Prince Fielder to RangersIan Kinsler to Tigers
11/20/2013 9:29:42 PM
Lot of money for Texas to take on for an aging hitter.Does Justinh still think STL got worse this year???
11/20/2013 9:51:09 PM
Both Fielder and Kinsler are past their prime. Deal only really makes sense money wise for the Tigers and for the Rangers, it opens a spot for Profar to play 2B since Andrus is signed until 2030 under that stupid contract the Rangers gave him.At least Fielder can become a full time DH now which is what he should have been 5 years ago. Fat fuck...
11/21/2013 8:58:54 AM
Great trade for the tigers. Top prospect Castellanos will now move back to 3rd (they had him playing in left) where he was a plus defender. Also gives the tigers room to sign Scherzer, Nathan, and then because of being able to keep scherzer, they can finally trade porcello for a LF or bullpen help.Dombrowski is a genius. Fielder is not a motivated player and is a bad clubhouse guy. Kinsler can still be an above average 2B for the next 4 years or so. Fielder could end up platooning in a couple years given how bad he had become vs LHP
11/21/2013 9:37:21 AM
You also have the bonus of moving Cabrera back to 1B where he is only a bad fielder as opposed to a horrendous liability at third base.
11/21/2013 1:23:03 PM
Great trade for Detroit IMO. Pretty questionable for Texas - maybe Prince turns it around, but they gave up a lot for him and still are taking on a TON of salary for whatever they feel like Prince can give them.

Fister to Nats for ???http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10070572/washington-nationals-acquire-doug-fister-trade-detroit-tigers
12/2/2013 8:32:45 PM
^ Good trade for the Nats. Clearly the Tigers are shedding payroll even though Dombroski says otherwise. Give up a legit #3 starter for pretty much nothing. GG Tigers. Make a good move dumping Fielder on the Rangers and follow it up with a stupid move getting rid of a quality starter.

Jacoby Ellsbury.. 7 years, $153M to the yanks. I guess some things never change
12/3/2013 9:02:28 PM
Holy hell. Boras/Ellsbury never made it a secret he'd be going to the highest bidder, but considering how much the Yankees need pitching and how much I thought they valued Cano, spending this much and losing a supplemental 1st round pick for signing Ellsbury isn't the route I thought they'd go.
12/3/2013 9:15:18 PM
$240 million over 10 year for Cano. Starting at 2B for NYY Opening Day? Kelly Johnson.
12/6/2013 11:11:42 AM
when will these ball clubs wise up and stop with these outrageously long contracts to guys that will be in their 40s by the end of the deal? I was so happy this morning when MLBTR reported that Ms management blew up at Cano/JayZ's demands. though I am sort of pleased to see an unusual team sign a star. Seattle isn't a contender for players like that, so it's good for them, but it will be 100% useless unless they get some other help beyond king felix.
12/6/2013 11:37:38 AM
and Granderson to the Mess it seems
12/6/2013 11:42:36 AM
I don't know much at all about Seattle's roster, but off the top of my head I don't know anyone there other than Cano/Felix/Iwakuma and maybe Raul Ibanez. Its a big signing for them, but they need a lot of other pieces to really make this signing worth something other than getting their name in the news.
12/6/2013 12:08:15 PM
dammmmmnn full ntc for cano as well
12/6/2013 12:17:54 PM
I think this was a bad move for Cano. I don't think the Mariners will ever be as competitively as the Yankees and if he wants to market himself further with merchandizing and endorsements going from NYC to ...just about anywhere is a horrible move.As a Yankees fan I'm glad they didn't sign him to some stupid contract, though at the same time I'm not sure why they did the same for Ellsbury.
12/6/2013 1:21:38 PM
Seattle isn't exactly a small market team. They have money to spend. Cano is just their 1st signing. Don't be surprised if they don't pull in another 1-2 big FAs, seeing as they are connected to every FA. They have the fan base to do it also. You know the "if you build it, they will come..." mentality. Within 10 years ago they were a top 5 attendance franchise and if you follow football, you know they can get loud. Safeco is across the street from Century Link.I say good move. Spend some to get some. It works.

Homers ITTWhere is Jaybee
12/6/2013 1:59:50 PM
the Ms need a whole lot more help than you think they'll be getting
12/6/2013 2:59:50 PM
Horrible deal for Seattle. Cano is 31 I think so he'll be 41 at the end of this deal. So essentially the Ms will get 2-4 yrs of elite 2B hitting followed up by a slow decline and likely overpaid DH for the last 4-5 years. No as bad as the Pujols deal, but close. The AL West is the place to go for long term bloated contracts it seems. As for the Yanks and Ellsbury, it's a ridiculous deal too, but if Ellsbury stays healthy the Yanks should at least get an elite player for 4 or 5 years. Plus they took him from their main rival which makes the signing even more valuable.[Edited on December 6, 2013 at 3:47 PM. Reason : o]

I have no sympathy for baseball teams. They just refuse to learn from previous mistakes. The money isn't nearly as bad a decision as the length of the contract. Congratulations, Mariners, you just made yourself irrelevant from 2017-2024.
12/6/2013 5:37:46 PM
agreed^... $24M for him isn't all that bad. one could argue that it's a decent deal for the Ms based on AAV. but 10 years??? yeeshBeltran to NYY, who are looking much more like the Steinbrenner Yankees that I love to hate so much
