how psycho is the guy who was pretending to be his girlfriend, if that's really what was happening?"
