He cannot continue to coach at Rutgers University. Therefore, Tim Pernetti and I have jointly decided to terminate Mike Rice’s employment at Rutgers."

with the public outcry on this, the coach was undoubtedly screwed. but the higher-ups could have saved their necks if they had handled this properly.

what's so hard about saying, "we looked in to it and doled out what we considered appropriate punishment. with the public response, we now realize that was not adequate punishment and corrected it in light of public opinion."

he should have been fired in the first place, but that would be much better than trying to play if off like they have. i expect at least the AD to get fired, too.
