This is pretty bad. Whoever does Chick-Fil-A's PR probably won't have a job in the near future.

I just got this press release

Quote :
"Chick-fil-A target of homosexual activists
Gov. Mike Huckabee urges people who support natural marriage to eat at a Chick-fil-A on August 1.
Because Chick-fil-A supports natural marriage, homosexual activists and their supporters in the liberal media want to do Chick-fil-A harm. Here is what Gov. Mike Huckabee said about the stand supporting natural marriage Chick-fil-A has taken.
“I have been incensed at the vitriolic assaults on the Chick Fil-A company because the CEO, Dan Cathy, made comments recently in which he affirmed his view that the Biblical view of marriage should be upheld.
“The Cathy family, led by Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy, are a wonderful Christian family who are committed to operating the company with Biblical principles and whose story is the true American success story. Starting at age 46 Truett Cathy built Chick-fil-A into a $4 billion a year enterprise with over 1600 stores. At 91, he is still active in the company, but his son Dan runs it day to day as CEO. It's a great American story that is being smeared by vicious hate speech and intolerant bigotry from the left.”
Please join me in showing our appreciation to Chick-fil-A by eating at one of their restaurants on August 1. Also, bring along a friend. Let’s make this the largest one day sales in Chick-fil-A history.
Announce it in church. Urge your Sunday School class to participate. Don’t carry signs or have speeches. Just go and eat a good meal.
Mark the day: August 1. All day long!
Let us do what Governor Huckabee is urging. “Too often, those on the left make corporate statements to show support for same sex marriage, abortion, or profanity, but if Christians affirm traditional values, we're considered homophobic, fundamentalists, hate-mongers, and intolerant. This effort is not being launched by the Chick-fil-A company and no one from the company or family is involved in proposing or promoting it.”
Please forward this e-mail to your pastor and family and friends.

I read the interview with Dan Cathy and am curious as to when God defined marriage.

Seriously, did he? I'm not reading the whole book to find out.

I always thought if you didn't like chick fil a you were gay. It turned out to be true!

Seriously, when this topic comes up 1000x a day in conversation, I always say "I love their food too much to turn gay". It confuses everyone and I win becuse it ends the stupidest debate ever.

The mayor of Boston doesnt have the power to stop chick-fil-a from opening in the city.

The president of Chick-fil-A opposes gay marriage. While this view goes against the grain in a state that made history by embracing it, it’s no reason for Mayor Thomas M. Menino to oppose a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Boston.

The fast food chicken sandwich chain was reportedly looking at property near Faneuil Hall at the location where the Purple Shamrock currently operates. Then company president Dan Cathy stirred national controversy when he said in an interview that “we’re inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.” In response, Menino told the Boston Herald, “Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have a business in the City of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion.”

But which part of the First Amendment does Menino not understand? A business owner’s political or religious beliefs should not be a test for the worthiness of his or her application for a business license.

Chick-fil-A must follow all state and city laws. If the restaurant chain denied service to gay patrons or refused to hire gay employees, Menino’s outrage would be fitting. And the company should be held to its statement that it strives to “treat every person with honor, dignity and respect — regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation, or gender.” But beyond the fact that Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays, the religious beliefs of the company’s top executive don’t appear to control its operations.

Discuss: Do you agree with Mayor Menino?
Menino’s letter to Chick-fil-A

The situation was different when Northeastern University blocked a proposed Chick-fil-A amid student protests. In that case, a private institution made its own decision not to bring the company in as a vendor. But using the power of government to freeze the company out of a city sends a disturbing message to all businesses. If the mayor of a conservative town tried to keep out gay-friendly Starbucks or Apple, it would be an outrage.

Ironically, Menino is citing the specific location along the Freedom Trail as a reason to block Chick-fil-A. A city in which business owners must pass a political litmus test is the antithesis of what the Freedom Trail represents. History will render judgment on the views of Chick-fil-A executives. City Hall doesn’t have to.

"Perception of a company as gay-friendly is said to be largely based on advertising, but also the influence of friends and the media. Apple's rating may in fact be influenced by its corporate policies, which made the company one of the first to extend employee benefits to gay and lesbian couples.

The Bravo Network took first place in the survey, likely as a result of shows with openly gay participants, such as Project Runway, Workout and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Other high-performing brands include Showtime, HBO, Absolut and Levi's.

Towards the bottom of the list, companies such as Samsung, Wal-Mart, Dunkin Donuts and Cracker Barrel had very little support from the survey group, in some cases receiving only a 3 percent "strong" rating from gay and lesbian participants. Cracker Barrel has long had a bad reputation in the LGBT community, since only in 2002 did it rescind a policy of discriminating against gay employees.

lol, cracker barrel.

its also worth nothing that starbucks execs have repeatedly bragged about their diverse workforce and love for the gays after being sued more than once for gay harassment.

one of these lawsuits was in seattle, imagine that.

I think Mayor Menino is well aware of Chick-fil-A's legal right to open a restaurant in Boston as long as they meet all the proper regulations and zoning codes. Nowhere in the letter does he say that he will stop them from opening. The only action statement in the letter is "I urge you to back out of your plans to locate in Boston." He isn't out of line at all.

If the Chick-fil-a at my work didn't have a ridiculously limited menu I might actually eat there. But they only serve like two sandwiches, nuggets, and fries with none of the other usual side/salad options. It's kind of weird.

If the world were up to me I'd have more of this, and here's why: (I'm not siding with anyone)

A company decided to take a stand on it's values, regardless of what the popular opinion was, and now people are going to decide weather or not to give them their business. If that opinion is really all that unpopular, then they'll lose their customers and may go out of business. If it's not, they won't.

If people thought about more companies this way and honestly made more conscious decisions with their money then things like green energy/green products, labor rights, and even race/gender wage issues wouldn't have to be regulated. They'd be controled by the market.

The choice is to spend your money or not. Your money says way more than your rainbow sign.
